Danielle Novara
Coach
Novara as the new Director of the Cross Country and Track & Field teams. Hunt brings a wealth of knowledge and experience at multiple levels in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), most recently as the primary coach of the women's cross country program at Division I Colgate University. "This upcoming year in cross country and track & field I look to build on the recent success of the men's and women's teams, always striving to be the top in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC)," said Novara, a SUNYAC Hall of Fame inductee from her time as a student-athlete at Geneseo. "We will look to qualify as many athletes to the Division III Nationals as possible. In future years, it is my goal to lead Brockport to becoming a national stand out team in both cross country and track & field." Novara graduated Cum Laude from SUNY Geneseo and was a productive member on a nationally competitive cross country team that placed fifth in nationals in 2007. Upon graduating from Geneseo with a Bachelor of Arts degree in both English and Anthropology, Novara went on to earn her Master of Arts in Sustainable Communities from Northern Arizona University while also beginning her coaching career as a volunteer assistant. "Brockport is lucky to add a strong coach to a great staff," said Brockport Athletic Director Erick Hart. "We are excited about the possibilities that Coach Novara will bring to the table. She has some great experience and has showed tremendous enthusiasm to the sport which will help her gain the respect and command of her student-athletes from day one." Novara's time at Division III Oberlin College located in Ohio was quite impressive as an assistant coach. The Yeoman women's cross country team had its two best performances in school history under the tutelage of Novara as the Yeowomen placed ninth in NCAAs during the 2012 and eighth during the 2013 season. Novara also helped produce the first two male qualifiers in school history for the 2013 Cross Country National Championship. Also during her three years at Oberlin, she helped shape three All-Americans. She is driven to accomplish similar results with the Golden Eagles. "I chose Brockport for the tremendous past, present and future that I know exists with this program," said Novara. "The facilities, the support of the administration, and the academic programs at the college all lend themselves to bringing in, and developing great talent to the top of Division III." The Brockport Athletics' mission statement correlates with that of the overall mission of The College at Brockport, which "has the success of its students at its highest priority." Novara understands and recognizes this. During her three years at Oberlin, a total of 18 student-athletes from the cross country teams were chosen by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) as Academic All-Americans. "My philosophy is that the Brockport Cross Country, Track & Field teams are an extension of the academic classroom at Brockport," explained Novara. "The values they learn and the capacity they develop by participating in athletics goes hand in hand with their growth as both students and people." With the addition of Novara, 2014-15's acting director Ed Jaskulski will continue his outstanding work with all six teams while also freeing him to assist in all 23 of Brockport's NCAA sanctioned sports as the Head Strength & Conditioning Coach. "I will do my best in continuing to support the Cross Country and Track & Field programs, the alumni and the administration as I always have," said Jaskulski. "I look forward to working with Danielle and the new outlook she will bring into the program here at Brockport. I am ready and willing to embrace change and support Danielle as she works to enhance the performance of the student-athletes and the team." Novara is extremely grateful for the opportunity and excited at the possibilities saying, "I would like to thank Erick Hart, Liam Welsh and Ed Jaskulski for this tremendous opportunity and their faith in me. I am beyond honored and grateful for this incredible next step."
