Matt Healing

Head Coach

Healing enters his second season as Head Mens Basketball Coach for Pace after being appointed to the position in March of 2015. Previously, Healing spent two years as Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator for the Setters. In his first season at the helm, Healing nearly doubled the teams overall win total from the previous year while increasing the number of Northeast 10 conference victories by five. Healings first recruiting class as head coach proved to be a good one as Freshman Ryan Peterson earned a spot on the NE-10 All-Rookie Team. Playing a rotation of mostly younger players, the Setters gained experience that should help the team improve greatly moving forward. In addition to the on-court improvement, the Setters thrived in the classroom finishing the 2015-16 year with a 3.3 team GPA. This outstanding academic success earned the program the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Academic Team Excellence Award. Prior to Pace, Healing served as the Director of Men's Basketball Operations at Division I New Jersey Institute of Technology. At NJIT, working under highly acclaimed Head Coach Jim Engles (now head coach at Columbia University), Healing was responsible for recruiting, player development, academic oversight, team travel, film exchange and organizing alumni events. Healing also helped lead NJIT to the program's first-ever Great West Conference Championship. Healing coached NJITs all-time leading scorer, Great West Conference Player of the Year and Honorable Mention All-American, Chris Flores, who now plays professionally with Uni-Riesen Leipzig of the German Basketball League. In total, three players that were coached by Healing were selected to the Great West All-Conference Team. Before NJIT, Healing served as Assistant Men's Basketball Coach at Vassar College for two seasons. He was responsible for recruiting, scouting, game preparation, film exchange, and individual skill instruction. In Healings two years at Vassar, he helped the program triple its win total and coached three Liberty League All-Conference players. Healing also served as both Assistant Mens Basketball Coach and Assistant Sports Information Director at Centenary College in New Jersey. At Centenary, he again coached the programs all-time leading scorer and was the Co-Director of the Centenary College Summer Basketball Camp. Healing began his coaching career in 2007 at Randolph High School in New Jersey, where he spent two seasons as Assistant Boys Basketball Coach. In addition to his coaching resume Healing has exceled working the basketball camp circuit. He has worked various camps for the Hoop Group and Hoop Mountain. Healing also helped run the NABC Boys Basketball Clinic in New Orleans (2012) and Houston (2016) during the NCAA Mens Basketball Final Four. Healing graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communication from Monmouth University in 2004. He is a member of the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) and is currently residing in Fair Lawn, NJ with his wife, Daniela and their son Nicholas.
