Chris Crenshaw
Head Coach
Chris Crenshaw serves as the 7th Head Coach in Southern University baseball history, officially taking the helm on June 18, 2021. Crenshaw enters his sixth season leading the Jaguars, his 13th season coaching at the Division I level, and his 15th overall season in collegiate coaching. He was instrumental in guiding Southern to a 2019 SWAC Western Division Championship and the 2019 SWAC Tournament Championship, earning the Jaguars a spot in the NCAA Starkville Regional. As Head Coach, he led the Jaguars to another 2022 SWAC Western Division title and the 2021 SWAC Tournament Championship, securing an additional NCAA postseason appearance in the Austin Regional. Coach Crenshaw was also named as a 2024 USA Baseball National Collegiate Team Coaching staff. Before returning to Southern, Coach Crenshaw spent five seasons at Jackson State University and two seasons at Southwest Tennessee Community College, both as an Assistant Coach. At JSU, he served as Recruiting Coordinator and Pitching Coach, helping the Tigers to a highly successful run. He later completed his collegiate playing career at Bethel University, earning a bachelor’s degree in Health and Physical Education in 2013. Baseball runs deep in the Crenshaw family, as his father, Gregory Crenshaw, also played at Southern University continuing a proud Jaguar legacy. Auntwan Riggins
Assistant Coach
Auntwan Riggins enters his first season on the bluff. He brings decades of playing, coaching, and leadership experience to the program as the Hitting and Infield Coach, where he is responsible for overseeing the offense. A Texas native, Riggins attended Crockett High School before graduating from James Madison High School in Houston. Riggins played collegiately at Texas Southern University, where he competed as a shortstop and earned SWAC Newcomer of the Year honors in 1997. He was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in 1998 and went on to play professional baseball as an infielder and outfielder, reaching the Triple A level with the Portland Beavers in 2001. He earned his degree in Administration of Justice from Texas Southern University in 2011 and later built an impressive coaching resume during his tenure at Prairie View A&M University (2015–2025). While at PVAMU, Riggins helped guide the program to a SWAC West Division Championship in 2021 and was named Black College Nines Coach of the Year in 2022, serving as the program’s hitting and infield coach. Riggins holds CPR and ABCA certifications and is known for his developmental approach to offense and infield play. His coaching philosophy centers on growth, accountability, and adaptability, often emphasizing that “your level of growth comes down to how coachable and open you are to learning new things.” Off the field, Riggins enjoys golfing and spending time with his wife, Deveka, and their two daughters, Masyn and Hudsyn.
