Charles Papendick

Head Coach

Charles Papendick was named the head men’s golf coach in 2017 and is in his ninth year at the helm in 2025-26.  Papendick became the program's all-time leader in tournament victories just four years into his tenure on Castle Point. Papendick led the Ducks to their fifth straight MAC Freedom championship and NCAA Tournament appearance in the 2024-25 season while earning conference Coach of the Year honors for the fifth straight season in the process. The team finished in 35th place at the NCAA Tournament, a fifth straight Top 40 finish. In the 2020-21 season, Papendick was named the MAC Coach of the Year after leading Stevens to the Middle Atlantic Conference Championship and an NCAA Championship appearance for the first time in program history. Additionally, Papendick led the Ducks to back-to-back third place finishes in the Empire 8 Championships in his first two seasons. 2024-25: 35th Place 2023-24: 40th Place 2022-23: 25th Place 2021-22: 35th Place 2020-21: 30th Place* * – First NCAA Tournament appearance in program history 2024-25: MAC Freedom Champions 2024-25: Coach of the Year 2024-25: Ben Slicker - Golfer of the Year 2023-24: MAC Freedom Champions 2023-24: Coach of the Year 2023-24: Maxime Debets - Rookie of the Year 2022-23: MAC Freedom Champions 2022-23: Gus Vickers – Golfer of the Year 2022-23: Austin Liao – Rookie of the Year 2022-23: Coach of the Year 2021-22: MAC Freedom Champions 2021-22: Coach of the Year 2020-21: MAC Freedom Champions* 2021-22: Gus Vickers – Golfer of the Year 2020-21: Vincent Cortese – Golfer of the Year 2020-21: Eegan McDermott – Rookie of the Year 2020-21: Coach of the Year * – First conference championship in program history 2018-19: Jack Doherty – Second Team All-Conference  2017-18: Jack Doherty – First Team All-Conference  2017-18: Vincent Cortese – Second Team All-Conference  Has won five straight MAC Freedom Championships and appeared in five straight NCAA Tournament Appearances Led the Ducks to the MAC Freedom Championship and the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history in 2020-21 Earned MAC Coach of the Year honors in 2020-21 for the first time in his career Holds the program record for tournament victories in his career Helped the Ducks win a program-record three tournaments in the 2018-19 season and followed it up with two tournament wins in the pandemic-shortened 2019-20 academic year Set a school-record four-round score of 1,255 in the 2018-19 Empire 8 Championship  Led Stevens to a third place finish in the Empire 8 Championship both the 2018-19 and 2017-18 Empire 8 Championships 2024-25 GCAA Presidents Special Recognition Award 2023-24 GCAA Presidents Special Recognition Award 2022-23 GCAA Presidents Special Recognition Award 2021-22 GCAA President's Special Recognition Award 2020-21 GCAA President's Special Recognition Award 2019-20 GCAA President's Special Recognition Award 22 Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars/Cobalt Golf All-America Scholars: 2024-25: Sebastian Beaver 2024-25: Maxime Debets 2024-25: Ben Slicker 2023-24: Gus Vickers 2023-24: Austin Liao 2023-24: Brock Dickson 2023-24: Maxime Debets 2023-24: Sebastian Beaver 2022-23: Eegan McDermott 2022-23: Gus Vickers 2022-23: Miles Philion 2021-22: A.J. Joe Stahley

Assistant Coach

Stahley enters his 13th year as the head coach of the Stevens Institute of Technology mens golf team in 2016-17, coming off a season in which the teams scoring average improved for the seventh consecutive season.    Stahleys plan to build a long term sustainable and successful golf program includes recruiting prospective student-athletes who can meet Stevens academic admission standards, and whove established a record of good results in junior golf tournaments. In addition, the Stevens golf program features a very strong tournament schedule, instruction from a teaching professional, and an outstanding strength and conditioning program. Under Stahleys leadership, the Stevens golf program enjoyed its most successful season in 2015-16 in a season that saw multiple individual and team records fall. The Ducks capped their season in April by completing a 1,282 during the four-day Empire 8 Championship, the lowest score in program history. Frank Szucs and Jack Doherty were each named First Team All-Conference, while Doherty was named Empire 8 Rookie of the Year.   The 2014-15 season saw Cameron Hill make program history with a second place finish at the Empire 8 Conference Championship, after leading through the first three rounds. As a team, the Ducks placed fourth to give them their second highest finish in program history.   The finish came on the heels of a third place finish in 2014 where Frank Szucs paced the Ducks with a 309 to put him in a tie for sixth overall, and give him, at the time, the highest finish for a Stevens golfer in the championship. Additionally, the teams regional and national ranking were also the best in team history, and the team achieved a 3.45 GPA during the 2013-14 academic year. Stevens is an outstanding opportunity for an academically focused student and accomplished golfer who seeks an excellent education while playing and enjoying college golf.    In June 2013, Coach Stahley retired from his position as Assistant Vice President for Student Development to cap a run of 25 years serving the Stevens community. Stahley elected to continue coaching the program he was instrumental in starting as a club sport in 2004 before it attained Varsity status in 2006. Prior to his appointment as Assistant Vice President for Student Development, Stahley served as the Director of Career Development and Cooperative Education at Stevens. He was previously employed at Montclair State University.
