Clint Schneider
Head Coach
Schneider was promoted from associate head coach to head coach of the Clan mens soccer program on February 10, 2015, becoming the fifth head coach in SFU history. He replaced Alan Koch, who left SFU to become head coach of Whitecaps FC 2 (WFC2), the USL PRO team of Vancouver Whitecaps FC. The 2015 season will be Schneiders first as head coach of a university program. Schneider coached alongside Koch for all five seasons the Clan has competed in NCAA, compiling a win-loss-draw record of 85-12-6 with two Final Four appearances in the national championship tournament (2012 and 2013). In Schneiders second season as an assistant to Koch at SFU in 2011, the Clan was unbeaten and ranked No. 1 in the NCAA national polls but the university was ineligible for post-season play. In 2014 the Clan made its third consecutive national post-season tournament appearance but was eliminated in the first round. Schneider has head coaching experience with the Okanagan Challenge in the Pacific Coast Soccer League. In 2009, under Schneiders leadership, the Challenge won the regular season title, the post-season title and the John F. Kennedy Cup. The Kennedy Cup is a tournament between the best British Columbia, Oregon and Washington State men's teams. A native of San Angelo, TX, Schneider holds a NSCAA Advanced National Diploma, a USSF "D" License, a NSCAA Advanced National Goalkeeper Diploma and a CSA Provincial Goalkeeper Diploma. He graduated from Angelo State with a Bachelors degree and obtained his Masters Degree in Liberal Arts from Baker University in 2008. Schneider was a goalkeeper at Midwestern State University in Texas (NCAA D2) from 2001 to 2003 and began his coaching career as an assistant coach at The Darlington School Soccer Academy in Georgia in 2005. He then teamed-up with Koch at Baker University (NAIA) in Kansas from 2007 and 2008, and served as an assistant coach at Southwestern University (NCAA D3) in 2009, before joining SFU. Simon Fraser is Canada's only university competing in NCAA with 17 men's and women's varsity sports and 400 student-athletes who get access to the NCAA athletic experience and a Canadian education.

Kevin Harmse
Head Coach
Entering 2026 season Former Canadian national team member and Major League Soccer star Kevin Harmse is in his first season head coach of the SFU men's soccer program. Harmse, the team's full-time assistant since December 2014, replaced Clint Schneider.. "I'm truly honoured to step into the Head Coach role and grateful for the trust the university has placed in me," said Harmse. "After 11 years at SFU, Men's Soccer and its student-athletes mean a great deal to me. As we close a historic chapter in the NCAA and potential transition into U SPORTS, I look forward to providing continuity, raising our competitive standards, and positioning the program for long-term success." In his role as full-time assistant coach, Harmse led responsibilities in recruiting, tactical development, training methodology, session design, scheduling and team travel. He held build the most profitable camp in the SFU Athletics environment, and the framework for it is now a department-wide model. With Harmse on staff, with SFU, the Red Leafs won four Great Northwest Athletic Conference championships, topping the league and making the NCAA Tournament in 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2023. SFU had an eight-week run as the No. 1 team in NCAA Division II in 2018. The program's overall record since Harmse's arrival on Burnaby Mountain is 106-49-20 for a winning percentage of .663. The Red Leafs went 76-29-12 (.701) in conference games. In that time, SFU had 53 All-GNAC selections as well as 20 honourable mentions, 45 All-West Region picks and 15 NCAA Division II All-America selections. Adam Jones and Matteo Polisi won Div. II CCA West Region Player of the Year recognition in 2016 and 2018, respectively. SFU men's soccer athletes won the following GNAC Awards five times: Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, and Freshman of the Year. The Red Leafs have also won the Newcomer of the Year award three times since 2015. In 2017, Brandon Watson earned the conference's Scholar-Athlete of the Year honour while Mamadi Camara won the GNAC Athlete of the Year award in 2019. That same year, he was chosen by the San Jose Earthquakes in the Major League Soccer (MLS) SuperDraft. Jovan Blagojevic was drafted by Vancouver in 2015. The pair are the only SFU and GNAC players ever picked in the MLS SuperDraft. Before arriving at SFU, Harmse was an Academy Coach with the Vancouver Whitecaps FC, and a talent scout with San Antonio FC, two of his former teams. He was also a volunteer coach with USPSA Power Soccer, providing an inclusive, competitive training environment for athletes with diverse disabilities, such as quadriplegia, muscular dystrophy, arthrogryposis, and cerebral palsy. Harmse also offers professional playing experience from around the world. Born in Johannesburg and raised in the Vancouver area, he played his first professional games as a member of Tromsø IL in 2003 at the highest level in Norway. He returned home to represent the Vancouver Whitecaps of the United Soccer Leagues for two years. After a year with FC Nitra in Slovakia, Harmse, played for MLS teams Los Angeles Galaxy (2007-08), Toronto FC (2008-09) and Vancouver Whitecaps FC (2011). In 2009, he helped TFC win the Canadian Championship. Harmse wrapped up his playing career with San Antonio of the USL, where he competed for two seasons. In international soccer, Harmse began with Canada's Under-15 and U-17 national teams. He then starred for the Canadian Under-20 squad that advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2003 FIFA World Youth Championship, before falling 2-1 in extra time to eventual finalists Spain. Harmse played for Canada's U-23 team before debuting at the senior level for Canada on March 25, 2007 against Bermuda, and made nine appearances for Canada in total, which included the country's run to the semifinals of the 2007 CONCACAF Gold Cup. "We're thrilled for Kevin to take lead of our men's soccer program," said Breanne Watson, Director, Athletics & Business Operations at SFU. "His decade of experience at SFU, combined with his tactical acumen and career as a professional footballer make him the right person to take us into our next chapter."

Kevin Harmse
Assistant Coach
Harmse joined Simon Fraser University as an assistant coach with the mens soccer program in December 2014. Kevin has his USSF National "B" Coaching License. . Harmse played professionally for 12 years and spent time with five different clubs in his MLS career, including three seasons with Whitecaps FC and two seasons with Toronto FC, and he was a member of LA Galaxy during David Beckhams first season in Los Angeles. Harmse last played for Whitecaps FC in 2011. He retired in 2013 due to a persistent knee injury after appearing in 39 games for San Antonio Scorpions. Harmse also played professionally with Tromsø IL in the Norwegian Premier League and with FC Nitra of the Slovakian Superliga. Internationally, Harmse made nine appearances for Canada, including the country's run to the semifinals of the 2007 CONCACAF Gold Cup. The former defender/midfielder also spent time with Canada's U-23 Olympic team. At the U-20 level, Harmse represented Canada at the 2003 FIFA U-20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates, helping his country reach the quarterfinals before falling 2-1 in extra time to eventual finalists Spain. Harmse is a native of Johannesburg, South Africa. He played his youth soccer for Coquitlam Metro Ford and Roman Tulis European Soccer Academy.

Tyler Baldock
Coach
Baldock currently works with the Vancouver Whitecaps Goalkeeper Academy and he joins the Clan as an assistant coach with the mens soccer program for the 2015-16 season. Baldock has also been the Head of Goalkeeping Development for Surrey United F.C for the past several seasons. Professionally, Baldock played for the Vancouver Whitecaps FC in 2007 and 2008 where they went on to win the USL.1 Championship. He also played for the Abbotsford Mariners (United Soccer Leagues) in 2008 and the West Virginia Chaos (Premier Development League) in 2005. Baldock is a graduate of Carson-Newman University in Jefferson City, Tenn. where he earned a degree in Exercise Science. While at Carson-Newman, Baldock backstopped the Eagles to four straight conference championships and two regional championships. He was a three time All-American, All-Region and All-Conference award winner and in 2004 and 2005 he earned back-to-back South Atlantic Conference Player of the Year honours. In addition to his team and individual awards Baldock holds the SAC record for lowest single season goals against average, most career shutouts and best save percentage.
