Gibson returns for the 2016-17 season for his 11th year behind the bench for the Queens mens hockey team. Last season, the native of Gananoque, Ont., led the Gaels to their seventh consecutive playoff appearance and marked the eighth consecutive season that the Gaels have won 10 or more games. In 2015 the CIS announced that Gibson will be the head coach of Canada's men's hockey entry for the 2017 Winter Universiade in Almaty, Kazakhstan. The 2013-14 season saw the Gaels reach new heights. Thanks to a 12-0-5 start, Queen's got back into the national Top 10 rankings for the first time since the 1982-83 campaign, reaching as high as No.7.  The team finished with a 17-6-5 record to tie the program record for wins in a single season. Gibson went on to win both the OUA East Coach of the Year and CIS Coach of the Year honours. During his time with Queens, Gibson has led the Gaels to 12 or more victories in seven of his nine seasons at the helm. In 224 regular season games, his record with Queens is 114-105-31. His ability to relate to the players and passion for the game are his greatest traits. Prior to joining the Gaels as an assistant coach in 2005-06, Gibson enjoyed an excellent four year career at St. Marys University in Halifax, N.S. As a member of the Huskies, Gibson scored 42 goals and 56 assists in 88 career games. Also a distinguished junior player, Gibson played four seasons in the OHL for Erie, North Bay and London tallying 119 goals and 143 assists in 252 games.
