John Walsh became Head Coach of the Sagehens in 2016 after previously serving as the Associate Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator for the Sagehens for four seasons prior to becoming the Head Coach.  Walsh joined the Sagehens after serving as the head coach at Northfield Mount Hermon School in Massachusetts. He also assisted with the track and field program and served as the strength and conditioning coach at NMH. Walsh had extensive collegiate experience coaching at Yale, Tufts and Georgetown, as well as one post-graduate year at Pomona-Pitzer in 1997, prior to taking over the head coaching position at NMH. While at Yale, he helped the Bulldogs defense rank No. 1 in scoring defense in all of FCS (10.5 ppg) during the 2008 season, as well as No. 2 in pass efficiency defense. Walsh had similar success at Tufts as a defensive coordinator, helping the Jumbos rank No. 1 in the NESCAC in both passing defense (127.1 ypg) and pass efficiency in 2003. Tufts also ranked 13th in all of Division III in total defense (258.1 yards per game) in 2003, and No. 4 in scoring defense (10.38 ppg) in 2001. While working with the defensive backs in 2002, he helped the Jumbos break the school record for interceptions in a season with 22. During his tenure, he coached 17 All-NESCAC players and three All-Americans. Walsh began his college coaching career at Pomona-Pitzer in 1997, when he coached outside linebackers and assisted with special teams. After leaving the Sagehens, he went to Georgetown, where he coached linebackers and special teams from 1998-2001, coaching two first-team All-MAAC players and one non-scholarship All-American. As a collegiate player, Walsh served as a team captain for the Amherst Football team in 1996, while starting for four years as an inside linebacker for the Lord Jeffs. Walsh graduated from Amherst in 1997 with a degree in history. He later earned his master's degree from Tufts in educational studies in 2005.
