Bounds served as a student assistant coach for the Bulldogs in 2012-13, where he conducted practices and handled administrative tasks for the NCAA participant. He also acted as an assistant coach for the Mason Rudolph Championship. Under his guidance, the team won four tournaments on the season and placed second on two other occasions. The Meridian, Miss. native graduated from Mississippi State in 2013 with an accounting degree. In his lone season playing at MSU in 2011-12, Bounds averaged 75.67 strokes over 15 rounds in the spring. He qualified for the 2012 SEC Championship, where he ranked fourth on the team and 56th overall. Bounds began his collegiate career at Meridian Community College, where he was named Outstanding Freshman of the Year in 2008. He earned all-tournament honors at three events and was named to the MCC All-Academic team. He served as freshman and sophomore team captain as well. After two years, he transferred to Birmingham Southern College for 2009-10, where he won the medal at the Huntingdon Invitational and qualified for each of the team's tournaments.
