Head Coach
Stone has been the head coach of the men's program since the spring of 2001, earning Northeast Conference Coach of the Year honors. Stone's most recent in a long line of awards came in April 2013. Stone was named the Tri-State Professional Golfers Association of America Teacher of the Year. In 2010-11, Stone led the Colonials men to two tournament titles and a second-place finish at the Northeast Conference Championships. He also helped C.G. Mercatoris (2007-2011) to the league championships, the Colonials first NEC champion since 1996. Mercatoris went on to PGA Qualifying School after becoming the first RMU player to take part in the NCAA Championships. The Robert Morris women finished third in the same season led by Elizabeth Wenger's third-place finish at the NEC championships. The pinnacle of Stone's decade-long career came at the end of the 2009-10 season when he became the first coach in Northeast Conference history to be named both the NEC Men's Coach of the Year and the NEC Women's Coach of the year. That season, the RMU men finished third at the conference championships after winning two events during the season. The women also finished third at the league championships after garnering back-to-back victories during the spring portion of the schedule. Three times as the men's head coach, Stone has led the Colonials to a second-place finish at the Northeast Conference Tournament. He was named the NEC Coach of the Year the first time he did it in 2003. That year, the Colonials finished two strokes out of first place and had three golfers finish in the top-10 and on the All-NEC team. In all, 14 men and six women have been named to All-NEC squads in his 14 seasons. Among those are one medalist, five top-five finishers and two runners-up. Mercatoris won the 2011 NEC Championship. Ryan Mikita (2002-05) tied for second in 2003 at one-over while Damien Mackman (2002-05) was the runner-up in 2005 when Robert Morris hosted the championship at Quicksilver Golf Club. Mackman shot six-over par, finishing one stroke back of medalist honors. Immediately prior to taking over the Robert Morris squad, Stone was the golf coach at Our Lady of Sacred Heart high school in Coraopolis, Pa., for four seasons. Two players earned the right to play in the state championship and one team made a run at a WPIAL crown during his tenure. A Class "A" PGA Professional, Stone has been a teaching professional at Scally's Golf Center in Moon Township, Pa., since 1995. He has played in Tri-State PGA events since 1984 and is a member of the USGA, NGCA and the PGA of America. Steve Shingledecker
Head Coach
Steve Shingledecker was named head coach of the RMU men's golf program June 14, 2023. "We are excited to appoint Steve Shingledecker to the position of head men's golf coach," RMU Vice President & Director of Athletics Chris King '94 said. "Steve is an outstanding leader with a passion for developing student-athletes on and off the course. He received glowing recommendations from the golf community and by those he has worked with over the years. Most importantly, we know how important ensuring a positive student-athlete experience is to him, and we believe that the young men in our program will benefit greatly from his leadership, mentoring and coaching. Steve knows our program and student-athletes, and he will take great pride in continuing the growth of our men's golf program." Shingledecker, a native of Franklin, Pa., brings over a decade of experience as he begins his second stint with RMU after being an assistant coach for the Colonials during the 2022-23 campaign. He helped RMU to four top-five finishes last season, including a third-place effort at The Jewell, hosted by Northern Kentucky University, where its team score of 861 ranks second in program history for a 54-hole competition. "It is with great honor that I accept the position of head men's golf coach at Robert Morris University," Shingledecker said. "Over the years I have been fortunate to compete and coach at a high level but nothing has been more exciting to me than the opportunity to move forward with RMU and the golf program. Over the past year I have learned a great deal about this terrific university and their commitment to athletics. Golf is a unique sport that combines individual accomplishments within a team concept. It will be our goal to compete year in and year out for titles in the Horizon League and NCAA appearances. We will look to recruit the top talent to play golf at RMU. The resources here for golf are as good or better than any team in this conference." While helping the RMU golf program, Shingledecker was the director of golf operations and instruction at the Turn Club in Cranberry Township, Pa. He ran the day-to-day operations while being an instructor and developer in lessons, clinics and camps. His duties also included annual budgeting for golf operations, staff management and local marketing. Prior to his stint at the Turn Club, Shingledecker was the director of golf at one of the world's top 100 destination golf resorts in Nemacolin Woodlands from 2018-20. While conducting golf lessons, fittings and clinics, he designed and implemented platforms to analyze market demographics and developed strategic growth plans for Nemacolin. "Steve really stood out during the search process because of the vision he painted for the future of the RMU men's golf program," King continued. "His vision for our program is ambitious and inspiring, and is aligned with RMU Athletics goals and values, and he shares our vision of winning league titles and advancing in the NCAA Championships. He is a great fit to lead our men's golf program moving forward." Before his previous tenure at Nemacolin, Shingledecker was a co-founder and named president of a non-profit organization called Stick With It from 2014-18. Stick With It is an organization that helps youth golfers develop their skill set and development. Over 200 children have benefited from the organization as they have raised over $1 million in donations. Shingledecker was a four-year starter for the baseball team at North Carolina State University from 1988-1991. During his time, he made three appearances in the NCAA Tournament while being selected as the ACC Tournament MVP in 1990. He was an All-Tournament selection during that season before being named to the All-ACC Team during his senior campaign. After earning a bachelor's degree in business management, Shingledecker stayed on as an assistant coach where he helped the Wolfpack win the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship in 1992. Transitioning from the diamond to the course, Shingledecker found success. In 1998, he was a sectional qualifier for the United States Open before being a local qualifying medalist and sectional qualifier in 2001. He then was a United States Amateur qualifier in the same year before qualifying for the United States Middle Amateur in 2003. Shingledecker became a co-owner and director of Golf of Wanango Country Club from 2013-18, where he taught over 1,000 students/clinics. Tweet #BobbyMo

Robert Bell
Assistant Coach
Bell is entering his first season as an assistant coach with the Colonials golf team, although he is no stranger to Robert Morris University. He brings a wealth of coaching and management experience to augment the Colonials coaching staff. Most recently, Bell took an internship with the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA), traveling throughout the United States to coordinate and manage various tournaments. From the AJGA headquarters in Braselton, Ga., he traveled throughout the country over the course of 15 weeks to oversee all aspects of tournament play from setting tee and pin locations to acting as a rules official and managing and coordinating volunteers. Bells role with the AJGA allowed him to watch and interact with some of the best junior golfers in the country, something that should help him in the Colonials future recruiting efforts. No stranger to coaching, Bell was the head coach of the Trinity School District junior high basketball team and was an assistant basketball coach at both Bishop Canevin and Fort Cherry. Bell graduated from RMU in the fall of 2014 after taking on an active role within the collegiate community. He was the president of the RMU mens golf club team for three years. He also served as a Colonial Ambassador, an intramural sports official and was the 2013-14 Campus Recreation Male Scholar Athlete of the Year.

"His expertise in individual skill development and elite junior coaching is a huge asset, especially for player development and recruiting. I'm looking forward to learning and growing as a coach and person at RMU. Being back home in Pittsburgh is such a blessing for me and my family. I can't wait to meet all the players and get started. Let's go BobbyMo!" Originally from the Beverly Hills, Michigan area, Treviño's addition to the RMU coaching staff reinforces the program's commitment to providing its student-athletes with elite-level coaching and support as they pursue their academic and athletic goals, with a clear focus on player development.
