Bobby Hurley
Head Coach
Bobby Hurley is in his 18th season as the head coach of the Stevens Institute of Technology men's basketball program. Entering the 2025-26 season, Hurley has a 284-152 overall record at the head coach of the Ducks. During the 2021-22 season, Hurley led the Ducks to their deepest NCAA Tournament run since 2007, winning a game and reaching the second round. After a 16-win season in 2018-19, Hurley set the program record for most wins in a career on January 4, 2019 with a win over Elmira. Hurley has led the Ducks to three NCAA Tournament appearances in 2012-13, 2019-20, 2021-22, and 2023-24. Took down No. 11 Mount Union in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in 2021-22 after winning the MAC Freedom Tournament for the second time in program history Led Stevens to their first-ever conference tournament title in 2019-20 as they captured the 2019-20 MAC Freedom Tournament crown Helped Spencer Cook become the first All-American in program history in 2019-20 Matched the program record for wins in a season with 23 in 2019-20 Helped the Ducks to the Empire 8 Conference Tournament in nine of his 11 seasons as a part of the conference Coached Stevens to the Empire 8 Tournament Championship game twice, in 2012-13 and 2016-17 Produced three consecutive 20-win seasons from 2010-13, the longest stretch of such seasons in school history Earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Championship for the second time in program history in 2012-13 Led the Ducks to at least the quarterfinals of the ECAC Tournament five times, including taking home the title in 2011 Helped Simon Smith become the first player in program history to reach 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds in his career Was a part of the coaching staff which took the Ducks to the NCAA Round of 16 in the 2006-07 season Coached Waleed Farid in the 2007-08 season and helped him become the NJHoops.com Player of the Year Was elevated from assistant coach to associate head coach prior to the 2007-08 season Served as the Assistant Director of Campus Recreation for the 2007-08 school year Helped the Ducks win the ECAC Metro Tournament in 2007-08 Four-year starter for the Red Hawks men’s basketball program Was selected as a Verizon Academic All-American in 2001 All-Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association honorable mention selection in 2000 and 2001 Appeared in a then school record 107 games and made a total of 85 starts Named a team captain and earned team MVP status in his senior season Finished his career with 767 points, 316 assists and 155 steals Earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Management in Technology in 2001 Achieved his Master’s degree in Coaching and Athletic Administration from Concordia University California in 2019 Worked as the Assistant Director of Instructional Programming with Hoop Group, one of the largest basketball instructional organizations in the country, from March 2002 - July 2003 Served as the director of the Pocono Invitational Basketball Camp in Pennsylvania and directed the Get Ahead Sports men’s summer basketball league in Hoboken during the summers of 2007 and 2008
