In 2015, she saw two of her female runners make the All-NECC First Team with a third making her way to All-NECC Second Team honors. In the spring of 2016, Newton saw the outdoor track & field team make tremendous improvements in its second year of varsity competition with the Mountaineers setting a slew of new program records. She saw two athletes qualify for the DIII New England Championships with one of them also qualifying for the ECAC DIII Championships. In 2014, her mens cross country side dominated the New England Collegiate Conference Championship to capture its first ever league title. Additionally, seven Mountaineers from the mens team and two from the womens squad made their way onto all-conference teams. Newton coached the 2014 NECC Male (Marc Brandmeyer) and Female (Shelby Whitman) Runners of the Year while also seeing the mens team win their home invitational for the first time in team history. Coaches from around the NECC voted her as the 2014 Mens Cross Country Coach of the Year following her teams outstanding performance at the title race. She came back to the SVC campus after assisting the Williams College cross country teams for eight years in conjunction with coaching the local Mount Anthony Union High School indoor and outdoor track & field teams; she will continue to lead the MAUHS teams while coaching at Southern Vermont. In February of 2013, she was named the Vermont Indoor Track Coach of the Year, the second consecutive year in which she had received the award; she was also given the accolade in 2003. The recipient of an Associates in Science degree still holds the Southern Vermont records for 5K and 6K races; she ran a 20:07 5K in 2002 at the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championship and a 24:09 6K in the 2002 NCAA New England Regional Championship. Newton ran for head coach Scott Kilgallon while a Mountaineer, being named to the All-GNAC Team twice with a third-place finish at the conference championship in 2003 and a fourth-place finish in 2002. She accomplished these feats all while not only taking a full course load, but also raising a family. Newtwon earned a certification and membership from the National Federation Interscholastic Coaches Association and is also a certified aerobics instructor by the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America. In 2007, she became a certified USA Track & Field Level 1 track & field coach. This past winter was Newtons eighth season in her second stint as head indoor track coach at MAU (she also headed the Patriots from 2000-04), and this past spring was Newtons 15th year as head coach of the boys and girls outdoor track & field teams. Intermittently, Newton has also provided personal training services for over 20 years around the Bennington area. She was also enrolled at American River College in Sacramento, Calif. where she studied forestry prior to attending Southern Vermont.
