Kayla Tierney

Head Coach

Bio February 14, 2024 SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College Athletics Department is pleased to announce that Kayla Tierney has been named Head Women's Soccer Coach, effective immediately. The announcement was made by Scott Newton, Director of Student Life & Athletics.   Tierney assumes the position from Jenna Castricone who led the program the last three seasons. Castricone will focus on NJCAA Compliance, Sports Information, and Procurement within the Athletics Department.   "I am incredibly grateful and excited for the opportunity to lead the women's soccer program at Richard Bland. There is still a ton of untapped potential in women's soccer, and RBC is a great school to help move the game forward," says Tierney.   The Richmond, Virginia native spent the last three season as an Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator for the Randolph-Macon College Yellow Jackets women's soccer team. She was also an Assistant Director of Club Operations and Travel Coach for the Richmond Strikers. From 2020-2021, Kayla spent a year as the Technical Director and Travel Program Director for Shenandoah Valley United in Harrisonburg, Virginia. Prior to her collegiate and club coaching career, Kayla was an Assistant Girls' Varsity Coach at East Rockingham High School, and was Lead Coach and Camp Director at Own Touch Southside training facility in Midlothian, Virginia.   Kayla noted, "I believe that college athletics can be used as a tool to instill core values in the individual, enhance the student's success in the classroom, and develop the athlete at the next level. I want to create an environment of excellence that fosters student-athlete development and success both on and off the field."   Tierney received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology from James Madison University in 2020, after competing at Radford University her freshman year, and Virginia Military Institute her sophomore year, after a career ending injury in 2015.   "We are extremely excited to welcome the next era of Statesmen Women's Soccer under the leadership of Coach Tierney. Our search committee was extremely impressed with her experience and drive to be successful. I am most excited for our current athletes and the athletes she is going to bring in. We are certain that she will have this program competing for championships, while mentoring them to be role models at Richard Bland College," says Newton.
