Chuck Wilcoxen
Head Coach
Wilcoxen firmly believes it is the coachs job to help guide the athletes to reach their highest potential while leading happy, healthy, productive, and balanced lives. He is an avid student of his sport, perpetually striving to improve as a coach. He borrows from any useful resource, ranging from the ancient Greeks to contemporary Scandinavian Nordic Skiers. He has earned Level 3 certification from USA Track and Field, and Level 5 certification from the IAAF (the International governing body of Track and Field.) Both of those certifications are terminal. In summer 2011, Chuck finished serving a five year term on the NCAA Division III National Cross Country and Track and Field Committee. In his time on the committee, Wilcoxen served first as Outdoor Track & Field Liaison, then as Cross Country Liaison, and finally as Committee Chair, a position he held for two years. Chuck was named 2001, 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013 SLIAC Cross Country Coach of the Year. Chuck also garnered the 2004 United Small Colleges Athletic Association (USCAA) Mens Track & Field Coach of the Year award. Chuck lives in Alton, Illinois with his wife, Hilary Harper-Wilcoxen (college professor). They have two sons, Matts and Chaz, who are both in college. Prior to working at Principia, Chuck taught and coached in Connecticut, first at the Daycroft School in Greenwich (where he also served as Athletic Director), and the King School, in North Stamford. Athletes under Chucks guidance have been awarded All-American status nine times during his time at Principia. The Mens and Womens Cross Country teams are perennial Academic All-American Teams, and several athletes have earned individual academic distinction as well. Twenty nine out of thirty two school records in mens and womens indoor track (within his event groups) have been set during his tenure. Outdoors, 7 school records and 46 Top-Ten performances in middle and long-distance events have been recorded during Chucks time as coach.
