Esteban Forrer

Head Coach

Head Coach since: 2023 Esteban Forrer was hired to lead the Rollins sailing program on November 30, 2022. He began recruiting in winter of 2023, and took over as head coach in June of 2023.  Forrer has been involved in sailing since the age of seven, traveling to San Diego from his hometown of Tucson, Arizona for training. As a member of the Old Dominion University sailing team, Forrer was named team MVP three times (2014-16), was selected as a Intercollegiate Sailing Association All-American three times (2014-16), and was the MAISA Conference Sportsman of the Year as a senior in 2016. In the classroom, Esteban earned a degree in Maritime and Supply Chain Management, a degree in Finance, and a minor in Criminal Justice.   Forrer began his coaching career during the summer break of his collegiate days at Coronado Yacht Club in San Diego. He also spent time as Race Coach at Wianno Yacht Club (Osterville, Mass.), volunteer coach at the University of Pennsylvania, and has spent the past four years at Jacksonville University.  During his time at JU, Forrer served as the associate head coach for the renowned Dolphins program. Under his guidance, Jacksonville has taken home two Single Handed National Titles, a 3rd place podium finish at Match Race Nationals, a 3rd place podium finish at the Open National Championship, and multiple conference championships. While at JU, he also earned an MBA and a masters in Sports Management.

Dave Herbster

Coach

Dave Herbster, a Rollins Alum, was named Director of the Boathouse during the 2019-20 school year. Previously, he served as the head coach of the Tars' sailing program during the 2018-19 season. Under Herbster's leadership, the 2022-23 women's sailing team earned an eighth-place finish at the SAISA Women's Fleet Race Championship, one of the best finishes at the season-closing regatta in program history. Herbster grew up on the waters of Chesapeake Bay where he sailed with his family. He attended Rollins where he was a fraternity president, student court judge, assistant to the Athletic Director, and often at the Rollins boathouse.  He graduated from Rollins with degrees in Business Administration, and Environmental Studies. After graduation Herbster spent a career with the State of Florida, including ten years on the water operating safely in all sorts of weather and conditions, and another seven as coordinator of watercraft safety for his district. For the past five years, he led development of his district's mentoring program. He is married to fellow Rollins Alum Janice Moore '83.
