Nelsons first eight years, the Trojan mens team has enjoyed great success, finishing 5th at the NJCAA National Championships in 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011, 9th in 2012, 6th in 2013 and 2014, and a program best 4th in 2015. The men held a program best ranking of #1 in NJCAA during most of the 2010-2011 season. In the past eight years, 12 men have earned NJCAA or ITA All-American status and two doubles pairs and two individual singles players have won ITA Fall National Championships. The womens program has also enjoyed great success over the past eight years. The Lady Trojans placed 11th at the NJCAA National Championships in 2008 & 2009, 9th in 2010, 18th in 2011, 11th again in 2013, 16th in 2014, and a program best of 6th place in 2015. Eight women have been named NJCAA or ITA All-Americans since Nelsons arrival in 2007. The Lady Trojans have been ranked a program high of #3 in NJCAA during most of the current 2015-2016 season. Coach Nelson was named the ITA Central Regional Womens Coach of the Year in 2009. This past season, 2014- 2015, he was again named the ITA Central Region Womens Coach of the Year as well as the ITA Central Region Mens Coach of the Year. As of 03/06/2015, Coach Nelson currently holds an overall Mens win/loss record of 147-51 and an overall Womens win/loss record of 97-88, for a total combined overall record of 244-139. Prior to coming to Seminole, Nelson spent four years (2003-2007) as the Assistant Mens and Womens tennis coach at East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma. Both the Tigers and Lady Tigers showed great improvement upon Coach Nelsons arrival. The year before he arrived at ECU, the men went 0-17 in dual matches, while the women went 1-16. Over the next four years, the Tiger men earned two NCAA National Championship selections, while the women earned three. Coach Nelson helped ECU to a 117-93 overall dual match record, also coaching a NCAA D2 All-American female Daria Segenchuk. Nelson played collegiately at Seminole State College (1998-2000) under Head Coach Bill Davis, and at East Central University (2000-2002) under Head Coach Charlie Hibbard. Nelson attended High School at Hugo High School in Hugo, Oklahoma where he graduated in 1998.
