Tim Quill

Head Coach

Quill has ensured that success is a constant for one of the strongest programs in the nation. Both the mens and womens squads have risen to new heights over the course of Quills stint. He is a 21-time Northeast-10 Conference Coach of the Year and six-time Metropolitan Conference Coach of the Year. From the team standpoint, Southern Connecticut has won 22 Northeast-10 Championships (2003-08, 2011-16 men; 2003-13, women) and seven Metropolitan Conference championships (2003-06, men; 2005-07, women) during Quills tenure in New Haven. In addition, both squads have posted their best team finishes at the NCAA Division II Championships. The mens team placed seventh in 2002, while the women were ninth in 2010. The womens squad has set a new NCAA best on three occasions under Quills guidance. On the individual front, the accolades have been nothing short of remarkable. Quill has coached a total of 114 NCAA All-America selections (59 men, 55 women). In addition, Ben Michaelson, (three-time NCAA Division II Swimmer of the Year), Kristen Frost (2008 NCAA Division II Swimmer of the Year), Amanda Thomas (two-time NCAA Division II Swimmer of the Year) and Raymond Cswerko have combined to win 19 individual national titles. Furthermore, Quill has coached 19 Conference Championship MVPs, 10 Northeast-10 Freshmen of the Year and 15 NE-10 Swimmers of the Year. Additionally, the Owls have had nearly 450 Northeast-10 individual champions since the formation of the league championship in 2003. Quills swimmers have also rewritten the University and conference record books. Southern Connecticut swimmers have broken nearly 100 university records and seven NCAA Division II records during Quills tenure. Prior to his arrival at Southern Connecticut, Quill coached the Cheshire YMCA (1990-99) to a third place finish at the YMCA National Championships. On the individual front, he coached three YMCA national champions and over 100 YMCA All-Americans. Quill also serves as head coach of the Southern Connecticut (SoNoCo) Swim Club. In that role, he has produced over 100 USA National top 16 performers including Michaelson, the first Southern swimmer to qualify for the U.S. Olympic trials and once ranked among the top 100-meter butterfly performers in the world. Michaelson won two gold medals for the U.S. at the 2003 Pan American Games SoNoCo club member Geoff Rathgeber was a member of the 2007 U.S. Pan American team. Quill, a former member of the USA Swimming National Camps committee, was also a speaker at the American Swim Coaches Association world coaches clinic in 2006 and is on the USA National Team coaches list. He graduated from Alfred University in 1989 with a bachelors degree in business administration and a minor in athletic coaching. He captained the swim team and was a four-time All-America selection. Tim and his wife, Brenda, reside in Woodbridge, Conn. They are the parents of nine-year old twins, Lilianna and Timothy Quill V.

Assistant Coach

Moran is in his third stint  as a member of the Owls staff. Moran previously served as an assistant coach from 2000-01 and then again from 2002-05. Most recently, he served as an assistant coach with the Woodland Regional (Conn.) swimming and diving program. He holds a bachelors degree in social work from SCSU.

Jesse Cyr

Coach

Cyr has resurrected the Owls proud diving tradition. Southern Connecticuts divers have excelled under the tutelage of the former University of Connecticut standout. Since joining the Owls, Cyr has been honored 12 times as the Northeast-10 Diving Coach of the Year (2003-11, 2013-14). In addition, he has coached 15 All-Americans (eight men, seven women) during his time at SCSU. Furthermore, 13 performers have also been named as the Most Outstanding Diver at the Northeast-10 Championships, while 11 divers have taken home Northeast-10 Diver of the Year honors. Cyr has also coached two Northeast-10 Freshmen Divers of the Year. As a collegiate standout, the 1995 UConn graduate was the 1995 New England champion for the Huskies in both the one and three-meter diving events. As a scholastic student-athlete, Cyr was a three-time CIAC Class L champion and 1991 CIAC Open champion. Cyr also has coaching experience with a variety of organizations and has coached numerous high school All-America divers, including 2002 High School national champion Brian Mariano. He also presently coaches the SoNoCo diving club. Cyr resides in Naugatuck, Conn. with his wife, Sarah, and their daughter, Vivian.
