Karen Boen

Head Coach

Boen's student-athletes registered All-Conference performances at the NE-10 Championship, while four Skyhawks earned All-Region honors for their efforts at the East-Region Championship. In addition to conference and regional titles for both her men's and women's programs, Boen also collected NE-10 Coach of the Year and East Region Coach of the Year honors for both teams in 2013. In 12 years at the helm of the mens cross country program, Boen has led the team to seven NE-10 Championship titles and three NCAA Division II East Region championships, and the Skyhawks have qualified for the NCAA Championships for 11 consecutive years. With 16 NE-10 Coach of the Year awards (11 women's, five men's), Boen is the most decorated coach in NE-10 cross country history, and has also been named the NCAA Division II East Region Coach of the Year 13 times (10 women's, three men's). She has developed four mens cross country All-Americans and over 60 All-Conference and All-Region honorees. Boens teams have also excelled academically, with the mens program making eight consecutive appearances on the NCAA Division II All-Academic Team. A 1979 graduate of Bridgewater State College with a degree in exercise physiology, Boen and her husband Carl reside in Stoughton and have three daughters, Courtney, Colleen, and Molly.

Dan Schwartz

Assistant Coach

Schwartz is in his second year as an assistant coach with the track and field program at Stonehill College. He serves as the coach for jumpers and multi-event athletes. Schwartz comes to Stonehill after spending a year as an assistant track and field coach at Central Connecticut State University, and prior to that, he served as an assistant track and field and cross country coach at Northampton High School. Schwartz graduated from the University of Massachusetts in 2012, where he was a captain of the track and field team and recorded the fourth highest point total in UMass history in the decathlon, with 6,166. Schwartz is a USTFCCCA Level 2 Certified Jumps Specialist.

Rich Hart

Assistant Coach

Hart's first five years, the men's and women's cross country squads won a combined seven Northeast-10 Conference championships and six NCAA Northeast Regional titles, finishing no lower than second at either meet, and qualified for the NCAA Division II National Championships every year. Prior to Stonehill, Hart served as an assistant track and field coach at Northeastern University from 1999-2004. Hart, who also serves as a track & field official, has directed several major events, including assisting with the 2006 NCAA Division II Championships and the first-ever track and field event hosted by Stonehill College in April of 2008. He also served on the NCAA Track & Field Committee from 2010 through 2014. In addition to his coaching experience, Hart taught high school English, history and theology at Boston-area schools from 1981-2007. A 1981 graduate of the University of Connecticut, he and his wife Rose reside in Norwood with their two children.

Steve Fitzgerald

Assistant Coach

Fitzgerald is in his eighth year in the athletics department at Stonehill College and has been elevated to the position of Associate Director of Athletics after three years of serving as Assistant Director of Athletics for Operations. Fitzgerald manages day-to-day aspects of the athletic departments budget, equipment, athletic facilities, home events, and camps/clinics, while also providing administrative oversight for multiple varsity programs. He is presently serving the athletic department as liaison for the contruction of the Fr. Mark Cregan, CSC, Center for Athletics and Recreation. From 2009-12, Fitzgerald served as the Coordinator of Camps and Clinics at Stonehill, and prior to that, he worked at the Northeast-10 Conference as an Assistant to the Commissioner from 2007-08. A 2005 graduate of Boston College, Fitzgerald earned his undergraduate degree in sociology with a minor in faith, peace, and justice. He then earned his Masters Degree in Education from Endicott Colleges Van Loan School of Graduate Studies in 2012.
