Bio Amaral Set to Lead Statesmen Volleyball Programs SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – Jonathon Amaral, has been named the new Head Indoor/Beach Volleyball Coach at Richard Bland College of William & Mary. The announcement came from Scott Newton, Director of Student Life & Athletics. Amaral brings a wealth of knowledge to Richard Bland, having coached for many years at the college, high school, and club level, as well as playing collegiately at Bluefield College. The Rhode Island native, arrives at RBC from NCAA Division II Virginia Union University, where he served as an Assistant Coach for the women's volleyball program. At Virginia Union, Amaral has played a key role in developing game strategies and managing in-game adjustments to maximize team success. He also monitored student academic grades; boasting a team GPA of 3.5, assisted in recruiting, developing game schedules for fall and spring seasons, and managing travel arrangements. Prior to Virginia Union University, Amaral coached at York High School, Denbigh High School, Coastal Hampton Roads Volleyball Club, and South East Region Volleyball Club. Amaral organized all aspects of each of the programs including practice planning and conditioning, fundraising, arranged travel, and purchasing. As a Head Coach with Coastal Hampton Roads Volleyball Club, Amaral was the main recruiting coordinator, being the main point of contact for athletes and parents. Some of Amaral's coaching accolades include: 2023 NFHS State Coach of the Year – Volleyball / York High School 2023 Peninsula Sports Club VHSL Coach of the year 2022 Class 3 State Coach of the Year – York High School 2022 Class 3 State Champions – York High School 2022 3A Region Champion – York High School 2022 3A Region Coach of the Year – York High School 2022 Endless Summer Tournament Champion (5-0) 2022 ACPL Greensboro Champions 17 Open 2022 Top 3 finish at Boston National qualifier 2021 3A Regional Runner Up – York High School 2021 Class 3 State Final Four – York High School 2020 4A Region Champion – Denbigh High School 2020 4A Region Coach of the Year – Denbigh High School 2020 Class 4 Boys State Final Four – Denbigh High School 2019 Most wins in Denbigh Boys program history for a season (15 wins) 2018/2019 City of Oaks Champion 16 Boys – 18 Boys "We are excited to welcome Jon to Richard Bland College," says Athletic Director, Scott Newton. "Coach Amaral's experience developing student-athletes and recruiting at the collegiate level will be a great asset to RBC, as we continue to compete for Regional and National Championships." During his collegiate playing career at Bluefield University, formerly Bluefield College, Jon was selected for 1st Team All-Conference as a middle blocker/right side hitter. During his high school playing days at Denbigh High School, he was selected 1st Team All-Region and 2nd Team All-Region, and still holds the school record for most kills in a season with 387. "I am truly honored and grateful to Athletic Director, Scott Newton, and the hiring committee for entrusting me to lead the Statesmen volleyball programs," says Amaral. "I look forward to leading this talented team and contributing to the continued success and growth of both indoor and beach programs." Amaral is a member of USA Volleyball which includes CAP-1 and IMPACT Certifications, as well as a member of AVP Premier U.S Beach Volleyball League, Gold Medal Squared, American Volleyball Coaches Association, and Junior Volleyball Association.

Bio Posted: Jan 06, 2026 Statesmen Volleyball Adds Jaina Leek to Coaching Staff SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA — Richard Bland College Athletics has announced the addition of Jaina Leek as Assistant Volleyball Coach, bringing a high-level former collegiate setter and emerging coach to the Statesmen volleyball program. The Williamsburg, Virginia native joins Richard Bland College after a standout four-year playing career as a setter at the University of Lynchburg, where she competed as a varsity student-athlete from 2022 to 2025. During her career, she totaled 1,500 assists and 500 digs, while playing a pivotal role in Lynchburg's rise from a No. 240 national ranking into the top 50—a testament to both her on-court leadership and competitive impact. "We're thrilled to add Jaina to our coaching staff," said Head Coach, Jonathan Amaral. "She brings a deep understanding of the setter position, strong volleyball IQ, and firsthand experience helping elevate a program at the national level." Leek also brings two years of club coaching experience with Heart of Virginia Volleyball, where she assisted in leading a 17s regional team. Her responsibilities included practice planning, in-game decision-making, tournament travel, and athlete development. In addition, she completed a coaching practicum with the University of Lynchburg volleyball program, assisting with recruiting efforts, scouting reports, equipment coordination, and team organization. Academically, Leek holds a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Physiology from the University of Lynchburg and is currently pursuing her Master's Degree in Coaching and Athletic Education, further strengthening her ability to support student-athletes through evidence-based training and holistic development. Beyond collegiate and club volleyball, Leek has coached youth camps, clinics, and leagues across Virginia, while remaining active in community service through volunteer work with the Lynchburg Humane Society. Leek will begin her role immediately as the Statesmen continue preparations for the upcoming Beach season.
