Johnny Wiggs

Head Coach

Wiggs Saints players have also made it to the Major Leagues and a total of 25 former Saints that played under Coach Wiggs have played professional baseball. Before coming to Santa Fe College, Wiggs spent seven and a half years as the head coach at Polk Community College. At Polk, Wiggs had a total of 70 players sign with four year schools or sign professionally. Before Polk, he was an assistant at Santa Fe, Jacksonville University and the University of Florida. Two of his pitchers from his Jacksonville squad made their major league debuts in 2004, Juan Padilla with the Yankees and Nick Regilio with the Rangers.  Overall, he has a career record of 516-346 (.599) between Polk and Santa Fe.   Wiggs played his collegiate ball at Valencia Community College before transferring to Santa Fe for his sophomore year. At Santa Fe he compiled a 9-4 record and helped the team to the Junior College State tournament after a second place finish in the Mid-Florida Conference. He then went on to the University of Florida for two seasons where he was finished his UF career with a 23-6 record, and was voted All-Southeastern Conference his junior year. That same year he helped the Gators to the 1988 SEC Championship, East Regional Championship, and their first ever trip to the College World Series. Wiggs played professional baseball for five seasons with the Mariners, Tigers and Red Sox up to AAA. He pitched in a total of 166 games throwing 292 innings. He finished his professional career with 17 wins, 22 saves and an ERA of 3.41. Wiggs completed his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Exercise and Sport Science at UF. He and his wife of 25 years, Wendy, have three daughters, Brittany, 23, Ashley, 20 and Jenna, 17. Updated 6/23/2016

Ryan Pettys

Assistant Coach

Bio Ryan Pettys born in Memphis, Tennessee and raised in Panama City Beach, Florida. Played five years of college baseball at Florida State and Troy University. While at Troy, Pettys played in the 2023 NCAA tournament against Alabama. After his college career was over, he had a brief stint professionally with the New York Boulders of the Frontier League. After pro ball, Pettys began coaching with USA Prime where he served as the pitching coach/assistant for the 16u national team. He brings great pitching and developmental knowledge alongside a great track record of players including Coleman Borthwick (San Diego Padres), Parker Granse (Auburn), Steele Hall (Cincinnati Reds).   “We’re excited to have Ryan apart of our program, and watching him develop our pitching staff. Tripp Kimmel

Assistant Coach

Bio Coach Kimmel begins his second year at Santa Fe College after spending the previous two seasons at Delaware State University. During his time at DSU, Tripp worked with pitchers, catchers, and outfielders, as well as hitters, and coached first base on gameday for the Hornets. In 2023, Tripp worked with St. Louis Cardinals 17th round pick Trey Paige. The Hornets made the NEC tournament in 2024 for the first time and had the NEC player of the year, Evan Bouldin. Tripp began his coaching career in 2022 as an assistant for the Marion Swamp Foxes in the Old North State Collegiate League. Tripp played in 121 games over a 5 year career while receiving his undergraduate degree from Deleware State University and a masters degree in Sport Administration from Coker University in South Carolina. In 2021, he started 37 games for the Hornets as the everyday right fielder and lead the MEAC conference in outfield assists. A true utility player, Tripp started at least one game at every position during his college career except shortstop. Tripp’s career highlight was hitting a grand slam in his last at bat for the Hornets during the 2021 MEAC tournament. Tripp finished his career at Coker University starting 37 games in centerfield for the Cobras.
