Jason Cash Head Coach, Men’s and Women’s Track & Field – USATF Level I certified coach   Coach Jason Cash has been head coach of men’s and women’s track and field at Southwestern Oregon since the 2018 school year. A faculty member in Health and Physical Education, he brings over 30 years collegiate coaching and teaching experience to Coos Bay. Coaching accolades include 8 school record holders: Carrie Boyum 400m (55.57) at University of Portland, Rashad Toussaint (51’ 61/4”) & Chanel James (39’ 73/4”) Triple Jump at Community Colleges of Spokane, Bryan Terry Shot Put (51’ 11”), Skotlyn Hill 100m Hurdles (14.90), 400m Hurdles (63.67), Heptathlon (3992), and Men’s 4 x 400m Relay (J. Schweim, S. Richard, R. Olney-Miller, J. The Sasquatch men’s and women’s teams were the most dominant in NWAC history during those 16 seasons winning an unprecedented 22 combined conference championships. In addition to the triple jump records above, ten men earned spots on the Spokane all-time top 20 list in the high jump, long jump, and triple jump events, and eight in Decathlon. Sixteen women jumped onto the Top 20 list in those events, and thirteen in the Heptathlon.   From 2000 to 2002, Coach Cash was a graduate assistant coach at NCAA Division III Gustavus Adolphus College, in St. Peter, MN, where he coached the sprints, jumps, and hurdles while working on a master’s degree in sport management. At the 2002 Minnesota Intercollegiate Indoor Championships (MIAC) his female high jumpers placed first and second. That spring, his indoor champion, Lindsey Weis, won the outdoor championship as well. Cash also coached the 2002 Gustavus men’s 4 x 100m relay team to a 3rd place finish at the NCAA Division III National Championships.   Prior to his move to Minnesota, Coach Cash was the sprints, jumps, and hurdles coach at the University of Portland from 1995 to 2000. During his tenure, Carrie Boyum set the 400-meter school record (1998), and three women earned top 10 all-time spots in 100m, 200m, and 400m.   During his college days, Coach Cash competed in the sprints and high jump. He earned a varsity letter award as a freshman at the University of Portland. That next year, he transferred to Western Oregon State College (WOU) and was a two-time NAIA All-American in the 4 x 100-meter relay with a 4th place in 1993 and a 6th place in 1994 at the NAIA National Championships. The 1993 team set the school record of 41.40 at University of Puget Sound where it continues to stand as the stadium record.   Coach Cash is an Oregon native, growing up in Salem (McNary High School), and competing in football, basketball, wrestling, and track & field. He is engaged to Southwestern head Women’s Soccer coach, Emma Meyer. They have 2 cats and a dog.
