Rutgers University - Newark Men's Volleyball

Trevino is in his sixth season leading the Rutgers University-Newark men's volleyball program.  His last two year's have been without-a-doubt two of the most successful in program history as the Scarlet Raiders reached the 'Elite Eight' of the NCAA Tournament, winning one Continental Volleyball Conference (CVC) tournament title, one regular-season CVC title and compiling a staggering overall record of 46-14 (.767). Trevino oversaw the program's transition from NCAA Division I to NCAA Division III and has done so with unprecedented success as the Scarlet Raiders stormed onto the national scene in 2015, earning top rankings from the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) at the end of each of the last two seasons. In 2016, three Scarlet Raiders became AVCA All-Americans in Cody Chidsey, Jack Fredricks and Kevin McCandless, with McCandless earning the Elite 90 award from the NCAA as the student-athlete with the highest GPA at a championship site.  Chidsey was a 2015 AVCA All-American and the CVC Player of the Year, with Trevino pocketing '15 CVC Coach of the Year honors as well. Four players were named All-CVC in 2016 after three players earned the same recognition in 2015, and Rutgers-Newark was consistently featured in the weekly awards from the league and AVCA as well. As coordinator of volleyball operations, Trevino has also managed a tremendous improvement in the Scarlet Raider women's program and is working with first-year Head Coach Megan Knott as they eye an NJAC Tournament berth in 2016. With a deep background in area prep volleyball plus experience as an assistant coach at Kean University (2010-11), Trevino served as head girls' volleyball coach at Summit High School in 2010 and 2011. He helped the school to a 15-9 season in 2010, and then tied the school-wins-record (21) in 2011 while guiding the team to the state Group II South semifinals in both '10 and '11. He also has served as an assistant coach for the boys' volleyball program at St. Joseph's of Metuchen from 2009-2011. Trevino was also the varsity and junior varsity coach at St. Agnes School in Clark from 2006 to 2008. A 2001 graduate of NJIT with a bachelor of science in management and a minor in sports management, Trevino was a four-year starter as setter for some of the Highlanders finest teams (1997-2000).  NJIT piled up a cumulative record of 74-35 during his four seasons while posting milestone victories over Rutgers-Newark, Penn State, Ohio State, George Mason and Princeton. As a freshman, Trevino keyed the Highlanders to a 17-10 record and a runner-up finish in the first NCAA Division III national tournament.  NJIT shocked Division I teams from Ohio State and George Mason to highlight the year. In 1998, NJIT rose to NCAA Division II status in style by posting a 17-8 record as the Highlanders won its first EIVA Tait Conference and EIVA Division II championships. Trevino, who ranked third among EIVA setters, was named to the EIVA Division II All-Tournament Team. A win over perennial Division I national contender Penn State punctuated the season. Trevino and his teammates reached new heights during his junior season by posting a 24-5 mark and their second straight EIVA Division II title. The Highlanders knocked off Princeton and Rutgers-Newark to gain an EIVA Championship tournament berth opposite Penn State. The Nittany Lions prevailed, 3-2, but NJIT claimed the Springfield Hall of Fame Classic championship during the regular season.  Trevino, who ranked among the top 10 nationally in assists average, was named to all-tournament teams at the Hall of Fame Classic and the EIVA Division II Championship. As a senior 2000, Trevino was NJIT's Male Athlete of the Year after setting a new program record for career assists as the Highlanders finished 16-12 capped by an EIVA Championship first-round win over George Mason. The Racine, Wisconsin, native also played men's basketball during his senior season at NJIT. Trevino currently lives in Rahway, N.J. with his beautiful wife and two wonderful children.
