Jennifer Scanlon

Head Coach

Scanlon helped guide the team to their most successful season in program history in 2015 as the Sagehens won the SCIAC Tournament (1-0 over Cal Lutheran) and advanced to the Round of 32 for the first time where they were defeated in double overtime to Illinois Wesleyan 1-0.  During her tenure, Scanlon has been honored as the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Coach of the Year, and the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) West Region Coach of the Year. She guided the Sagehens to a SCIAC championship and to the NCAA Division III Tournament in 2005, while her 2004 team had the second-best won-loss improvement in the nation. In her last season as the head coach in 2012, she led Pomona-Pitzer to the championship game of the SCIAC Tournament after a 2-1 overtime win over top-seeded Cal Lutheran in the semifinals.  Off the field, her Pomona-Pitzer teams have ranked in the top three in the nation in team grade point average four times (with a combined 3.55 or better), including three second-place rankings. Prior to coming to Pomona-Pitzer, Scanlon was the head coach at Kenyon College (Gambier, Ohio) for three and a half years. Scanlon also served as an assistant coach at Macalaster (her alma mater) from 1996-1998 and as a graduate assistant at the University of New Hampshire from 1998-2000. During her playing days at Macalester, Scanlon was a three-time All-American and two-time conference player of the year for the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC). She was inducted into the Macalaster College Athletic Hall of Fame. Scanlon holds a United States Soccer Federation (USSF) B license and has experience coaching competitive club soccer and in the Olympic Development Program. She is a member of both the NSCAA and the USSF, and has served on the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer committee, including acting as the chair of the West Region and Great Lakes Regions. Scanlon graduated from Macalester College (St. Paul, MN) in 1995 with a degree in History, and then earned her M.S. in Kiniseology from the University of New Hampshire, with a sport psychology emphasis. An associate professor of physical education in addition to her coaching duties, Scanlon earned the Claremont Colleges Lavender Graduation Outstanding Faculty/Staff Award. She currently lives with her partner, Liz, and their daughter Annika.
