Jones begins his 18th year as Salisbury's head coach for men's and women's cross country and track & field in 2016-17. Jones, who joined the staff in July 1999, led the Sea Gulls through another successful campaign in 2015-16. During the 2015-16 season, Jones led the Salisbury men's team to another top-10 finish in the nation, as the Gulls tied for 10th in the NCAA Division III outdoor national championships. Senior Luke Campbell earned two national championships in the meet in the 110- and 400-meter hurdles, while the 4x400-meter relay team earned All-American status. Campbell also won the 60-meter hurdles at the 2016 indoor championships. In all, the team garnered 11 All-American awards during the year, along with 30 All-Capital Athletic Conference honors. The team finished second in the indoor and outdoor conference championships. The women's team finished the indoor season third in the CAC and the outdoor season second in the CAC under Jones' leaderships. Junior Meghan McGowan also earned her second indoor All-American in the high jump on the season. The team combined for 20 All-CAC honors during the year, as well. Jones led the Sea Gulls to another successful year, leading the mens team to a fourth-place finish at the outdoor NCAA Division III championships. The Sea Gulls garnered 13 All-American awards at the championships, while junior Luke Campbell won his sixth and seventh national championships in the 110- and 400-meter hurdles. Campbell also won the 60-meter hurdles championship during the indoor season. Jones led the men to their fourth-straight CAC championships for the indoor and the outdoor seasons, while accumulating 38 total All-CAC awards between the two seasons. Jones led the womens team to second-place finishes at the indoor and outdoor CAC championships, while the Gulls notched 18 All-CAC awards. He coached sophomore Meghan McGowan to her first All-American honor, as she represented the women at the indoor and outdoor national championships. He was honored as the indoor men's Coach of the Year and women's Co-Coach of the Year and the outdoor men's Coach of the Year for the conference for the strong showings. The Sea Gulls had another strong outdoor season in 2014, with the men's team claiming its third-consecutive conference title, while the women's team placed third. The season ended on a high note, with Luke Campbell winning the national championship in the 110-meter and 400-meter hurdles. The Salisbury University men's and women's outdoor track & field teams picked up 32 all-conference members, with Campbell being named the Male Athelete of the Year. Jones was also named the top coach in the conference for the outdoor season. Salisbury won three of four Capital Athletic Conference titles with Jones at the helm in 2012-13. The Sea Gulls earmed two national championships as senior Chelsea Tavik claimed the shot put title and freshman Luke Campbell the 110-meter hurdles, both in the outdoor season. Salisbury swept all four team Capital Athletic Conference championships in the 2011-12 under Jones, including the inaugural indoor championships, held at George Mason University in Fairfax, Va. In outdoor track & field on the women's side, junior Chelsea Tavik, who earned CAC Women's Athlete of the Year, became the second three-time All-American in SU history, finishing second in the shot put. Tavik also claimed Salisbury's first individual national championship by a female student-athlete when she won the shot put at NCAA Championships. The team earned no less than 50 All-CAC honors during outdoor season and another 26 during indoor. In 2011 the womens track and field team won its second consecutive CAC championship and the men finished second to break their seven-year winning streak. The Sea Gulls produced 31 All-CAC performances including 17 individual conference champions. Salisbury has broken several school records, numerous student-athletes have reached the qualifying standards for the NCAA National Championships, 17 have earned All-American status, and five individual were NCAA national champions. Continuing a history of academic success, the 2011 SU mens and women's squads earned All-Academic honors and in 2010 the mens team was named the National Outdoor Scholar Team of the Year from the USTFCCCA. The teams cumulative grade point averages consistently rank among the best in the nation. "Salisbury has an outstanding academic reputation and has a lot to offer students, both academically and athletically," says Jones. "Our goal will be to continue to do well on the conference level while also moving to the next level nationally." Jones served on the NCAA National Track & Field Committee from 2001-2005 and as the committees chair from 2004-2005. A native of Coshocton, Ohio, Jones is a 1991 graduate of the University of Mount Union, where he was a four-year member of both the cross country and track and field teams. He and his wife Amy have a daughter, Hope, and a son, Ethan, and reside in Salisbury. The women's team finished the indoor season third in the CAC and the outdoor season second in the CAC under Jones' leaderships. Salisbury has broken several school records, numerous student-athletes have reached the qualifying standards for the NCAA National Championships, 17 have earned All-American status, and five individual were NCAA national champions. Continuing a history of academic success, the 2011 SU mens and women's squads earned All-Academic honors and in 2010 the mens team was named the National Outdoor Scholar Team of the Year from the USTFCCCA. The teams cumulative grade point averages consistently rank among the best in the nation. "Salisbury has an outstanding academic reputation and has a lot to offer students, both academically and athletically," says Jones. "Our goal will be to continue to do well on the conference level while also moving to the next level nationally." Jones served on the NCAA National Track & Field Committee from 2001-2005 and as the committees chair from 2004-2005. A native of Coshocton, Ohio, Jones is a 1991 graduate of the University of Mount Union, where he was a four-year member of both the cross country and track and field teams.
