Kevin Fagan
Head Coach
One of the most exciting up-and-coming coaches in collegiate softball, Kevin Fagan was named the 11th head coach of the Radford Softball program in July 2024. Fagan is currently entering his second season in charge of the Highlander softball program. During his debut 2025 campaign, the Highlanders softball program saw rejuvenated heights claiming the Big South Regular Season Title as well as finishing ranked 24th in the D1 Softball Mid-Major poll. At the conclusion of the season, Fagan was named the conference’s Coach of the Year. During the season, Radford posted a 30-26 overall record, 14-4 in Big South play, claiming notable victories over programs such as Louisville, East Carolina, Binghamton, Villanova, Charlotte, and UNC Greensboro. Multiple Radford student-athletes saw marked improvements under Fagan’s guidance. Six Highlanders earned their first-ever all-conference awards as Radford improved in multiple major stat categories such as batting average, total bases, runs scored, strikeout to walk ratio, ERA, shutouts, strikeouts and opponent batting average. Radford’s overall wins were the most since 2018, Big South wins were most since 2014 and the team earned their first postseason win since 2021. Radford also achieved their first Big South series victories over Longwood and USC Upstate in program history during the campaign. Overall, during Fagan’s tenure, Radford has seen seven players chosen to all-conference awards lists, four player of the year awards, 10 players of the week, one all-region awards and one all-American nods. The Highlanders have also been ranked in the D1 Softball Mid-Major poll for a total of four weeks. Fagan joined the Highlanders after spending four seasons with Division II Emmanuel where the Lions amassed a 121-96 record during his tenure. The Lions reached new heights in the program's history over that span, including their most overall wins, most conference wins, first-ever conference Player of the Year and first-ever NFCA All-American. They also reached a program-high ninth in the regional rankings. In 2022, Emmanuel broke every offensive, pitching and defensive record in school history. In his first season with Lions in 2021, Fagan led the program to their first-ever Conference Carolinas Championship, earning their first-ever bid to the NCAA Division II Tournament. Prior to Emmanuel, Fagan spent seven seasons at the junior college level with the College of Central Florida. During his tenure, the Patriots never had a losing season. Before Fagan arrived there, the Patriots had never finished higher than fourth in their conference standings before going on to dominate the Mid-Florida Conference and the NJCAA. From 2014-2020, he coached the Patriots to several firsts, including first conference championship, first Region 8 championship, first national championship tournament appearance (2015-2nd, 2019-3rd), first national ranking in school history and first NJCAA No. 1 ranking in school history. From 2009-2012, Fagan coached his daughters in travel ball on Team North Florida, where they consistently competed for a national championship. In his four years as a coach, the team won ASA Gold Nationals, Champions Cup, Colorado Independence Day Tournament and the inaugural NFCA tournament. The team placed third at the Premier National Championship in his last year as the head coach. During that time, he produced 50 scholarship players, including 14 that played in the Division 1 Women's College World Series. Coach Fagan also coached his three older daughters at Dunnellon High School where they won two Florida state championships, were ESPN national champions, produced three Gatorade Players of the Year, seven all-state players and three all-americans. Prior to his time on the softball scene, Fagan was an accomplished football player at the collegiate and professional level. In 1983, he was a member of the Miami Hurricanes national championship team that won the Orange Bowl. After his collegiate career, he joined the San Francisco 49ers as a defensive end and was an integral part of the defense that helped win a pair of Super Bowls. Coach Fagan is married to Nancy (Cotton) Fagan. They have six children Kasey, Sami, Haley, Cole, Cameron and Jack, and one grandchild, Kaius. WHAT THEY'RE SAYING "Congratulations to Coach Kevin Fagan and to the Radford University softball program for his hiring as their new head coach. Coach Fagan brings with him a wealth of knowledge about the sport of softball and life. He cares about his student-athletes more than their stats on the field. Coach Fagan commits to excellence in all he does. I know he will commit to his student-athletes his best and to help them reach their full potential both on and off the field. The future of Radford softball looks bright with Coach Fagan at the helm." - Liberty Softball Head Coach Dot Richardson. "Kevin Fagan was one of the greatest teammates I had at the University of Miami. He was one of the toughest football players I've ever been around, but also a gentle giant off the field. I hope one day my granddaughter who loves softball would get a chance to play for a coach like Kevin Fagan. Radford is blessed to have him as their new softball coach." - retired football coach, player and television analyst Mark Richt "Congratulations to Coach Fagan and Radford softball. He has a track record for building championship level teams, developing players on and off the field, and leading programs the right way. I'm excited for the Fagan family and the young women at Radford who will have the opportunity to learn under Coach Fagan's guidance." - Virginia Tech Softball Head Coach Pete D'Amour

Since the start of 2018 the men's program has seen six top-10 performances and 16 top-10 performances on the women's side. During the modified 2021 spring season both the men's and women's cross country programs had impressive showings. The women's team placed second overall at the Big South Championships while the men's team placed third. Both team finishes were top placements for the programs in over a decade. Radford has seen great growth and improvement under Bradley with both the men's and women's programs placing in the top five at the 2019 Big South Championships. The Highlanders also saw their first ever Freshman of the Year in Caitlin Apps as she placed third overall at the Big South Championships and set program records in the 4k, 5k, and 6k races. Bradley's recruiting also brought in another top runner Rachel Millirons who has placed herself in the record book for the 4k, 5k and 6k as well as multiple distance events in track competition. Between 2018 and 2019 the women's program jumped up two spots from sixth to fourth in the Big South. On the men's side grad transfer Callum Wilson was an immediate contributor to the Highlanders while freshman such as Bus Baker, Zach Worthman, Benji Pinckney, Peyton Hurd and Jacob Hanner all set the stage for many years of success ahead. In one year's time the men's program jumped from sixth to fifth in the conference. In December 2018 the program was named by the NCAA committee as the USTFCCCA Southeast regional representative. Originally hailing from London, United Kingdom, Bradley oversees the Highlanders' cross country teams and work with the women's track distance crew. Prior to coming to the New River Valley, Bradley coached at Bradley University in Peoria, Ill., for five seasons. In addition to the quadruple of titles during his stint at Bradley, the Braves won 16 individual MVC championships with three student-athletes advancing to their respective national championships. Bradley coached twins that excelled for him on the course. Together the duo accomplished back-to-back women’s cross country crowns in 2014 and 2015, twice qualified in 10,000m run at the NCAA Women’s Championships and advanced to the NCAA title meet in cross country in 2015. On the men’s side, Bradley coached the first ever Brave to reach the NCAA Men’s Cross Country Championships, which happened in 2016. Bradley had another runner earn All-America honors in the 1,500m run in 2017 after qualifying for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship. A 2011 graduate of St Mary's University in Twickenham, London, Bradley earned his bachelor’s degree in sports science and strength and conditioning science. He was co-captain of the cross country/track and field teams and was part of the 2011 squad that claimed the British Universities and College Sport title.
