Dan Buehring
Head Coach
Dan Buehring is the second head coach in the history of Stevens men’s volleyball after accepting the position in January of 2021. In just his third season at the helm, Buehring led Stevens to their second national championship in program history, as they defeated North Central (Ill.) 3-1. Along the way, the team posted a 35-3 record and won the MAC Championship, earning them an automatic berth to the tournament. The 35 wins are the most in a season in franchise history. Buehring was named AVCA East Region Coach of the Year, as well as the MAC Coach of the Year. After a 10-4 first season, Beuhring led the Ducks to a 30-4 record and a berth to the NCAA Championship in just his first full season at Stevens. The team won the MAC Championship and were one of the last four teams remaining in the NCAA Tournament. Buehring comes to Stevens after a seven-year stint as the head coach at Benedictine University. He started the Eagles’ men’s volleyball program in 2014 and built it from the ground up, amassing an 89-47 overall record in his time there. Buehring was named the NACC Coach of the Year in 2018 after leading Benedictine to a share of the regular season conference title. Over his final three seasons at Benedictine, Buehring led the Eagles to a 55-14 overall record. Additionally, the program found itself inside the top-10 of the AVCA Poll in 28 of the 38 total polls from 2018-2020, including a program-best No. 3 overall ranking in 2019. Prior to working at Benedictine, Buehring served as the Assistant Women’s Volleyball Coach for both Loyola University Chicago and University of Illinois Chicago. As a collegiate, Buehring played for the men’s volleyball program at California Baptist University and helped the Lancers win the 2006 and 2007 NAIA National Titles. Patrick Dorywalski

Dorywalski was a memorable one, as he led the Ducks to the schools first-ever team National Championship while reaching the 500 win plateau. One of the nations leading instructors in the sport of volleyball, he started both the mens and womens programs from their inception at Stevens. The Ducks advanced to the UVC Championship game in 2016, and received an at-large bid and No. 5 seed in the NCAA Division III Men's Volleyball National Championship Tournament. After knocking off No. 4 Rutgers University-Newark, Stevens fell in the semifinals to eventual National Champions SUNY-New Paltz. Tim Ferriter became only the third person in American Volleyball Coaches Association history to named First All-AVCA all four years of playing. Chris Vaughan was tabbed Second Team All-AVCA while Gabe Shankweiler was named an Honorable Mention selection. Dorywalski was named the United Volleyball Conference Coach of the Year in 2015 after leading the Ducks to a perfect 8-0 record in conference play while only dropping two sets. The team received the first number one overall ranking in school history after knocking off then-No. 1 Juniata College at the Clash at Kean tournament in February. After suffering its only Division III loss to UC-Santa Cruz on February 21, Stevens rolled off a team-record 22 consecutive wins, culminating with a National Championship over three-time defending champion Springfield College. 2015 also saw four student-athlete named All-UVC, including David Evans who was named UVC Player of the Year. In addition, Evans, fellow seniors Kevin Aeckerle and Ryan Seifert along with junior Tim Ferriter were named AVCA All-Americans, with Evans claiming National Player of the Year honors. In NCAA Tournament Quarterfinals against Baruch College, Dorywalski notched his 500th career win, while in the semifinals he led the Ducks to a five set thrilling win over SUNY-New Paltz. Both Evans and Seifert recorded their 1000th kills during the 2015 campaign, while Seifert was named AVCA National Player of the Week after claiming UVC Tournament Most Outstanding Player after leading the team to its first UVC Conference Championship after topping New York University and New Paltz. Under Dorywalskis tutelage, the mens team has posted a 342-138 mark over the last 14 years while averaging 25 wins per season. They have also captured the North East Collegiate Volleyball Association Metro Division crown 10 times in the past twelve seasons. Subsequently, Dorywalski has produced a total of six American Volleyball Coaches Association All-American recipients and three CoSIDA Academic All-Americans. Dorywalski was named the Division III Mens Representative on the Board of Directors for the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) in October of 2011. He is the first DIII mens representative to be named to the board. In 2013, Stevens earned its first-ever trip to the NCAA Division III Championship with an at large bid out of the UVC. The Ducks completed the season with a 25-10 overall record (8-7 against nationally ranked teams) after they bowed out in the first round to Baruch College on April 26. For the second consecutive season, Stevens played in the UVC Finals match against national runner-up and then No. 1 Nazareth. Five members of the team earned all-UVC recognition, highlighted by a first-team nod to junior Ryan Seifert. In 2012, the Ducks posted an impressive 28-8 campaign and finished the season ranked sixth in the country. Stevens fell to Nazareth in the UVC Finals and missed out on an at-large bid to the first NCAA Division III Mens Volleyball Championship in Springfield, Mass. Sophomore David Evans was named UVC Player of the Year and also earned AVCA Second-Team All-America honors. Freshman Ian Tyger claimed the conferences top rookie honors as well. Steven posted an overall record of 18-12 during the 2011 season en route to another NECVA tournament appearance. The Ducks lost to Nazareth in the first round and have made the NECVA each year since 1998. Senior Brandt Grobeis and Evans were named to the NECVA all-tournament team for their efforts. In 2010, the Ducks, ranked as high as fourth on the AVCA Coaches Poll, posted a 20-12 overall mark en route to its 13th-consecutive appearance in the NECVA Tournament. Three student-athletes earned All-NECVA Metro Division accolades under Dorywalski's tutelage led by then-junior SteFan PremDas who earned first-team honors. Fellow juniors Brandt Grobeis and Timothy Karl each earned second-team accolades, with Grobeis also garnering CoSIDA/ESPN the Magazine second-team Academic All-America honors. The 2009 campaign ranks as one of the programs best seasons to date. The Ducks compiled a 26-7 record en route to their fourth NECVA title and a Molten Division III Mens Volleyball Championship berth. Stevens defeated then No. 3 University of California-Santa Cruz before falling to No. 1 Juniata in the finals to finish the season ranked No.2 in the Bison/AVCA Mens Volleyball Division III Coaches Poll as the national runner-up. Dorywalski helped produce two all-NECVA honorees and three AVCA All-Americans including NECVA Player of the Year and AVCA National Player of the Year Andrew Cranford. In 2008, Dorywalski led the squad to an overall record of 21-12. The Ducks finished second in the NECVA Metro Region with a ledger of 8-2. Stevens reached the championship round of the 2008 Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference South Region Tournament. Dorywalski assisted in producing an AVCA All-American in Cranford as well as three NECVA Metro Region all-stars. Michael Bertucci received CoSIDA Academic second-team All-American honors for his performance both on and off the court. In 2007, the Ducks posted a 33-6 record and captured the North East Collegiate Volleyball Association Championship for the third time in the last five years. They also went to the Molten Division III Mens Invitational Volleyball Championship for the third consecutive season but were defeated by top-ranked Carthage College and third-ranked Springfield College by identical 3-2 counts. In the end, Dorywalski guided two of his players, Michael Schulte and Tomas Bochicchio, to the AVCA Division III Mens All-America team. The previous year, Stevens compiled a 27-12 overall record as well as a perfect 14-0 mark in conference play. As a result, the Ducks earned the top seed in the NECVA Tournament and notched a victory in the opening round as they blanked the City College of New York, but lost to 12th-ranked Eastern Mennonite University in the second round by a 3-2 count. In 2005, Stevens went 25-9, which took them to their second NECVA title in three years. The Ducks also earned their highest-ever finish at the Molten Championship as they swept Medaille College in a third-place match. Ultimately, Stevens finished the year ranked No. 5 in the AVCA poll. In 2004, the Ducks finished the season with a 33-4 record, while climbing as far up the national rankings as No. 4 their highest-ever ranking in the AVCA poll. They also went unbeaten in NEVCA Metro play but were denied a return trip to the Molten Championship when they were downed by Medaille in five games in the semifinals of the NEVCA Tournament. Despite the loss, Dorywalski was able to rally his team and guided them to their first-ever ECAC South Tournament Championship. In 2003, Dorywalskis team went 27-10, captured their first NECVA Tournament title and clinched a spot in the Molten Championship. Moreover, Stevens won 15 consecutive matches before the Molten and finished the season ranked eighth in the final AVCA Division III poll. As a coach, Dorywalski has served on the ECAC Selection Committee and the NECVA Conference Executive board. He has also been the Chairman of the Womens Intercollegiate Athletic Conference League Volleyball Committee. Formerly the womens volleyball coach at Stevens, Dorywalski built a great tradition by capturing three conference championships and producing numerous all-conference selections. Also, during his 14 years as head coach of the womens program, Dorywalski was named the Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Coach of the Year in 1992 and the WIAC Coach of the Year in 1993, 1995 (Co-Coach), 1996 and 1999.
