Mara Primmer

Head Coach

Mara Primmer was named the head women's soccer coach in the spring of 2022 following a year serving as the interim head coach. She previously was the head women's soccer coach at Agnes Scott College in Georgia for two seasons.  Primmer has steadily improved Oneonta's record over the past four seasons, with a conference playoff appearance in 2024. Oneonta went 6-10-1 overall with a 5-4 SUNYAC record. Two Red Dragons earned All-SUNYAC honors in 2-25, while Oneonta had four in 2024.  Before her time at Agnes Scott, Primmer served as the women's soccer head coach and assistant athletic director of recruiting at Wells College for six seasons. In her first three years at Wells, Primmer helped the Express increase their win each season with a 9-7-1 record in 2016 for the most since the 2002 season.   The Express also saw a marked improvement on the offensive end of the field. After posting a second-best program mark of 81 points in her first season as head coach, Wells recorded 116 points with 45 goals in the 2016 season for a program best. Primmer's team also succeeded in the classroom, coaching multiple academic all-conference student-athletes and one CoSIDA Academic All-Regional recipient. Before joining Wells in 2014, Primmer served as an assistant coach at Oneonta for one season. The Red Dragons claimed the SUNYAC Championship in women's soccer following a 13-5-3 overall record in 2013. They participated in the NCAA Division III Tournament for the 14th time in program history. During Oneonta's SUNYAC Championship run, Primmer was tasked with scouting, recruiting, video breakdown, and practice session responsibilities. Primmer played three years for the NCAA Division I St. Bonaventure Bonnies as an attacking midfielder and forward, scoring eight points. She also played one year in a similar role for the NCAA Division II Southern Connecticut State Owls, earning a trip to the Northeast 10 Championship Tournament. Primmer scored a goal in the semifinal game against Southern New Hampshire University, which proved to be the school's first playoff victory in nearly four seasons. In addition to her collegiate playing career, Primmer played for the Adirondack Lynx, a semi-professional team out of Albany, and spent two-plus years playing in South Western Germany within the Women's Bundesliga for 1. FC Saarbrucken, SV Dirmingen, and SV Furpach. At SV Furpach, Primmer played and started all games as a defensive central midfielder and an outside attacking midfielder. Her team was twice the top team in the greater area of Neunkirchen, Saarland, Germany. Her squadron finished second overall in the Regionalliga, missing promotion to Bundesliga by only one point.  Primmer is a native of Oneonta, N.Y., and attended the Oneonta City School District, where she excelled as a member of the varsity soccer and track teams.
