Sacramento City College Women's Volleyball

Nash has compiled a 294-131 overall record (through the 2015 season) with 11 regional playoff appearances representing the Big 8 Conference.   Of the 11 playoff appearances, SCC earned 2 Conference Championships in 2007 and 2009 and has qualified for the CCCAA State Championship Tournament 6x (2002, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009) with the programs highest 3rd place State Finish in 2006. Coach Nash coached the Panthers to a historic school record as well as the 1st State Championship qualifying team with an undefeated 30-0 record in 2009. Prior to the start of her Head Coaching tenure, Coach Laurie (Smith) Nash assisted Debbie Blair at SCC for 5 years. During those 5 years, Sac City College qualified for the CCCAA State Championship Tournament 3x (1995, 1997, 1999). She helped the Panthers to their highest State Championship finish of 4th place in 1999. Before taking the Assistant Coaching job at Sac City College in 1995, Coach Laurie (Smith) Nash assisted Norberto Quiroz at Napa Valley College for 1 season in 1994 and qualified for Regional Playoffs that year. Prior to Napa Valley College, (Smith) Nash coached the Claremont High School Wolfpack for 3 straight years from 1991-1993. While at Claremont, Coach (Smith) Nash guided the Wolfpack to their 1st ever Division 1A High School Section Semifinal Championship match and 2 league titles. Grew up in Grass Valley and attended Nevada Union High School where she was a 2 sport athlete in volleyball and softball Attended American River College and competed for the 1987 and 1988 teams as an All-State Outside Hitter, while earning her AA Degree Received an athletic scholarship to attend and compete for the Lady Broncos at Division 2 Cal Poly Pomona in Southern California - earned a degree in Graphic Design and completed her playing career as an Outside Hitter for the Broncos She then earned a position on the San Bernardino Jazz Indoor Professional Volleyball team in 1993 and started her coaching career with the Poly Juniors Volleyball Club out of Cal Poly Pomona   My coaching philosophy is not a philosophy; it is who I am on a daily basis.  Who I am as a coach is reflected in how I live my life within my work environment, with my family and friends, and how I meet daily challenges; with energy and purpose.  I am a teacher and a coach and I view my role as a leader and my hope is to make a positive difference in your life.  I care about each and every one of you and will prove that daily with respect to how I speak to you, listen to you, and challenge you to be the best that you can be.  You can have complete trust in me that I will always try and make the right decision and will never sacrifice reputation or character for wins.   My favorite quote is You cannot lead others to places you will not go yourself  I believe that in order for your team to believe you must believe! Her hobbies include landscaping, home improvement projects, creating art projects (mosaics, painting, and jewelry making), reading crime novels (finishing the 19th novel of Patricia Cornwells Scarpetta Series). She is married to Michael Nash (since 2000) and they live in Carmichael with their 2 sons Alex (11) and Ryan (8), who both play soccer and baseball.

Bio Michelle (Johnson) Gibson is a former Panther and Sac City Volleyball Alum, where she helped contribute to the team’s third place state finish in 2007 and state tournament appearance in 2008. At Sac City, she was league MVP, first team all-state, two-time first team All-American, and Sac City Athletics Hall of Fame Inductee (2019). Gibson advanced to Fresno Pacific University and was a member of the 2009 and 2010 NAIA National Championship Teams. In 2012 & 2013, she competed in the inaugural seasons of the Professional Volleyball League (PVL) and played for the NorCal Region. Gibson continued her career in Liechtenstein for Club Galina before retiring in 2014. A versatile player, Gibson contributed as an outside hitter, right side and middle blocker throughout her career. Michelle has a passion for mentoring and player development as she brings thirteen years coaching experience at the high school, club, and collegiate level. Her former coaching position was the Associate Head Coach at Fresno Pacific University (2016-2019). Gibson earned a Bachelor of Arts (2013) and Master’s Degree (2021) in Kinesiology from Fresno Pacific University. She and her husband, Garrett, have a two-year-old daughter, Bowie and live in Sacramento.

Bio Caron is an SCC alumni playing from 2020-2023 as a setter/oppo for Coach Nash.  She transferred to Hope International University where she played for 2 seasons and earned a Bachelors Degree in Psychology.  Caron plans on pursuing a Master’s Degree in Child Psychology. Caron has been coaching since 2020 starting at Force Volleyball Club in Elk Grove and continuing coaching for Seal Beach and Proplay clubs in Southern California. This will be Caron’s 1st year as an Assistant Coach for SCC primarily working with setter training. Caron has a passion for helping players grow and improve in their skill and their strategy. Caron, alongside Nash and Gibson, will be emphasizing the importance of a positive hard working team culture.
