Head Coach
Amanda Davied enters her eighth year as head women’s basketball coach at Pittsburg State University in 2025-26 after being hired to the position on May 21, 2018. She has a 148-62 (.705) record leading her alma mater. Davied guided her alma mater to a berth in the 2018-19 NCAA Division II National Tournament in her debut season, becoming the first Pitt State head coach in program history to enjoy a 20-win season in year one of their tenure (21-9). She led the Gorillas to a 17-11 overall record in 2019-20, a 14-9 mark in the Covid-19 abbreviated 2020-21 campaign and a 16-13 record in 2021-22. The 2022-23 season would see a return to the NCAA Division II National Tournament as the Gorillas finished 23-8 and reach the semifinals of the Central Regional. 2023-24 was historic as the Gorillas won the MIAA Tournament for the first time in program history and advanced to the third NCAA Division II National Tournament under Davied. Davied also became the quickest coach in school history to win 100 games during the season, at No. 3 Central Missouri on Dec. 16th. The 2024-25 season will go down in program history as the best ever, marking the most wins and farthest finish in a national tournament in program history. Davied help lead the Gorillas to a 33-4 overall, 18-1 MIAA record, claiming the MIAA Regular Season, MIAA Tournament and Central Region Tournament championships on their way to a NCAA Division II Final Four finish. Named the 2025 MIAA and KBCA (Kansas Basketball Coaches Association) Four Year College Coach of the Year. Davied, who served the previous 14 seasons as the assistant coach for her alma mater, replaced her former mentor, Lane Lord, who accepted the head coach position at NCAA Division I member University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. As the Gorillas top assistant the previous 14 years, Davied served as the team’s recruiting coordinator and was highly involved in all aspects of the administration of the women’s basketball program. During her tenure on the Pitt State staff (2004-present), the Gorillas have compiled a 431-222 overall record (.660), capturing two MIAA regular season titles in 2017 and 2025, two MIAA tournament title in 2024 and 2025. The Gorillas have also made nine trips to the NCAA Division II National Tournament (2012, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2019, 2023, 2024 and 2025), with a pair of Elite Eight appearances (2012, 2016) and a Final Four finish in 2025. Davied began her coaching career as a graduate assistant for the Gorilla women’s basketball program in the 2003-04 season, after completing a decorated playing career for Pitt State the previous season. She was hired as a full-time assistant in July 2004 by former head coach Steve High and remained to serve as the top assistant on Lord’s staff when he took over the program in April 2007. The Farlington, Kan., native scored 1,299 points in 109 career games, finishing her career as the school’s ninth-leading all-time scorer. She also set Pitt State records for career assists (553) and career free throw percentage (.844, 313-for-371). Davied also excelled in the classroom, earning third-team CoSIDA Academic All-District honors her senior season. She also was a three-time member of the MIAA Academic Honor Roll and a three-year MIAA Scholar-Athlete selection. Davied earned her bachelor’s degree in physical education from Pittsburg State in December 2003. She completed her master’s degree in physical education in December 2008.

Max Olsan

Olsan begins his second season as a Pittsburg State University women’s basketball team assistant coach in 2025-26. In year one at Pitt State, Olsan helped the Gorillas to a 33-4 overall, 18-1 MIAA record, claiming the MIAA Regular Season, MIAA Tournament and Central Region titles on their way to a NCAA Division II Final Four finish. Helped mentor one All-American, two All-Region selections and four All-MIAA performers during the 2024-25 season. Max comes to Pitt State after serving as an assistant basketball coach at Boone High School. A sought-out trainer, he’s worked with NBA, WNBA players, the Des Moines-based AAU Iowa United and the Overtime Training Facility in Ames, Iowa. He’s also coached for All Iowa Attack youth league and helped lead numerous basketball camps, including several for NBA and WNBA players. At Buena Vista University, he competed in basketball while earning dual degrees in sports management and digital media. He went on to earn a master’s in sports journalism from Northwestern University. A graduate of Ballard High School in Huxley, Iowa, where he was a team captain his senior year. Helped lead Ballard to its first basketball state championship appearance in 15 years.

Kelby Fritz

Pittsburg State University head women's basketball coach Amanda Davied announced today on May 30, 2024, the hiring of Kelby Fritz as an assistant coach on the Gorilla women's basketball staff. The 2025-26 season will be her second campaign working with the Gorillas. In year one at Pitt State, Fritz helped the Gorillas to a 33-4 overall, 18-1 MIAA record, claiming the MIAA Regular Season, MIAA Tournament and Central Region titles on their way to a NCAA Division II Final Four finish. Helped mentor one All-American, two All-Region selections and four All-MIAA performers during the 2024-25 season. Fritz comes to Pitt State after serving the past year as assistant coach/recruiting coordinator at Indiana State University. She joined the Sycamore coaching staff after spending the previous six seasons on the sidelines at Missouri Southern State University as an assistant coach. "Kelby's experience in the league, regional relationships with recruiting, personality, and work ethic, really made this a no brainer," Davied said. "She is very familiar with Pittsburg State, our program and style of play already, and I'm looking forward to working alongside her. I think our players, recruits, and fans will enjoy her fun-loving personality and genuine joy for relationships. I know she'll work hard, be loyal, and be dedicated to what's best for our program." During her time at MSSU, the Lions reached unprecedented heights in program history, making back-to-back NCAA Division II National Tournament appearances and reaching the regional final in 2023. MSSU compiled a 53-14 record during her final two seasons as the Lions won an MIAA regular season and tournament title in that span. Overall, MSSU went 97-81 with Fritz on the sidelines, with the Lions' 29 wins in the 2022-23 season setting a program record for single-season wins. The Lions won their first MIAA regular season title in program history in the 2021-22 season and their first MIAA Tournament title since 1996 in 2023. MSSU's back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances in 2022 and 2023 with Fritz on the sidelines marked the first time since 1993 and 1994 that the Lions made consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances. Prior to her time at MSSU, Fritz spent one season at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College, helping lead the Lady Norse to a National Junior College (NJCAA) Division 1 Region 2 and District B title that season. The 29-3 Lady Norse reached the second round of the NJCAA National Tournament and finished the season 16th in the nation in points per game (80.1) and seventh in 3-point field goals per contest (8.7). While at NEO, Fritz was responsible for game preparation, scouting, game day duties, recruiting, strength and conditioning and all aspects of team travel for the Lady Norse. Fritz began her coaching career as a graduate assistant at Hastings College, reaching a pair of NAIA Tournaments with the Broncos. Hastings reached the national semifinals of the NAIA Tournament in 2015, going 25-9 in Fritz's first season on the bench. The Broncos were 19-12 in her second season and made the NAIA Tournament as an at-large tea. A multi-sport athlete at the collegiate level, Fritz began her playing career at Missouri Southern, where she averaged 10 points per game over a three-year span (2009-12). She continued her playing career at Rogers State University, where she shot 41 percent from the field, 42 percent from behind the arc and 85 percent from the charity stripe. Rogers State reached the second round of the NAIA Tournament in her lone season as a Hillcat. In addition to her talents on the hardwood, Fritz also played one season of softball at Rogers State. Fritz earned her bachelor's of science degree in sports management with a minor in psychology in May 2013 from Rogers State University and received her master's of arts degree in teaching at Hastings College in May 2016.

Berry enters his first season as a Pittsburg State University women's basketball team assistant coach in 2025-26. Hunter comes to Pitt State after finishing his collegiate playing career at Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa. As a Red Raider, Berry appeared in 41 games during his career. Graduated from Northwestern College with a bachelor's degree in sports management.
