Augy Jones

Head Coach

Jones played five years with the StFX X-Men from 1986-1991. He was a 1991 AUS all-star and AUS James Bayer award winner (top student-athlete). He was named team captain of the X-Men and was also a CIS academic all-Canadian. Prior to his StFX debut, he played for Bob Douglas at Queen Elizabeth High School in Halifax, this after playing his early basketball at the community YMCA. While at StFX he played for the Canadian junior national team (1989) and captained the gold medal winning Nova Scotia Canada Games team (1987). Along with his 1990 Bachelor of Arts undergraduate degree from StFX, Jones also received his Bachelor (1991) and Master of Education (2001) degrees from the Antigonish university.  A national coaching certification program level two coach, Jones has also lent his coaching services to various Basketball Nova Scotia provincial squads, including the U14 boys provincial team in 2010, and regional training center HRM head coach in 2009 (U14) and 2008 (U15). In 2010 he was named the head coach of the Nova Scotia boys Canada Games team, and he has instructed at numerous basketball summer camps over the past two decades. Jones has international coaching experience as the head coach for the Bahamas Baptist Community College for the 2005-06 season, in addition to time spent in St. Lucia as the head coach of the VideBoutielle Secondary School from 1992-96, and assistant coach for the St. Lucian national team from 1992-94. Augy went on to play two years with the St. Lucian national team from 1994-96 where he was the 1995 national player of the year.  Augy has two young sons, Nyah and Cadence.  He hopes to build the X-Women program using both teaching and coaching principles.

Katie Upham

Head Coach

Bio Katie Upham assumed Interim Head Coach duties in January, 2026 after having been the Lead Assistant Coach in her second season with the X-Women coaching staff. The native of North River, NS and former Calgary Dino and StFX X-Women point guard has established herself as one of the top young coaches in the Maritimes. During her final three seasons with the Dinos, Katie helped lead the program to two U SPORTS Final 8 appearances and amassed the second most wins in a three-year stretch in program history. She was the 2022-23 X-Women Basketball team MVP and holds the program record for most assists in a single game. As part of her 2024-25 U SPORTS Female Coaching Apprentice Program, Katie was able to spend a week observing the Utah Jazz (NBA) and University of Utah women’s basketball program. She spent the 2025 off-season as the head coach of the U13 Halifax Thunder and has been a consistent presence at the Annual 4AM camp. Katie holds a Kinesiology degree from the University of Calgary and an Education degree from StFX. She has a keen interest in athletic development, which she pursued with an internship with the NHL’s Calgary Flames before working at Winsport Calgary as a strength and conditioning coach. Known for her commitment to building cultures rooted in respect and commitment, Katie brings a strong background in player development and mentorship to the X-Women.
