Jeff Sokol

Head Coach

Sokol enters his sixth season as head football coach at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in 2016, after helping completely rewrite the college's offensive record book since 2011. Sokol helped Rose-Hulman earn its first conference championship in 25 years in 2013.  Rose-Hulman backed up the championship season with an 8-2 performance in 2015 that marked just the fifth season of eight or wins for Rose-Hulman in nearly 120 seasons of competition.  The 8-2 record was also the best Fightin' Engineer football season since 1988. School records also fell throughout 2014 and 2015, with 54 new school records established over the past two seasons.  The most recent 2015 squad established 17 new school records.  In addition to head coach, Sokol also serves as the team's quarterbacks coach. The team's most memorable win was a historic 74-68 triple overtime victory over Illinois College in 2014.  Rose-Hulman set school records for total offense in a game (824 yards), passing yards in a game (603), touchdown passes (7) and total plays run (114).  The performance was also mentioned on ESPN SportsCenter, including tweets from the official SportsCenter feed that carries over nine million followers. Sokol enters the 2016 season with a career coaching record of 32-18, including a mark of 28-12 in conference play.  He was named 2013 HCAC Coach of the Year by his peers, and leads a program that has completed a school record 11 consecutive seasons with records of .500 or above.  In his five years at Rose-Hulman, Sokol has led the Fightin' Engineers to one HCAC championship (2013) and two conference runner-up finishes (2011 and 2015).  The 2011 team included Sokol leading an offensive unit that featured NCAA Division III all-purpose yardage national champion Kyle Kovach.  The 2012 squad won its last three games to finish 5-5 overall in a competitive season that featured three overtime games in a four-week span and the first triple overtime game in Fightin' Engineer history. Overall Winning Percentage: .640 HCAC Winning Percentage: .700   In 2013, Rose-Hulman won seven of eight conference games to earn a share of the conference championship.  The Fightin' Engineers completed their largest in-game rally since 1988 by turning a 20-0 deficit into a 34-26 victory at Bluffton University.  The 2015 season featured Rose-Hulman's first 6-0 start since 1987 and also marked the first time that the squad has received votes in both NCAA Division III football national polls. Sokol came to Rose-Hulman after spending 11 seasons as offensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator at the University of Chicago, a member of NCAA Division III and the University Athletic Association. The Maroons captured UAA championships in 2000, 2005 and 2010, while recording three runner-up league finishes during his 11 years as coordinator under head coach Dick Maloney.  Sokol's efforts included recruiting planning and coordination at the internationally regarded academic institution.  Chicago established a modern era school record with eight wins in 2010, including victories over Case Western Reserve and Washington University to win the league championship.  Prior to his Chicago experience, Sokol spent one season at fellow UAA member Case Western Reserve University as the recruiting coordinator and defensive backs coach.  He also spent two seasons as a graduate assistant coach at Defiance College and one year as wide receivers coach at Kalamazoo College. Sokol earned a bachelor's degree in economics from Kalamazoo in 1996 and completed a master's degree in education from Defiance in 1999.  He and his wife Alison are the parents of Walter (2) and Teddy (born in Feb. 2016) and reside in Terre Haute.
