Scott Nesbit

Head Coach

Nesbit is in his 27th year of full-time work at St. Olaf College in 2016-17. He is the men's and women's tennis coach and teaches in the exercise science department. Nesbit also serves as the faculty advisor for the St. Olaf FCO (Fellowship of Christian Oles) group.   Prior to his time at St. Olaf, Nesbit and his wife lived in the Chicago area. He was the women's tennis coach at Wheaton College and the men's coach at North Central College. Scott received a master's degree in physical education from the University of Illinois at Chicago. He was the assistant women's coach at UIC for two years when he was a graduate student. In addition, Nesbit taught at various tennis clubs as a USPTA (United States Professional Teacher's Association) tennis teaching professional. He taught at DuPage Racquet Club, Hinsdale Racquet Club, Oakbrook Tennis Club and Butterfield Country Club.   Nesbit also had a stint as a high school history teacher and tennis and soccer coach for four years.   Nesbit did his undergraduate studies at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. He graduated in 1979 in History (secondary education) and had a coaching minor. While at UWEC, Scott played four years on the tennis team. He was selected to the NAIA Academic All-American team in 1978. He was also chosen as UWEC's Scholar Athlete of the Year. Nesbit was inducted into the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's Athletic Hall of Fame.   Nesbit attended Edina East High School. He was a member of two Minnesota state tennis championship teams (1973, 1975). Along with his partner, Billy Arnold, he won the Minnesota state doubles championship in 1975.   Nesbit has also played in USTA (United States Tennis Association) tournaments and leagues for approximately forty years. He has been ranked in the junior and adult age groups. Currently he plays on a USTA 55-and-over adult summer league. His teams have qualified for national competition three times.   Scott is married to Elaine and has two daughters, Kate and Stina. Kate is a 2012 graduate of St. Olaf and Stina is a senior in 2014-15.

Joey Kronzer

Head Coach

Joey Kronzer '16 is in his third season as the head coach for the St. Olaf men's and women's tennis teams in 2025-26 after being promoted from assistant coach on July 12, 2023. In two seasons, Kronzer has guided the women's program to a 24-11 (.686) overall record and a 12-8 (.600) mark in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) and the men's program to a 13-20 (.394) overall record and a 9-9 (.500) mark in conference play. After not making the MIAC Playoffs since 2015, the St. Olaf men have qualified for the postseason in both of Kronzer's seasons, while the women made the field in 2024-25 after missing out on a tiebreaker the year before. The men's team picked up its first playoff victory since 2014 with a 4-2 quarterfinal win over Concordia-Moorhead on April 29, 2025. In Kronzer's two seasons, the women's program has produced four All-MIAC singles players, five All-MIAC doubles players, 1 MIAC All-Playoff Team honoree, eight Academic All-MIAC selections, and 13 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District honorees. The men's program has had one MIAC Rookie of the Year, five All-MIAC singles players, four All-MIAC doubles players, two MIAC All-Playoff Team honorees, 10 Academic All-MIAC choices, and seven CSC Academic All-District honorees. Prior to his promotion, Kronzer spent three seasons as an assistant coach for both programs, working alongside Scott Nesbit and Chris Kuna. During Kronzer’s three years as an assistant coach, the St. Olaf women’s program posted a combined record of 22-20 (.523) overall, including a mark of 16-13 (.552) in MIAC play, and qualified for the MIAC Playoffs in all three seasons. The Oles advanced to the semifinals of the six-team tournament in both 2020-21 and 2022-23. The St. Olaf men’s program won at least six matches and recorded at least three MIAC victories in each of Kronzer’s three seasons as an assistant. Prior to his time at St. Olaf, Kronzer spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Hamline University (2017-19) and one season on the staff at the University of St. Thomas (2019-20). As a student-athlete at St. Olaf, Kronzer was an All-MIAC selection in both singles and doubles in each of his final three seasons and helped the Oles qualify for the MIAC Playoffs three times, including runs to the championship match in 2013-14 and the semifinals in 2014-15. Kronzer graduated from St. Olaf in 2016 with a bachelor of arts in psychology and went on to earn his master of science in kinesiology, sport and exercise psychology from the University of Minnesota in 2020. Nick Hupton

Assistant Coach

Nick Hupton is in his fifth season as an assistant coach for the St. Olaf men's tennis program in 2023-24. Hupton played tennis at Gustavus Adolphus College from 1995-99, earning all-conference recognition in 1998 and 1999. He was also a finalist for the regional Arthur Ashe Award in 1999. Hupton also was the head varsity girls' tennis coach for Bloomington Jefferson High School from 2002-12 and the head boys' varsity coach from 2004-14. During his time at Bloomington Jefferson, he was twice named the Section 3AA Coach of the Year. Along with his assistant coaching duties at St. Olaf, Hupton currently serves as an assistant coach for the Bloomington Jefferson girls' program and coaches the Northfield United States Tennis Association (USTA) Junior Team Tennis program in the summer.

Dave Olson

Assistant Coach

Dave Olson is in his 19th season as an assistant coach for the men's tennis program at St. Olaf in 2023-24. Olson has been part of a coaching staff that helped the Oles to eighth-straight berths in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Playoffs from 2008-15. In 2009 and 2014, St. Olaf advanced to the championship match of the postseason team tournament as the No. 4 seed. A 1992 graduate of St. Olaf, Olson played tennis for the Oles in 1988-89. He resides in Northfield with his family.
