Marty Vajen

Marty Vajen was hired as Brockport's first full-time assistant cross country/track & field coach in the Summer of 2023. Vajen will report to Head Track & Field Coach Ed Jaskulski, and his duties will include overseeing the sprints group for the track & field team while also assisting John Davis with the cross country program. Vajen has been a driving force behind the continued success of the SUNY Brockport Track & Field program, bringing high-level expertise in sprints, hurdles, relays, and jumps. In just two seasons (2023–24 and 2024–25), Vajen has helped guide Brockport athletes to historic achievements both regionally and nationally. During the 2023–24 season, Coach Vajen's training and leadership contributed to: Seven new school records Two individual national qualifiers, both earning 2nd Team All-American honors The first men’s 4x400m relay in school history to qualify for the NCAA National Championships, also earning 2nd Team All-American honors Seven SUNYAC Conference Champions and 19 All-Conference athletes Nine All-Region individuals and two All-Region relays Building on that momentum, the 2024–25 season featured: Three school records Two national qualifiers, including Lexi Rodriguez, who earned 2nd Team All-American honors Seven All-Region individuals and one All-Region relay Five individual conference champions Thirteen All-Conference athletes and six All-Conference relays A national event squad ranking of #6 in the women’s 400m hurdles Across both seasons, Coach Vajen has coached athletes to 61 new top-10 performances in program history, helping elevate Brockport's profile on the national stage. Coach Vajen holds certifications from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) in Sprints/Hurdles/Relays, Jumps, and Strength and Conditioning, underscoring his technical knowledge and commitment to athlete development. His continued impact has made him an integral part of the Brockport coaching staff and a key figure in the program’s rise in NCAA Division III track and field. Vajen recently completed a five-year stint as an assistant coach of the track & field and cross country programs at Washington & Jefferson College in Washington, Pa. He was named the 2023 Mid-Atlantic Region Indoor Track & Field Assistant Coach of the Year with the Presidents. He also earned W&J Assistant Coach of the Year honors. During his time at W&J, he coached two outdoor national qualifiers, four All-Mid-Atlantic Region athletes, 14 individual PAC Champions, 34 All-Conference athletes and one cross country All-American. He also helped the President’s win the 2023 PAC Indoor Team title as well as the 2018 PAC men’s cross country team championship. Before W&J, he was a graduate assistant with the Muskingum University cross country and track & field teams for two years in New Concord, Ohio. During his time at Muskingum, he created personalized training plans for jumpers and hurdlers while also leading advisory meetings and tracking academic progress for 50+ student-athletes. Other duties at Brockport will include on-track instruction for practices and meets, student-athlete and team development, academic monitoring, meeting strategies, recruitment and retention of qualified student-athletes, meet management, budget management and team travel. Before becoming a coach, Vajen was a standout on the Muskingum track team. With success on the track and in the classroom, the Lancaster, Ohio, native was named to the Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Team. While at Muskingum, Martin earned a master’s degree in Adult Education in May of 2018 and a bachelor’s degree in Biology in May of 2016. He currently resides in the Brockport area.

Education University of Rochester Building Sustained Success Heading into her 11th season as head coach, Corinne Jones continues to turn the program around to establish long-term success with seven postseason appearances as a member of the SUNYAC and one postseason appearance as a member of the Empire 8. The program reached the SUNYAC Tournament in each of her first five seasons at the helm. In her first season, Jones coached the team to its first winning season since 2008-09. She has led the Golden Eagles to two SUNYAC Semifinal appearances since taking over the team. In 2023-24, Coach Jones clinched a home postseason game for the first time during her tenure. Raising Expectations: Entering her 10th season at the helm, Jones would lead the Golden Eagles to one of the most successful seasons in program history. Posting a 24-5 overall record and a 15-1 conference record as first-year members of the Empire 8, Jones would coach Brockport to its second-most wins in a single season in program history, winning the Empire 8 Regular Season Championship. Following an appearance in the Empire 8 Championship, Jones would guide Brockport to its first NCAA DIII Championship appearance since 2008-09, the first in her tenure with Brockport. Before Brockport Before her time at Brockport, Jones spent two seasons at the Division I level as an assistant coach with the University at Buffalo from 2008-2010. She also served as an assistant coach and interim head coach at Niagara University. The former Bowdoin College basketball star captained two teams to the NCAA Elite Eight in 2001-02 and 2002-03 and was also a member of the Sweet Sixteen team from 2000-01. Jones began her collegiate coaching career in 2005 with the University of Rochester as an assistant before earning a head coaching position with Genesee Community College in 2007. Emphasizing Academics In 2015-16, Jones coached a recipient of the SUNY Chancellor Award, an honor given to the player with the highest grade point average (GPA) among the All-Conference. The same year, the team saw its highest overall team GPA (3.34) in three seasons. Under Jones, the Golden Eagles have made multiple appearances on the WBCA Academic Honor Roll, most recently in 2024 and 2025. Under Jones' Guidance Across her 10 seasons at Brockport, Jones has coached 19 all-conference players, including three First-Team selections. In 2019, she coached a First-Team USBWA Rochester area selection. In 2023, she coached Stephanie Jean-Baptiste, who was named SUNYAC Rookie of the Year, as well as Zairea Hannah, who represented Brockport women's basketball by earning first-team Rochester area honors. In 2024, Jones guided freshman Peyton Maneri to the Empire 8 Rookie of the Year award, while Stephanie Jean-Baptiste earned First Team All-Conference, Co-Defensive Player of the Year, and All-Region honors. Commitment to Leadership Off the hardwood, Jones has committed to promoting inclusivity and leadership, founding the Student Athletes for Equity Group and serving as a contributor to the University's Women's Leadership Network. In addition, Jones serves as a Conference Representative for the Women's Basketball Coaches Association, mentoring coaches throughout the area and fostering professional growth throughout the coaching community. Her leadership culminated in the Brockport coaching staff earning Empire 8 Coaching Staff of the Year in 2024-25, with Jones being named both the D3hoops.com Region 3 and USBWA Rochester Area Coach of the Year. Personal Jones resides with her husband, Brian, and their sons, Barrett and Trey.

Dyamon Hunter
Coach
Dyamon Hunter joined the Brockport women’s basketball program as an assistant coach in the Summer of 2023. Hunter graduated from SUNY Potsdam last Spring and was a five-year standout for the women’s basketball program. Hunter graduated ranked second all-time at Potsdam in career scoring with 1,214 points in 93 games played. Hunter was a captain at Potsdam, a three-time SUNYAC All-Conference selection, and a two-time Women’s Athlete of the Year for the Bears. Hunter played in 93 career games and ranked second all-time in assists (363), third in field goals made (433), fourth in free throws (259) and eighth in 3-pointers (89). Hunter started an impressive 91 of 93 career contests. Serving as an assistant coach under Corinne Jones since the 2023-24 season, Hunter helped lead the Golden Eagles to a 38-17 overall record and a 25-9 conference mark over the past two years. Following a historic 22-3 2024-25 regular season, Hunter helped guide Brockport to the Empire 8 Championship, culminating in the Golden Eagles' first NCAA Division III Tournament appearance since 2009. Led by head coach Corinne Jones, Hunter was recognized as part of the Empire 8's Coaching Staff of the Year and recently graduated with her master's degree in athletic administration from SUNY Brockport in the Spring of 2025. Off the court, Hunter has held a variety of positions, including Strength and Conditioning Intern at Potsdam (2021-23), as well as helping in the athletic department as an assistant event manager (2018-2023). Hunter was also an assistant high school basketball coach at New Heights in New York, NY. Hunter will also work in the Special Events Recreation Center on campus as a graduate assistant with Intramurals and Club Sports while pursuing a master’s degree. Originally from the Bronx, NY, Hunter graduated from Potsdam with a degree in exercise science.
