Head Coach

Roiger Head Women's Basketball Coach Dan Roiger joined the St. Lawrence University athletic department as the head women's basketball coach in the summer of 2009. In his seven years at the helm of the program, he has led his team to a Liberty League Tournament Championship and an NCAA appearance, three regular season titles and a pair of runner-up finishes. Roiger and the Saints have compiled an overall record of 132-52 (.717) since his arrival, with a 79-25 record in the Liberty League. They are the only team to make the playoffs all seven seasons and have the best record of the conference opponents over that span. In 2015-16, the Saints advanced to another Liberty League Tournament with a fourth place finish in the regular season standings and were led by First-Team All-League point guard Lauren Quattrocchi. The senior finished the season ranked among the top-10 players in the country in assists, assists per game and assist-to-turnover ratio. The Saints put together another 20-win season in 2014-15 finishing at 20-7 including a 13-3 mark in Liberty League play and advancing to the championship game of the Liberty League Tournament before losing in double overtime. The team, led by the Liberty League Offensive Player of the Year Kara McDuffee and the Leagues Defensive Player of the Year Allison Cady, put together a nine-game win streak through most of January and early February. Roiger led a young Saints' squad to the Liberty League tournament crown in the 2012-13 season, as well as the automatic NCAA bid.  The Saints finished the season with a 19-9 record, 11-5 in the conference.  In 2011-12, Roiger was named the Liberty League Coach of the Year as he guided his team to a perfect 16-0 record in the league, the first in its history, with an overall record of 21-5.  He again earned Coaching Staff of the Year honors in 2013-14 after his team won the regular season crown with a 14-2 record. At St. Lawrence, Roiger has coached one All-American, an All-Region player, 17 All-Conference players, four All-Conference Rookie team players, one Offensive Player of the Year and two Defensive Players of the Year. Additionally, 33 players have been named to the Liberty League All-Academic team as he continues to recruit outstanding student-athletes who also make a difference on the court. Prior to joining the St. Lawrence staff, Roiger was the head coach at Northland College (WI) for five years where he led his team to the playoffs four times and won one regular season championship and one tournament championship. Named the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference Coach of the Year in 2007 and 2009, he led his 2008-09 team to 19 wins, the most in the program's history as an NCAA school. Among the numerous All-Conference players at Northland, he also coached a Player of the Year and two Freshmen of the Year. His teams also excelled in the classroom, earning a National Top 25 Academic Award from the Women's Basketball Coaches Association. He was an assistant coach at Carleton College (MN) for five years prior to Northland. Roiger teaches within the Sports Studies and Exercise Science program and is involved in the campus community on three committees.  In addition to his responsibilities with game management throughout the year, he also provides individual basketball workouts for high school level athletes.  Those interested can contact him through e-mail. A graduate of the University of Wisconsin at Madison, Roiger earned his master's degree at Madison and also earned a BA in education from Mankato State University. He resides in Canton with his wife, Shelly Roiger, who is the Saints volleyball head coach, and their three boys, Joey, Sam, and Zadok. 8/18/16
