Pomona-Pitzer Colleges Women's Water Polo

La served as the Interim Head Coach for the Pomona-Pitzer Men's Water Polo and Women's Water Polo programs in 2015-16 where he tallied a 13-16 record for the men's team and 14-16 for the women's team, while Head Coach Alex Rodriguez was on sabbatical to coach the Men's Junior National Team for USA Water Polo. La served as an assistant coach with both programs in 2014-15, helping the women's team to a share of the SCIAC title with a 10-1 league mark.  La has previously served as the head water polo coach at SCIAC rival La Verne, prior to joining the Sagehens in the fall of 2014. He has also been active at the club level, serving as head coach of three age groups at the Foothill Water Polo Club in Claremont, where he has worked with Rodriguez. A former water polo player at La Verne, La earned his bachelors degree in business administration in 2003. He also earned a masters degree at La Verne in marketing in 2005.

Perea enters her fourth season as an assistant coach of the Pomona-Pitzer Women's Water Polo program in 2016 after a standout career with the Sagehens that saw her earn Division III National Player of the Year honors in back-to-back seasons. She had helped Pomona-Pitzer to two straight SCIAC titles in her first two seasons as an assistant, including an outright title in 2014 and a co-championship in 2015. Perea helped the Sagehens to a pair of SCIAC titles and NCAA Tournament appearances in her career, which concluded with her senior season in 2011, when she earned her second straight Division III Player of the Year honor. She graduated as the program's all-time leading scorer, and her efforts helped the Sagehens to two SCIAC titles and a Division III national championship as well. Perea has extended her water polo experience beyond college, as she played professionally in Spain last year, following her graduation from Pitzer College in 2011.

Rodriguez has spent 10 years as the head coach of both the Pomona-Pitzer Men's Water Polo and Women's Water Polo programs, after beginning his tenure in the 2005-06 season. He will be taking a sabbatical in 2015-16 to coach with USA Water Polo, serving as the head coach for the men's junior national and youth national teams and as an assistant coach with the men's senior national team. While with the Sagehens, Rodriguez has been at the helm for 11 conference titles, leading the men's program to SCIAC titles in 2007, 2008, 2011 and 2012 (co-champions), and the women's program to SCIAC titles in 2007, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015 (co-champions). The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Water Polo program has made five NCAA Championship appearances in Rodriguez' tenure, earning the SCIAC's automatic bid with his first five league titles. The Sagehens have won three NCAA matches in those five appearances, including a 13-12 win over Iona in the seventh-place match in 2013, after Pomona-Pitzer trailed 12-8 with 4:30 to play. Rodriguez came to Pomona-Pitzer from Pepperdine University, where he has served as the Assistant Coach for the Men's Water Polo program from 2002-06. Rodriguez is a former All-American player at Pepperdine and was a member of the Waves' National Championship team in 1997. In addition to his duties as Assistant Coach, Rodriguez served as the Head Coach and co-owner of the Pepperdine Water Polo Club. In 2005, his 18 and under boys team won the Junior Olympic Championship. Rodriguez has also been the Head Coach of the men's Coastal California National Team in Premier League, with players coming from UCLA, Pepperdine, Loyola Marymount University, and UC Santa Barbara.
