Tom Megyesi
Head Coach
Megyesi led the Peregrines to a 22-9 overall record with a 13-6 record in CCAC play in the 2015-16 season, with junior Cassidy Deno and sophomore Katie Wampler being named to the All-CCAC team. That wasnt the only honor for Deno, as she was named an NAIA Scholar-Athlete and received NAIA Third-Team All-American honors. During the 2014-15 campaign, Purdue Calumet finished 21-8 overall and captured its second-straight Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference South Division Title with a 12-5 mark in league play. Purdue Calumet was ranked as high as No. 8 in the NAIA Coaches Top 25 National Poll, which marked the teams highest-ever ranking. Under Megyesis tutelage, junior transfer Jada Buggs was named an NAIA Honorable Mention All-American, while junior center Patrice McBee led the nation in field goal percentage and was named NAIA National Player of the Week to go along with four all-CCAC selections, four CCAC Player of the Weeks, and three CCAC All-Academic selections. Megyesi led the Peregrines to perhaps their best season to date in 2013-14, as Purdue Calumet -- with an overall record of 25-7 -- captured both the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference regular-season and tournament title, advanced to its second-straight National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) national tournament, and won its first national tournament contest in school history with an opening-round victory over Oregon Tech. Senior Brooklyn Short was also named an NAIA Honorable Mention All-American that season. That victory also made Megyesi the programs all-time winningest coach in program history with his 118th win. In nine seasons, Megyesi has accumulated a career record of 161-115 (.583). For the Peregines performance in 2013-14, Megyesi was honored with both the CCAC Coach of the Year and NAIA Region IV Coach of the Year awards, both firsts in his career at Purdue Calumet. Under Megyesi, Purdue Calumet has become the one of the NAIA Division IIs most prolific offenses, while having nine players join the 1,000-point club during his tenure. During that time, the Black and Gold have put their imprint on the school record book, setting both individual and team marks. His last four teams have found the top of the schools scoring list, including 2012-13s record-breaking offense that put up 2,555 points on the year. During the 2015-16 campaign, the Peregrines ranked first in the CCAC with 75.9 percent shooting from the charity stipe while ranking third in rebound margin with a +5.2. The Black and Gold also ranked 19th in the NAIA with 3.67 blocks per game and 43.1 total rebounds per game, while also ranking 24th in scoring offense (75.1) and defensive rebounds per contest (29.1) In 2014-15, the Peregrines ranked in the NAIAs Top 10 in field goal percentage (45.6 percent), 3-point percentage (35.2 percent) and scoring offense, averaging a crisp 79.9 points per game. Purdue Calumet also broke the single-game scoring mark during the season in a 122-91 league victory over high-scoring rival Olivet Nazarene. Purdue Calumet continued its progression under Megyesi in 2012-13, reaching the 20-win plateau for the second-straight season. The Black and Gold went 21-10 overall and 17-5 in the CCAC, climbing as high as No. 13 in the NAIA Div. II Coaches Poll during the season. The 2012-13 squad beat five nationally-ranked opponents, earning a national tournament berth for just the third time program history. The Peregrines had a breakout season in 2011-12, tallying 23-10 overall record and a 10-2 mark in conference action en route to the programs first trip to the CCAC Div. II Tournament championship game. The Black and Golds .697 winning percentage was the programs highest in nine years, when the 2003-04 team went 24-9. Purdue Calumets success under Megyesi has been recognized by the rest of the conference and the NAIA, as he has seen 30 athletes receive All-CCAC recognition -- including 13 first-team selections -- two CCAC Freshman-of-the-Year accolades, 23 CCAC All-Academic selections, four NAIA Scholar-Athletes four NAIA All-Americans. The future of the Peregrines program grows brighter each season with Megyesis continuous success on the recruiting front: seven of his recruits have gone on to score more than 1,000 points during their time in Hammond. Megyesis teams have also excelled in the classroom, as the 2010-11, 2011-12 and 2012-13 teams earned the NAIAs prestigous Scholar Team Award with a cumulative grade-point average above 3.0. In his time at Purdue Calumet, 23 players have garnered CCAC All-Academic recognition, three have become NAIA Daktronics Scholar Athletes, and one has participated in the esteemed Red Cross/NAIA Leadership Program. Before Purdue Calumet, Megyesi spent 24 seasons (1982-2006) at local Lake Central High School, guiding the girls basketball program to a 370-164 record in that span. Megyesi wrapped up his coaching career at Lake Central ranked 11th in Indiana girls basketball history in career victories. During his time with the Indians, Megyesis squads racked up 11 sectional championships, four regional titles, three semi-state crowns, a state runner-up finish in 1998 and a state championship in 1994. That resume proved worthy of perhaps Megyesis greatest honor -- his inclusion in the 14th Womens Induction Class into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame in the spring of 2015. The Okemos, Mich. native received numerous coaching honors during his tenure at Lake Central, highlighted by his Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association Coach-of-the-Year honors in 1994 and 1998. Megyesi graduated from Michigan State University in 1974 with a degree in physical education. He currently resides in Merrillville, Ind. with his wife of over 40 years, Jan. The couple has three grown children, Mike of Valparaiso, Ind., Lori of Valparaiso, Ind. and Mark of Chesterton, Ind., as well as four grandchilden; Thomas, David, Oliver and Grayson. 2200 169th Street Hammond, IN 46323 1401 S. Head Coach
Purdue Northwest Director of Athletics Rick Costello has announced the hiring of Chris Vincent as the next head coach of the women's basketball program and will begin his first season in the 2026-27 campaign. "I am excited to welcome Chris Vincent to Purdue Northwest to lead our women's basketball program," said Costello. "Chris is a rising star in the coaching profession and has demonstrated the ability to build and elevate programs at an elite level. His track record of success, player development, and commitment to excellence makes him the ideal leader for our student-athletes. We are confident he will have an immediate and lasting impact on our women's basketball program both on and off the court." Vincent arrives at Purdue Northwest following a highly successful two-year stint at Langston University, where he served as head women's basketball coach. In his time leading the program, Vincent compiled an outstanding 55-9 overall record, including a 31-3 regular season mark in his first season, while guiding Langston to back-to-back SAC Conference regular season and a tournament championship in 2024-25. In those two years, his program qualified for the NAIA National Tournament and advanced to the Sweet 16 in the 2024-25 campaign. Under Vincent's leadership, Langston rose to as high as No. 10 nationally and established itself as one of the premier defensive teams in the country, allowing just 48.7 points per game, ranking No. 1 nationally. His program also produced an All-American in Mikayla Woods, multiple all-conference selections, and conference award winners including Defensive Player of the Year honors. "First and foremost, I am excited and truly honored to lead the Purdue Northwest women's basketball program and represent this outstanding university," said Vincent. "The clear vision, unwavering support, and family atmosphere shown by Athletic Director Rick Costello, Chancellor Chris Holford, and the entire athletic administration made this decision an easy one for my wife, Susan, and me. We are proud to call PNW and the Chicagoland area our home, and we are grateful for your trust and belief in what we're building together. To the PNW community, it is a privilege to represent you, and we are committed to making you proud." Prior to his time as head women's coach, Vincent played a pivotal role in transforming Langston's men's basketball program as associate head coach from 2022-24. Taking over a team that finished 1-27 the previous season, Vincent helped engineer one of the most remarkable turnarounds in college basketball history, culminating in a 31-3 record, a Sweet 16 appearance, and a 2024 NAIA National Runner-Up finish with a 35-2 record. Over a two-year span, the program posted a combined 66-5 record and consistently ranked among the top teams in the nation. Vincent was also in the Ivy League ranks for three years as Yale's Director of Basketball Operations under one the best coaches in the country in James Jones. The Bulldogs made the 2016 NCAA Tournament, where they knocked off No. 3-seed Baylor and finished 23-7 (13-1 in conference play) before losing to Duke 71-64 to head to the Sweet 16. During this time Yale produced multiple professionals in the NBA, most notable Miye Oni of the Utah Jazz, along with G-League and Ivy League players of the year. During his final season at Yale, he was an assistant coach at the 2018 Final Four in San Antonio for the Reese's All-Star Game. Additionally, Vincent served as an assistant video coordinator and assistant to the head coach for the WNBA's Connecticut Sun in 2012 for Mike Thibault, the all-time winningest coach in the WNBA. While with the Sun he broke down opponent's film and tendencies, and created and developed game plans, practice plans and player evaluations. Vincent also conducted individual workouts with the Sun players, and assisted in formulating scouting reports. The Connecticut Sun made the Eastern Conference Finals during this time. Vincent's coaching résumé also includes stops at the University of Fort Lauderdale, University of Southern Miss, Miami Dade College, and the University of Delaware. Vincent earned his degree in sports management from Springfield College (Mass.) in 2013.
