Over his tenure, Williams has steadily elevated the program’s profile and success. The 2025 season marked the Lions’ fourth consecutive winning campaign, highlighted by a third straight appearance in the CCS Tournament Final. Under Williams’ guidance, the team saw three players earn All-Conference honors while four received CSC Academic All-District recognition, demonstrating the program’s commitment to excellence both on the court and in the classroom. In 2024, Williams led the Lions to new heights, setting a program record with 19 wins in a season. The team secured an undefeated CCS regular season and claimed the regular season championship, highlighted by a thrilling home victory over Covenant. That year, Charles Parnell earned CCS Rookie of the Year honors, and six players were named All-Conference leading to Williams being named CCS Coach of the Year for the second straight season. The 2023 squad also posted a strong 15-6 record, losing only once in conference play. Piedmont advanced to the inaugural CCS Tournament Final, with Williams earning CCS Coach of the Year honors as voted by the league’s coaches. Four athletes earned All-CCS recognition, while three players were named CSC Academic All-District. Williams’ first season at Piedmont saw the team achieve a program-record 16 wins, including a significant non-conference victory over Berry, the program’s first over the Vikings since 2016. The Lions dominated conference play, losing just once. On an individual level, Williams guided a program-record five players to All-USA South honors, while Alberto Nunez and Ryan Raugh collectively earned five USA South Rookie of the Week awards. Prior to Piedmont, Williams gained coaching experience across the North Georgia region. He began his career at Southern Wesleyan University as Assistant Men’s and Women’s Tennis Coach, where he helped lead the men’s team to the 2014 Southern States Athletic Conference Tournament during the program’s inaugural league season. Williams then returned to Georgia, serving as a graduate manager and volunteer assistant for the University of Georgia women’s tennis program, eventually becoming the interim assistant coach and program specialist from 2016-2018. In this role, he managed video analysis, tennis analytics, budgeting, scheduling, and recruiting coordination. He spent the 2018-19 season as Assistant Women’s Tennis Coach at the University of Delaware, contributing to recruiting the highest-ranked prospect in school history and working with an ITA Ann Lebedeff Leadership Award Finalist. Williams then served as Assistant Men’s Tennis Coach at Georgia State for the 2019-20 season before joining Piedmont. Williams also has extensive experience coaching at notable tennis camps, including the Jeff Wallace Bulldog Tennis Camp and Manny Diaz Bulldog Tennis Camp at UGA, the Nancy Harris Tiger Tennis Camp at Clemson, and the UCLA Billy Martin Tennis Camp. In addition to his coaching, Williams has been involved in international tennis development efforts. He volunteered with Mercer on Mission in Mozambique and partnered with the Oyebog Tennis Academy in Cameroon to collect tennis equipment and support youth development. A 2012 graduate of Mercer University with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, Williams earned a Master’s degree in Kinesiology from the University of Georgia in 2016. The 2024-2025 season continued Martin’s remarkable run of success at the helm of the women’s tennis program. The Lions delivered a dominant 21-3 overall record and extended their streak to seven consecutive undefeated regular seasons in conference play. Piedmont has now won 42 straight regular season conference matches under Martin. He was once again recognized by his peers, earning his third straight CCS Coach of the Year honor, while coaching four All-Conference players and four CSC Academic All-District selections. The team also made its third consecutive appearance in the CCS Tournament Final. In 2024, Martin surpassed the 100-win mark for his career and led the program to its second 20+ win season in three years. The Lions delivered another undefeated regular season in conference play and won both the CCS Regular Season and Tournament Championships. Abbey Grace Venham repeated as the league’s top player, and Martin earned CCS Coach of the Year honors for the second consecutive season. The 2022-23 season saw the Lady Lions dominate in the newly formed Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS), finishing a perfect 7-0 in the regular season and winning the inaugural conference tournament. Martin earned his first CCS Coach of the Year award, and Venham won the first of her two straight CCS Player of the Year awards. Martin's program reached new heights in 2022, breaking the program record for wins with 25 and claiming the USA South Tournament Title for the first time in school history. That championship earned Piedmont its first NCAA Tournament berth, where it picked up its first NCAA Regional win over Transylvania. Eight players earned All-Conference recognition, and Melissa Gish became the program’s first CoSIDA Academic All-District selection under Martin. In 2021, Martin was named USA South Coach of the Year as the Lady Lions cruised to a 7-0 conference record and a West Division title. He helped guide Imani Vincent to USA South Player of the Year honors—the first in program history—while coaching five All-Conference performers and leading Piedmont to a No. 12 Atlantic South ITA ranking. Martin made an immediate impact in his first season as head coach in 2019, guiding the team to a then program-record 19 wins and the USA South West Division title. That season also saw school records fall in both singles and doubles play. During the shortened 2020 season, the Lady Lions jumped out to an 11-2 start. That year, Morgan Buchholz set Piedmont records for career combined wins (78) and singles wins (41), while Caroline Connelly tied the program record for doubles wins (39). Before his promotion, Martin served three seasons as a graduate assistant and assistant coach. During that time, both the men’s and women’s programs claimed USA South West Division titles (men in 2017, women in 2018), and the programs combined for 60 wins. His recruiting efforts helped bring in nine freshmen in 2018, including USA South Rookie of the Year Caroline Connelly. Martin’s own career on the court at Piedmont was highly successful. He compiled a 44-21 singles record, including a perfect 5-0 as a freshman. He earned All-Conference honors in 2014 and helped lead the Lions to multiple postseason victories, including an undefeated 8-0 GSAC regular season his freshman year. Martin graduated from Piedmont College in 2015 with a triple major in History, Political Science, and Secondary Education with a concentration in History. He earned his master's in Secondary Education, also from Piedmont, in 2017. Josh Kles joined Piedmont University as an Assistant Track & Field Coach in the fall of 2025, bringing more than eight years of collegiate coaching experience and a proven record of developing high-level throwers. Before arriving at Piedmont, Kles served on the staff at Lindsey Wilson College, where he coached an All-American, four national qualifiers, and numerous athletes who achieved personal bests and national rankings. During his tenure at Lindsey Wilson, Kles designed and implemented strength and conditioning programs for throwers and multiple event groups, specializing in Olympic lifting, plyometrics, speed development, mobility training and injury-prevention strategies. He also oversaw performance tracking and athlete load management, creating individualized plans to maximize development throughout the season. A s a student athlete, Kles was a school record holder at Lindsey Wilson in the shot put, discus and hammer throw. He was also a two-time NAIA Indoor and two-time NAIA Outdoor national qualifier in the shot put (2013 and 2015). Kles is currently completing his Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) certification and is CPR/AED certified. He holds a bachelor of arts in business administration with a management emphasis and a minor in communication from Lindsey Wilson. Updated 12/25
