Lauren Henkel
Assistant Coach
Henkel spent six seasons as a member of the NYU Mens and Womens Cross Country and Track & Field coaching staff (2004-2011). An assistant coach with the womens team from 2004-06 and the mens team from 2006-07, she served as an assistant coach for both teams from 2007-08, 2009-11. A USATF Level I Coach Henkel has experience with almost every event in Track & Field. Considered one of the most accomplished athletes in New York University history, Henkel was inducted into the NYU Athletics Hall of Fame in 2010. Henkel was a four-year member of the Violets womens track & field team. She earned NCAA All-America honors in the high jump three times and was also an NCAA DIII National Championship qualifier in the 400m. Henkel established 11 NYU individual and relay records, and was a nine-time University Athletic Association (UAA) champion in a variety of events also setting two UAA records (Indoor & Outdoor 400m). Henkels versatility and excellence as an athlete extended beyond the track, as she also earned All-America and All-UAA honors as a member of the Violets womens soccer team, graduating as NYUs all time goal and point scorer. A 2004 graduate of NYUs Steinhardt School of Education with a Bachelor of Science degree in Studio Art, Henkel also earned many academic awards. She received the NYU Presidents Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award, the Varsity Club Freshman Athlete of the Year Award, the Dan Quilty/NIT Scholar-Athlete Award, the New York State Womens Collegiate Athletic Association Scholar-Athlete Award, and the NYU Alumni Association Student-Athlete of the Year Award. Henkel also received the Ida Bodman Service Award for her work in the community. Henkel earned a Master of Science degree in Sports Business from NYUs School of Professional Studies (10), and then a Credit Certificate in Performance Athletic Footwear from the Fashion Institute of Technology (14). Currently Henkel runs for the New York Athletic Club. A 2015 USATF Indoor National Qualifier (600m) and member of the Millrose Games Club DMR Championship relay team, Henkel is training under the tutelage of legendary Coach Frank Gags Gagliano. A lifelong Islander, Henkel resides in Rockville Centre, NY.

Lorne Marcus
Assistant Coach
Marcus has been in charge of the team, as the Head Coach, where he has won an East Coast Conference Championship and a Coach of the Year Award in the Spring of 2013. In the time that Lorne has been at the helm of the Spartans, he has had over 40 All-Conference members, 6 All-Region selections, 4 athletes ranked in the top 25 in the nation in there event, as well as having 2 All-Americans. Coach Marcus has also had two Conference Runners of the Year; George Erazo and Winslow Dorsainvil. Marcus, on the Academic Side of the ledger, has had his Women's Track athletes named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team in every season since the 2011-2012 year. The Men have also received the award twice as well. In addition, athlete Chris Muniz was recognized for an individual All-Academic award by the USTFCCCA for qualifying for the National Event and having over a 3.2 Grade Point Average. In addition to all of his administrative and coaching duties at STAC, Coach Marcus has been an adjunct professor at St. Thomas Aquinas College for the past 8 years, teaching in the Sports Management Program and the Criminal Justice Extension Program for the College at United States Military Academy at West Point. Marcus also teaches within the county at nearby Dominican College and Rockland Community College. Before arriving at St. Thomas Aquinas College, Lorne worked in the legal field in Florida before returning to his native New York. Marcus has a Juris Doctorate in Law and an M.S. in Sports Administration from St. Thomas University in Miami Gardens, Florida. Prior to his time in the Sunshine State, Coach Marcus participated in one year of Football and four years of Track & Field at SUNY Cortland, where he graduated with a B.A. in Political Science.
