Point Loma Nazarene University Women's Cross Country

Arvin has served Point Loma Nazarene University as head coach in mens and womens track and field since 1995, and has guided both cross country teams since 1993.  Arvin's teams have won seven GSAC titles in women's track and field: 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2005, 2007, 2008; with two men's titles: 1998, 2010. His men's track & field team placed an all-time best second at nationals in 2000, while the women reached as high as eighth place in 2007.   Coach Arvin has earned numerous accolades during his tenure at PLNU. Following the 2002 GSAC meet, he was named as Mens Cross Country Co-Coach of the Year while in both 2005 and 2009 he was selected as Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year. He was named GSAC Track & Field Men's Coach of the Year in 1995, 1998 and 2002 and GSAC Women's Coach of the Year from 1997 to 2000 and again in 2004, 2005 and 2007.   Last season (2015), was the final year of transition from the NAIA to NCAA Division II for the Sea Lions, and because of that along with some other factors in the conference the PacWest did not hold a conference championship. However, the Sea Lions still had some historical performances, especially in the throws. Soliaana Faapouli moved into the top 3 in the school record books in the discus and the shot put, while taking over the top spot in the hammer throw. Twenty-eight student-athletes received PacWest All-Academic honors in track & field, and another 10 earned the honor in cross country. The women's track & field team also posted a 3.498 GPA in 2014-15, the best amongst all PLNU athletic teams. The previous season (2014), coach Arvin helped guide five Sea Lions track & field student-athletes to NCCAA All-American honors and PLNU to a fifth place finish at the NCCAA Championships. PLNU's Lindsay Honea and Chloe Soremekun each won national titles in the heptathlon and the triple jump, respectively. Arvin has also created a sports culture that also holds academic values at very high standards. A total of 41 student-athletes between the cross country team and the track & field team earned PacWest All-Academic honors in 2013-14, and both teams were named an NCCAA Scholar teams with a cumulative team GPAs over 3.4 Arvin has also been selected as NAIA Far West Region Women's Coach of the Year in cross country in 1994, and was selected as one of seven NAIA Regional Coaches of the Year in women's track and field for 1999, 2004, 2005, 2007 and 2008. In 1999, he was honored with induction into the Point Loma Nazarene University Athletic Hall of Fame for Outstanding Achievement as a Coach. Arvin has mentored 152 All-American performances in track & field (101 women and 51 men) and five in cross country (three men, two women). Ten of his track & field athletes became national champions. He has also mentored 159 NAIA Scholar Athletes in both cross country and track, and many others have gathered in All-GSAC, All-PacWest and GSAC/PacWest Scholar Athlete honors.    A standout runner at Warren Central High School in Indianapolis, Arvin continued his running career at Greenville College in Illinois, where he is now a member of the school's Athletic Hall of Fame. He earned his Bachelor's Degree at Greenville in 1969, and received his Master's Degree in education from Butler University in 1975.   Arvin lives in San Diego with his wife, Janice. They have two daughters: Christy Schneider and Allison Rainey, both graduates of PLNU. The Arvins have five grandchildren: Andrew, Abigail, Alexander Luke, Charlee and McKinlee. Professor Arvin also teaches in the PLNU Kinesiology, Physical Education and Athletic Training Departments.    

Asa Larsen has spent nearly two decades on the PLNU Track & Field coaching staff across two stints, from 1996-2004 and since 2016. With the Sea Lions, Larsen works with all groups during the general conditioning phase and then with sprints/hurdles during the competition sessions. She has played a pivotal role in helping assist, coach and guide PLNU's sprints and hurdles crew, including Madeline Worley (100 meter program record holder) in 2024 and PLNU's 4x100 meter program record team in 2025. Larsen was born in Helsingborg, Sweden, where she was coached by Kent Olsson, IFK Helsingborg, who was the hurdles coach for the Swedish national team during her time there. She then came to Point Loma in 1993 as a student-athlete, competing in the sprints and 400m hurdles. In 1993 she claimed the title as the fastest woman in the Golden State Athletic Conference after winning the 100m title. Larsen, a licensed physical therapist, is a USA Track & Field Level 2 coach in sprints, hurdles and relays. She married her husband Jeff Larsen in 1995. The couple has two kids, Emma (26) and Magnus (23), as well as a dog named Moose.
