Ben Wineburg

Head Coach

Wineburg was hired by The College at Brockport as head coach of the men's lacrosse team in 2000, which marked Brockport's first varsity season since 1979. The Golden Eagles joined the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) in 2002.   As of 2015, Wineburg's career record stands at 81-118 (40.7 winning percentage). In 2015, the Golden Eagles finished with a record of 8-7 and a 3-3 mark in conference play and tied for third in the regular season SUNYAC race. Five players were selected to the All-SUNYAC list in 2015, with Nick Smith earning All-American Honorable Mention from the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Assocaition.  Wineburg was selected as a coach for the 2014 USILA/LaxWorld North-South All-Star game. In 2014, after four seasons with the Golden Eagles, defender Colin King earned All-America honors from the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) and also earend USLIA national acadmeic honors. The Golden Eagles reached the SUNYAC Tournament in 2013 for the second time under Wineburg's watch. Brockport won a pair of games, including a 6-5 overtime victory over Geneseo, to close out the regular season and clinch a playoff berth. Brockport placed three players on the All-SUNYAC team, including Jesse Elliott who became Brockport's all-time scoring leader. The 2011 season was the best for both Wineburg and Brockport as the Golden Eagles qualified for their first-ever SUNYAC postseason tournament after posting a 6-8 record. The Golden Eagles won their last three regular-season games, and Brockport had four players land on the year-ending All-SUNYAC teams. The team landed four players on the all-conference squad in 2011 as Jon Fiorillo, Mike Tammaro, Justin Tierney and Mike Sanderson all earned the conference honors. Wineburg led the 2010 squad to an 8-6 record with three losses by one goal and another loss by two goals. The eight wins set a new school record with the biggest win of the season coming against nationally-ranked Geneseo. In the six previous seasons, Wineburg led the Golden Eagles to at least five wins five times. Since restarting the program from scratch in 2001, Wineburg has coached 25 All-SUNYAC selections including first-team selection and conference rookie of the year David Shield in 2007. The Golden Eagles have had at least one all-conference selection each year since 2004 when Ben Bullock started the streak with a 2nd-team selection.    A 1996 graduate of Nazareth College, Wineburg led Nazareth to a 1996 national championship, the second of three national titles in Nazareth's lacrosse history. The two-time All-American goalie was named the Division III Player of the Year and was the MVP of the national championship game while leading Nazareth to an 11-10 overtime win over Washington College in 1996.  Wineburg graduated from Nazareth with a B.S. in business administration with a concentration in pre-law. He served as an assistant in 1997, when Nazareth won its third NCAA crown, and again assisted Nazareth head coach Scott Nelson in 1998. In 1999, he worked as a graduate assistant at Alfred University. He returned to Nazareth as an assistant in the 2000 season when the Golden Flyers lost in the national semifinals to Middlebury College to finish with a record of 13-1.  A native of Auburn, N.Y., Wineburg holds a handful of other Nazareth records. In 1996, he compiled a 7.59 goals-against average to rank eighth nationally. His school-record save percentage of .693 was fifth nationally. He also holds the mark for save percentage in a career. In addition to being a two-time All-American for the Golden Flyers, Wineburg was captain of Nazareth's 1996 national championship team and played in the North/South Division III All-Star Game. He also was the National Goalie of the Year as a senior. As both a junior and senior, he was the team's Defensive MVP. Wineburg lives in Rochester with his wife Jana and son Michael.
