Mark Caserta
Head Coach
Caserta completed his third season as head coach of the Penn State Brandywine softball team in 2016. The only head coach during Brandywine softballs three-year history, Caserta led the Lions to back-to-back PSUAC championships in 2015 and 2016, while compiling a record of 62-47. Against conference competition, Caserta owns a 46-11 mark, including a 35-1 record over the last two years. Brandywine competed at the 2015 and 2016 USCAA Softball World Series after claiming the PSUACs automatic bid to the tournament. The Lions placed ninth during their first appearance and then won three games en route to a fourth-place showing in 2016. Under Casertas direction, eight Brandywine student-athletes have earned USCAA All-American honors and 12 have been selected to PSUAC All-Conference teams. Additionally, he has guided two PSUAC Newcomers of the Year and a pair of PSUAC Pitchers of the Year. Casertas teams have also done exceptionally well in the classroom with 25 student-athletes earning PSUAC All-Academic honors and five claiming USCAA National Academic Team accolades during the past three seasons. Ten of the 13 members of the 2016 squad earned PSUAC All-Academic status. Prior to Brandywine, Caserta served as a head coach for seven seasons in the Philadelphia Catholic League, most recently at Archbishop Carroll High School in Radnor, Pa., where he was the head coach for five seasons (2008-12). He led the Lady Patriots to the playoffs four times while at the helm. In 2011, his team made it to the Catholic League semifinals, falling one run short of the championship game. He finished his career at Carroll as the programs all-time winningest coach (66-37). Prior to arriving at Carroll, Caserta was the head coach at Bishop McDevitt in Glenside, Pa., for three seasons (2005-07). During his first season, Caserta led the team to nine victories after the squad had won just two the season prior to his arrival. He was also the assistant varsity girls basketball coach for two seasons while at Bishop McDevitt. Additionally, Caserta was selected as the head coach for the Philadelphia Catholic League in the Softball Carpenter Cup for four seasons. Caserta also was an assistant coach for the Philadelphia Spirit, a 16 & Under softball travel team in 2004 and coached baseball for seven years in the 1990s at the Elmwood Park Boys and Girls Club. He led the boys baseball travel teams to district playoffs and league championships four times. Additionally, he served the assistant varsity baseball coach at West Catholic High School in Philadelphia in 2002. Caserta is a graduate of West Catholic High School where he played baseball, football and basketball. He was named All-Catholic League in baseball during both his junior and senior seasons as a catcher and third baseman. Also a veteran official, Caserta is a nine-year veteran of the U.S. Navy. Caserta has four children, Elizabeth, Malarie, Mark and Matthew, and resides in Philadelphia with his wife, Michelle.
