Birky as head coach of the SAIT Trojans men's basketball team. As a player, Birky split his time on the court at Dakota Wesleyan University in South Dakota and Montana State University Billings. When his playing days were over, he became a graduate assistant coach at Billings, and later an assistant coach with Imperial Valley College in California. During that time, he also worked as a Player Development Specialist with Impact Basketball in Las Vegas, where he provided workouts for NBA and U.S. college basketball players. He has worked alongside NBA stars like Kevin Garnett (Brooklyn Nets), Kyle Lowry (Toronto Raptors), John Wall (Washington Wizards) and the 2014 NBA championship final Most Valuable Player, Kawhi Leonard (San Antonio Spurs).
