Dan Flynn

Head Coach

Flynn expertise in running has led to being quoted in Runners World (June, 2013), Running Times (August, 2013) and Boston Magazine (January, 2013). Coach Flynn is certified as a Level 1 & 2 Coach (Endurance) by USA Track and Field and certified by the Road Runners Club of America. In his first season at Regis College this year, Flynn coached freshman Matt Owens who smashed the school record in 100m (11.02) and went on to qualify for every championship race in New England. Prior to Regis, Dan Flynn was extremely successful in building the Lesley University XC/Track program into a powerhouse in the New England Collegiate Conference. In five years, Flynn coached his previous XC team to five NECC conference champions and won "Coach of the Year" three times (2009, 2010, 2012). In 2012, Flynn had his most successful season of his career, as both the men's and women's cross country teams won New England Collegiate Conference Championships. The women's team earned national recognition by being the only cross country team in the nation to earn a perfect score of 15 in its conference championship for the second year in row. In 2009, he made history by leading the men's cross country team to an NECC Championship, the first men's team to earn this honor at Lesley University. Flynn has coached 8 NECC Runners of the Year, five NECC Rookies of the Year, and 50 NECC All-Conference runners. Flynn's coaching career began in 2001, when he founded a middle school girl's track team in Camden, New Jersey during a year of service with AmeriCorps. He went on to coach track and field at his alma mater, Thayer Academy, in Braintree, MA, which went on to win its fifth Independent School League championship. Throughout his time at Thayer, Flynn coached many individual ISL and NEPSTA champions in the 1,500, 3,000 and 800-meter. As a high schooler at Thayer, he broke the school record in the 800m and was on the ISL and New England champion 4x400-meter relay in 1996. Flynn was recruited to run at Merrimack College, where he ran four years of cross country and track and was named captain in his junior year. He went on to receive his master's degree from Boston College in higher education administration with a concentration in college student development. Flynn completed the Boston Marathon in 2006 and 2011. He is also the Director of Stowe Running Camp and a private coach at the Boston Running Center where he trains advanced runners qualifying for the Boston Marathon. He sits on the Board of Directors of the NE Distance Project in Woonsocket, RI. When he is home, he enjoys time with his wife, Sara and his son, Luke. 2009, 2010, 2012, 2013 NECC Coach of the Year Dan Flynn expertise in running has led to being quoted in Runners World (June, 2013), Running Times (August, 2013) and Boston Magazine (January, 2013).
