Jason Cash

Head Coach

Cash Head Coach, Mens and Womens Track & Field USATF Level I certified coach Jason is in his 4th year as mens and womens head coach of track and field. For nine years he was an assistant coach under Larry Beatty, primarily as the CCS jumps coach, also assisting with multi-events and sprints. In 2011, Jason was named Head Coach of both the mens and womens programs, replacing Coach Beatty, the most successful coach in NWAC championships history. In his first season, Jasons womens team won a 9th consecutive NWAC Championship and the men won their 8th consecutive title. Jason was named NWAC Mens Coach of the Year in recognition of those accomplishments. Since then the men and women have continued to be one of the top collegiate programs in the northwest and in the conference with the 2013 and 2014 mens teams placing 2nd in the conference championships. In 2013, the Spokane mens team included 5 of the top 10 scorers in the conference meet. The 2013 womens team placed 3rd, but rebounded in 2014 with a 2nd place trophy. Jason was again recognized as conference Coach of the Year, this time for the womens team. In 12 seasons with the Sasquatch, Jason has coached 26 NWAC Champions and 63 NWAC All-Americans in the jumps and multi-events. Eight men have made the Top 20 list at CCS in the jump events during his tenure including the triple jump record by Rashad Toussaint (51 6¼). Fourteen women jumped onto the Top 20 list in jumps which includes Chanel James triple jump record (39 7¾). Jason has coached 6 conference champions in multi-events, including 2-time champion Shayle Dezellem. From 2000 to 2002, Jason was a graduate assistant at Gustavus Adolphus College, in St. Peter, MN, where he coached the sprints, jumps, and hurdles while working on a masters degree in sports management. At the 2002 Minnesota Intercollegiate Indoor Championships his female high jumpers placed first and second. That spring, his indoor champion, Lindsey Weis, won the outdoor championship as well. Jason also helped coach the 2002 mens 4 x 100m relay team to a 3rd place finish at the NCAA Division III National Championships. Prior to his move to Minnesota, Jason was the sprints, jumps, and hurdles coach at the University of Portland from 1995 to 2000 where Carrie Boyum set the 400 meter school-record (55.57), which she holds to this day. During his college days, Jason competed in the sprints and high jump. He earned a varsity letter award as a freshman at the University of Portland. That next year Jason transferred to Western Oregon State College and was a two-time NAIA All-American in the 4 x 100 meter relay with a 4th place 1993 finish and 6th place 1994 finish at the NAIA National Championships. The 1993 team set the school record of 41.40 which stood for 6 years. Jason is engaged to Melissa Brady and the two will be married July of this year.

James Berry

Coach

Berry has already coached 25 All-Americans and has been an integral part of the success at CCS as both an athlete and coach.  The men won a record ninth consecutive NWAACC title in 2009 with Coach Berrys help and in the process recorded five All-American awards.  Coach Berrys knowledge and love of distance running and track and field is immense.  Before CCS James was assistant coach at Central Valley High School in Spokane from 2001-2005 and then head coach from 2006-2008.  In 2006 his team was ranked 21st in the nation and finished third at the 4A state meet behind the first and second ranked teams in the country.  In 2007 they backed up their third place finish with a fourth place finish at the 4A state meet, these two teams are the only ones to trophy at state for Central Valley in Cross Country.  Coach Berry ran at University High School in Spokane for legendary coach Bob Barbero (CCS Alumni).  As an athlete for Spokane, Coach Berry was a part of two NWAACC XC team titles and two NWAACC track titles, he was a two time XC All American and boasts PRs of 25:03 for 8k XC, 9:19 in the steeple chase, 14:26 road 5k, and 30:56 10k.
