St. Francis College Men's Water Polo

Zagoruiko has been named the Head Coach of the St. Francis Brooklyn Men's Water Polo Team, it was announced today by Terriers' Director of Athletics .  Zagoruiko will replace Srdjan Mihaljevic, who resigned from his post at the conclusion of the 2015 campaign. "We are extremely fortunate to have Igor join our family," said Garcia.  "Igor has experienced the highest levels of water polo, both as a player and coach. I'm confident that our current and future student-athletes will be able to learn a great deal from him and that our program will continue to be extremely successful in the classroom and in the pool." Zagoruiko, a former member of the Kazakhstan National Team, played in the 2000 and 2004 Summer Olympics for his native country.  His team also won the gold medal in the 1994 and 1998 Asian Games and took the bronze in the 1995 World Military Games. He contributed as an assistant coach of the Kazakhstan National Team in 2004 through 2007 and aided in all aspects of team preparation for international competition.  Zagoruiko was also an assistant coach/player for two club programs, Penguins Hammersmith WC 2001-2002 and IYIK, Istanbul Swimming & Water Polo Club 1994-1998. Hammersmith WC won the British Championship in 2002 and IYIK won the Turkish Championship in 1998. Zagoruiko came to New York in 2007 and began working as in Aquatic Department at Asphalt Green in Manhattan, where he's still employed as Site Aquatic Manager.   In addition, Zagoruiko is currently the Swim Coach for the Roosevelt Island Marlins Swim Team and has held that position since October of 2008.  Zagoruiko also served as the Shorefront YM-YWHA Aquatic Director/Head Swim Coach in Coney Island from 2009 through 2011. Zagoruiko earned a BS in Physical Education from Institute of Physical Education, Kazakhstan, Almaty in 1993.  He also earned his certification in Physical Education from the N.Y. State Department of Education. "It's an honor for me to become a part of the St. Francis Water Polo Program," Zagoruiko said. "This year we have a few freshmen that earned a spot on the team and I strongly believe that they will help us to reach our goals. It will be a big challenge to reach the top four in the upcoming season, but it is our goal. We also have plans to build strong fundamentals and continue developing an unwavering commitment to the team," he added. Igor resides in Queens, NY with his wife Yana and son Ivan.
