Marty Kelly
Head Coach
Kelly returns for his 16 th season at Roger Williams as Head Coach of the Mens Lacrosse team. Kelly has led the team to an overall record of 149-103-1 during his tenure, including a regular season conference record of 92-35. Four of his teams have appeared in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Tournament Championship Game and three have been selected to participate in the ECAC Division III New England Tournament. During his tenure, Kelly has coached one USILA All-American, two USILA Academic All-Americans, 100 All-CCC players, three CCC Senior Scholar-Athletes of the Year, one CCC Short-Stick Specialist of the Year, seven All-New England honorees, six ECAC All-Star selections, and one ECAC Rookie of the Year. In addition, 17 of his players have been selected to participate in the NEILA East/West Senior All-Star Game. Kelly is also a two-time CCC Coach of the Year, earning the honor after the 2002 and 2007 seasons. A native of South Salem, New York, Kelly is a 1988 graduate of John Jay High School. Kelly went on to receive a B.S. degree in Business Administration from Nazareth College in 1992 and later earned an M.S. degree in Sports Administration from Georgia State University in 1998. During Kelly's playing days, he was a two-time High School All-American at John Jay High School (NY) before going on to serve as a captain for Nazareth Colleges first National Championship team in 1992. Kelly was selected NCAA Division III All-America after the 1990, 1991 and 1992 seasons and was chosen as the 1992 recipient of the Lt. Col. J.I. (Jack) Turnbull Award that is given annually to the Outstanding Attackman in Division III. Kelly still ranks among the top all-time leaders in goals scored, assists and total points at Nazareth. Kelly was inducted into the Nazareth College Athletics Hall of Fame in 1998, the US Lacrosse Hudson Valley Chapter Hall of Fame in 2002 and the John Jay High School Athletics Hall of Fame in 2011. In addition to his coaching role at Roger Williams, Kelly also serves as Intramurals and Recreation Coordinator in the Department of Athletics, Intramurals and Recreation. He and his wife Wynter reside in East Providence, R.I. along with their five children; daughters Molly, Maeve, Meara and Madelyn and son Finn.

In his second season, the team’s 13-6 record, tied the most wins in program history (13). The team’s 9-1 record at home was the most wins on Bayside Field in program history. Roger Williams hosted and was victorious in the CCC Quarterfinals before being defeated in the CCC Semifinal. Roger Williams finished first in the CCC in Man-up scoring percentage and Man-up goals per game. Roger Williams finished second in total goals scored in conference play and Man-down kill percentage. Following the 2024 season, Freshman Riley Spellman was named the CCC Rookie if the Year. Senior Matt Hemmert and Sophomore Kyle Zirn were named to the CCC First Team. Spellman earned Second Team recognition, while Seniors Matt Halpin, Tyler Zanini, and Graduate student, Kevin Murphy all earned Third Team honors. Kevin Murphy, Matt Hemmert, and Tyler Zanini also earned USILA Scholar All-American honors. In Gould’s first season in Bristol, the team finished 9-7. Following the season, Junior Matt Halpin was named to the All-CCC First Team. Senior Kevin Murphy and Freshman Kyle Zirn were named to the All-CCC Second Team. Three Hawks were recognized on the All-CCC Third Team (Jack Kester, Michael Businelli, and Tyler Zanini.) Prior to Gould’s arrival at Roger Williams, he spent three seasons as the Offensive Coordinator at Providence College of the Big East Conference. During his time as a Friar, Gould coached 4 All Big-East players on offense. The Friars appeared in the Big East tournament in Gould’s second year. During the 2021 season, the Friars ranked #8 in man-up scoring in the nation. Prior to Providence Gould spent five seasons as the Associate Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator at UMass Lowell. The Duxbury native spent two seasons as an assistant coach before being promoted to associate head coach on Sept. 1, 2017. In 2019, Gould helped develop two River Hawks en route to earning First-Team All-America East honors, marking the first in program history. In 2018, Gould helped guide UMass Lowell to its first America East playoff appearance in program history. Gould’s man-up offense finished in the top 3 in D1 NCAA twice during his tenure at UML. During his time in Lowell, Gould coached 3 future professional players of the National Lacrosse League (N.L.L). Prior to UMass Lowell, Gould two seasons as assistant coach and Offensive coordinator at Dartmouth College of the Ivy League. Gould guided the Big Green offense to a 10-percent increase in extra-man scoring. During this 2015 season, Dartmouth’s win total improved by three victories, including a double-overtime win over 15th-ranked Harvard. Gould’s collegiate coaching experience began at Bryant University in 2014 as an assistant coach. The Bulldogs won the Northeast Conference Championship and climbed up to No. 11 in national polls. Bryant appeared in NCAA quarterfinals for the first time in program history. Gould graduated from Bentley University in 2010 with a degree in business management and enjoyed an impressive career with the Falcons’ lacrosse program. Gould ranks fifth in program history in assists and eighth in career points. Gould was named New England and Northeast-10 Rookie of the Year as a freshman. The two-time captain and four-time All-New England selection claimed All-America honors in 2010 during his senior season. Gould was selected 39th overall by the Boston Cannons in the 2010 Major League Lacrosse Collegiate Draft. He spent three seasons in the MLL and helped guide the Cannons to the 2011 Major League Lacrosse Championship. Gould and his wife, Taryn, have two children, Kevin III, and Lawson.

Building the program from scratch, Magee quickly established Benedictine as one of the premier programs at the NAIA level. During her tenure, Magee compiled an overall record of 67-15 and was named Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference Coach of the Year five times while her Benedictine squad won four Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference championships. Under her tutelage, she has coached 30 All-KCAC players and seven NAIA All-Americans, including Natalie Wechter, the 2020 NAIA Women’s Lacrosse Player of the Year. Under Magee, Benedictine earned three bids to the NAIA Women’s Lacrosse National Invitational as well as the first-ever NAIA Women’s Lacrosse National Tournament in 2021. In 2019, the Ravens finished the year as NAIA National Invitational Runner-Up while achieving an NAIA national ranking high of #2 in the nation, the program’s highest-ever national ranking. In addition to her coaching duties at Benedictine, Magee also served as head coach for two Kansas City club programs, Fountain City Lacrosse Club and Midwestern Force Lacrosse Club. Prior to her post at Benedictine, Magee served as an assistant coach for three seasons at fellow CCC in-state institution Salve Regina University, where she helped the Seahawks to a pair of CCC Tournament berths. While at Roger Williams, Magee spent four seasons on the Women’s Lacrosse team where she was a four-year starting goalkeeper for the Hawks. She finished her career as the program’s all-time leader in wins (51), save percentage (.574), goals-against average (7.96), and saves (728), record she still holds to this day. She was a three-time All-CCC goalie (two-time first team) and was the NCAA Division III Statistical Leader in Save Percentage in her senior year.

Katie Kline
Assistant Coach
Katie Kline is a 2018 graduate of Salve Regina University where she was the 2018 CCC Senior Scholar-Athlete of the year. She is a two-time All-CCC selection and three-time Academic All-CCC selection. She also became the 11th player in program history to score 100 career goals and set a Salve Regina single-season program record with 93 draw controls.

Dennis Dobbyn
Assistant Coach
Dobbyn returns to the coaching staff at RWU as an Assistant for the Men's Lacrosse Team. Dobbyn graduated from Roger Williams with a BA in Sociology and received his Masters Degree from Goddard College with an MA in Child Development. He played Lacrosse at Siena College in addition to playing with the Boston Lacrosse Club, the Narragansett Lacrosse Club, the GMOL Lacrosse Club, The USA Team Stars which won the Grand Masters Division Championship of the World Lacrosse Games in 2002, and currently for the Team Stars in the Super Grand Masters Tournaments held in Lake Placid, Vail, and Ft. Lauderdale. He has held previous head coaching positions at La Salle Academy from 1969-1980, Roger Williams University from 1985-1992, and Moses Brown School from 1993 to 2004 with an overall record of 258 wins and 147 losses. From 2006-2009 he served as Director of the Moses Brown Goalie Camp and served as Goalie Instructor for the following camps: White Mountain Lacrosse Camp; Wheeler School Lacrosse Camp; Quick Sticks Lacrosse Camp; Rocky Hill School Lacrosse Camp; New England Lacrosse Camp; Run and Shoot Lacrosse Camp; Pomfret School Lacrosse Camp; East Bay Lacrosse Camp; Royal Palms Lacrosse Tourney; Chris Rotelli Camp. Dobbyn has worked as an individual Goalie Coach for middle school and high school goalies. He has spent nine years as a RI Lacrosse Official for High School, College, and Club Level Games...Dobbyn is a member of the New England Lacrosse Hall of Fame, was named Coach of the Year in 1977 and 1999 for the New England Secondary Schools Lacrosse Association and Man of the Year in 2005 by the New England Secondary Schools Lacrosse Association. He also received the Rhode Island Lacrosse Officials Association Distinguished Service Award in 2008. Dennis Dobbyn returns to the coaching staff at RWU as an Assistant for the Men's Lacrosse Team.

Luke Bernasconi '20
Assistant Coach
Bernasconi, a 2020 graduate of Roger Williams University, was a four year member of the men's lacrosse team as a faceoff specialist and midfielder. Her currently sits eighth in program history in faceoff winning percentage at .539 and was a three-time Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) All-Academic selection. Prior to joining Roger Williams, Bernasconi coached youth lacrosse in his hometown of Hanover, Mass. and at the High School level for Rhode Island Lacrosse Club. Bernasconi will oversee the Hawks' faceoff unit and assist with the defense and midfield.
