Michael Eskind
Assistant Coach
Eskind, including Darian Brooks, the first three-time Pac-12 men's triple jump champion since 1960, and Harrison Williams, an Olympic Trials decathlon qualifier as a sophomore in 2016 and three-time NCAA top-five multi-event finisher. Also, pole vaulter Dylan Duvio placed third in the 2015 NCAA Outdoor Championships and was ninth in the U.S. Championships the same year, with a best of 18-2 1/2. He was the Pac-12 runner-up in 2016. The emergence of Williams has been huge. In his second collegiate decathlon, Williams broke Stanford's oldest record, the 63-year-old mark set by Bob Mathias while winning the gold medal and setting a world record at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics. Williams went on to finish fourth at the NCAA Championships and repeated as U.S. junior champion while breaking the U.S. junior record. Remarkably, Williams set personal records in each of his first 12 multi-event competitions under Eskind, culminating with his fourth school decathlon record, of 8,032 points -- the highest fifth-place score in NCAA Championships history -- in 2016. Eskind also has created a strong pole vault group among men and women. The men's team featured three vaulters -- Duvio, Williams, and Garrett Starkey -- over 17-3 in 2016, and the women's team has great depth. Eight of Eskind's athletes advanced to the 2016 NCAA West Prelims, including four horizontal jumpers and high jumper Dartis Willis II (7-2 1/4). In all, 19 of Eskind's athletes established themselves in the Cardinal all-time indoor and outdoor top-10 performers' lists, including four additions in 2016. Eskind came to Stanford from Virginia, where he served in the same role for four seasons. He coached Cavaliers to four Atlantic Coast Conference individual championships, four school records, and five NCAA meet appearances. Among them was Marcus Robinson, later a Stanford volunteer assistant, who set an ACC indoor triple jump record and became Virginia's first All-America in the men's jumps in 35 years. Eskind also worked with two of the top female triple jumpers in the country, each winning U.S. Olympic trials championships: Shani Marks in 2008 and Amanda Smock in 2012. Eskind was a decathlete at Wake Forest, where he graduated in 2003 with degrees in political science and education. He earned his master's in exercise and sport sciences with a focus in athletic administration in 2005 from University of Florida, where he began his coaching career as a volunteer assistant. Eskind was an assistant at Boston University for two seasons, designing training plans for athletes in the sprints, vertical jumps, throws, and multi-events.

John Oliver
Assistant Coach
Oliver's first season, the Cardinal men won the 2013 NCAA West Region cross-country title and Jim Rosa earned his first All-America honor by placing fifth at nationals. Rosa was the top American-born runner at the NCAA Championships after finishing second at both the Pac-12 and West Region races. In the 2014 track season, Stanford had men in every non-barrier distance final at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. In 2015, McGorty earned first-team All-America honors in the outdoor 5,000. During the 2014 indoor season, the Cardinal captured the NCAA men's distance medley relay with the team of Marco Bertolotti, Steven Solomon, Luke Lefebure, and Michael Atchoo. After the 2013-14 season, Stanford's combined cross country, and indoor and outdoor teams were rated as the No. 7 overall men's program in the country. In the 2013 track season, Oliver helped coach Atchoo, Erik Olson, and Tyler Stutzman to All-America honors. Atchoo broke the Stanford indoor mile record and anchored the distance medley relay team to a school record. Stutzman was fourth in the NCAA indoor mile and Olson was an NCAA outdoor finalist in the 5,000 meters. Besides coaching, Oliver assists with other aspects of the cross country and track programs, such as recruiting and equipment needs. Oliver came from Syracuse, where he was assistant for three seasons while serving in much of the same capacity. He also was the director of operations for the Orange for two seasons.
