Ian Capp

Head Coach

Ian Capp enters his second season as Head Coach of the men's beach volleyball squad in fall of 2024, his first season as the women's beach volleyball coach.  In his first season at the helm, Capp led the Mustangs to compete in the AVCA National tournament, and finished in fourth overall.  Capp comes most recently from MAC Freedom member Misericordia University, where he served as the graduate assistant coach to both the men's and women's volleyball teams. Under Capp's guidance, Cougar women's volleyball won an impressive 22 games in the 2022 season, earning a bid to the MAC Freedom Championships. On the men's side, Capp helped the program to 15 wins as well as a MAC Championship Tournament semifinal appearance. Prior to his graduate assistantship at Misericordia, Capp had an industrious collegiate career at Kean University. He started all four years for the Cougars, playing in 302 career sets and accumulating 318 kills, 2,314 assists, 110 total blocks, and 481 digs. His 228 career service aces rank him second all-time in NCAA Division III records. These statistics made him a three-time New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Setter of the Year and first-team All-NJAC selection, as well as a two-time NJAC Player of the Year. Capp also earned multiple American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA), Continental Volleyball Conference (CVC), and Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) awards as well as two CoSIDA Academic All-District designations. He led the Cougars to two NCAA Division III National Championship tournament appearances, including an Elite 8 berth in 2018. By the time he graduated, he was the first three-time All-American in Kean Men's Volleyball history. Though his college career came to an end after the 2020-21 season, Capp continued playing. He currently plays professionally in the National Volleyball Association for New Jersey Team Freedom. Since his debut with Team Freedom, Capp has consistently been ranked as one of the top grass volleyball players in the United States.   Year Overall 2023 11-7 TOTAL 11-7
