John Shimer
Head Coach
Shimer joined Pine Manor in January 2014 as Head Womens Soccer coach and the inaugural Head Coach of the Mens Soccer Program. The fourth-year head coach recently led the men's soccer team to their second-consecutive American Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) conference tournament championship during the 2017 season as the Gators finished with their best record in program history, 12-5-1. Pine Manor College enjoyed several ACAA postseason awards including the Player of the Year in Jose Corrales, the Freshman and Co-Defensive Player of the Year in Noah Nixon, and six First-Team All-ACAA players with Corrales, Nixon, Akheem Thompson, Cesar Garcia, Diego Herrera, and Jahvar Gayle. Nixon was named the ACAA tournament MVP and was joined by Corrales, Herrera, and Raudel Gomez on the All-Tournament Team. And Shimer was voted by his peers as the 2017 ACAA Coach of the Year. Shimer joined Pine Manor after spending the 2013 season as the First Assistant Mens Soccer Coach at Endicott College. At Endicott, Shimer helped design and implemented practice plans for the Mens Soccer program while also serving as the Goalkeepers Coach and recruiting coordinator where he helped land several top recruits from around the country for the Gulls. In addition, Shimer is a staff coach for the Aztecs on the North Shore of Boston, while also serving as a staff coach for Olympic Development Program (ODP) of Massachusetts Youth Soccer. Prior to Endicott, Shimer served as an assistant at his alma mater, Ohio Wesleyan University (OWU), during the 2012 season. Under the tutelage of Head Mens Soccer Coach Jay Martin, the all-time winningest coach in college mens soccer history, Shimer was a part of the 2013 Battling Bishops team that won the Fred Myers Adidas Invitational tournament championship, North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) regular season championship, and had a second place finish in the NCAC championship tournament before earning a berth in the NCAA DIII Championship tournament. During the 2012 season, OWU finished second in goals scored and gave up the second fewest goals in the NCAC. An avid fan of the game, Shimer also served as WEEI.coms primary analyst during the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Prior to that, Shimer worked as Assistant Sports Editor at the Newburyport Daily News, covering professional soccer in New England as well as the Boston Red Sox and Boston Celtics. Shimer holds a Director of Coaching Diploma, a Premier Diploma, a Advanced National Diploma and a Goalkeeping Diploma from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). He currently resides in Reading, Mass with his wife Juliana and their dog Jerry.
