AT STONY BROOK During his tenure at Stony Brook the Seawolf Tight End’s have experienced tremendous success as Martino has overseen the development of many impact players including the program’s first NFL player Will Tye. Martino also developed Smithtown, N.Y., native Dennis Lestrange into a three-year starter and captain, as well as 2017 All-American and 2018 Pre Season first team All-American Cal Daniels. Tye, Lestrange and Daniels were all voted captain by their peers in their senior campaigns. PRIOR TO STONY BROOK A 2013 graduate of the University of Connecticut, Martino worked as an offensive assistant under Paul Pasqualoni and George Deleone as an undergrad. NOTABLE STUDENT-ATHLETES UNDER COACH MARTINO •TE Cal Redman (2019-2024) – A team captain as a senior, Redman was named the 2024 SUNY Scholar-Athlete of the Year. He also earned Second Team Phil Steele All-CAA honors, as well as All-CAA Second Team honors after setting career highs in receptions (32), receiving yards (393), and touchdowns (4). He also ranked second in the CAA for touchdowns by a tight end and was instrumental in key victories, including scoring in back-to-back wins over Towson and No. 16 William & Mary. The Seawolves went from 0-10 to 8-4, the largest turnaround in the FCS. •TE Cal Daniels (2015-18) – Daniels earned first team STATS FCS All-America status following the 2017 season and was named third team STATS FCS All-American after his senior season in 2018. • TE Will Tye (2013-14) – Tye became Stony Brook’s first player to play in an NFL game when he signed with the New York Giants following the 2015 NFL Draft and played in 13 games in 2015 and all 16 games in 2016. He was named to the NFL’s All-Rookie team in 2015 after he pulled down 42 catches and three touchdowns. PERSONAL Martino is a Suffolk County native and a graduate of Rocky Point High School.

Sean Hammonds

Sean Hammonds rejoined the Seawolves’ staff as the defensive line coach in January 2023. Hammonds, a 2020 Stony Brook graduate and former staffer, returned to Long Island after serving as a defensive line graduate assistant at Kent State for the 2022 season. Hammonds helped the Seawolves improve from a winless 0-10 campaign in 2023 to an impressive 8-4 finish in 2024, recording their first winning season since 2018 and earning their highest national ranking in six years. The defense made major strides, slashing opponents’ scoring from 39.2 points per game down to 24.0. Total yards allowed dropped by nearly 100 per game—from 470.7 to 373.5—while touchdowns surrendered fell from 53 to just 32. The Seawolves also forced their most turnovers in a season since 2014 and allowed their fewest points per game since 2021. Individually, Hammonds helped multiple defenders to standout seasons. Defensive lineman Rushawn Lawrence earned First Team All-CAA honors and collected two All-America nods, while freshman lineman Sebastian Regis was recognized as a Freshman All-American. While at Kent State, Hammonds coached the defensive line daily and assisted with game planning, scouting reports, and opponent film breakdowns every week for each opponent. Additionally, he assisted in coaching special teams and served as a recruiting assistant. Before his stint at Kent State, Hammonds was a member of the Stony Brook coaching staff from 2020 until the spring of 2022. While on staff with the Seawolves, Hammonds was a defensive coaching assistant and strength staff assistant. Hammonds contributed to the Stony Brook football program in a variety of ways. As a defensive assistant, he aided the defensive staff in game planning, scouting reports, and film breakdowns. He worked in collaboration with the rest of the coaching staff to set administrative goals for the football program. In addition, he assisted coaching special teams and spent time recruiting Connecticut and was involved with on campus recruiting. Prior to his coaching career, Hammonds played a combined four seasons as a defensive lineman for Ball State and Stony Brook. Hammonds spent his undergraduate career at Ball State where he received his bachelor’s degree in psychology. Following his time at Ball State, Hammonds transferred to Stony Brook where he earned his master’s degree in liberal studies in 2020. Hammonds played one season for the Seawolves in 2019 and appeared in 12 games. The defensive lineman recorded 30 tackles, seven TFLs, and three sacks as a member of the Stony Brook defense.

Zuril Hendrick

On January 17, 2024, Stony Brook football and head coach Billy Cosh announced the hiring of Zuril Hendrick to the program. Hendrick, who will take over as the cornerbacks coach, comes from Sacred Heart, where he spent the 2023 season as the cornerbacks coach. The Pioneers finished as the top pass defense in the NEC last season, allowing just 132.6 pass yards per game. SHU was also the second-best scoring defense in the league last year. Hendrick has also coached collegiately at Utica University (2019-20; 2022-23) and at Pittsford High School in New York State Section 5. Hendrick was first hired by Utica in the Summer of 2019 as an assistant football coach responsible for running backs. He returned to the sidelines in 2022 for a second stint with the program, working primarily with the defensive backs. He played for Division II Edinboro University [Pa.] where he is the school's all-time interception leader with 21 picks, and totaled 195 career tackles. Hendrick earned All-American, All-Region and All-Conference honors as a collegiate student-athlete. Professionally, he received two NFL rookie minicamp invitations in 2019 with the Chicago Bears and Denver Broncos. Hendrick also played with the Bismarck Bucks of the Indoor Football League in 2021, earning Second Team and All-Rookie Team distinctions. Hendrick also has experience working with youth, particularly as a coach and sports camp counselor in his native Rochester.

Scott Lewis

Stony Brook football and head coach Billy Cosh announced Scott Lewis as the program's next defensive coordinator, as Lewis will assume the role immediately ahead of the 2024 season, the program announced on January 16, 2024. In his first season as the DC for Stony Brook, Lewis helped the team to new heights as the team had most significant turnaround in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS), with Stony Brook improving from a 0-10 record in 2023 to 8-4 in 2024. It marked their first winning season since 2018 and their highest national ranking in six years. The defense also saw substantial improvements, limiting opponents to 24.0 points per game compared to 39.2 the previous year. Total yards allowed dropped from 470.7 to 373.5 per game, and the Seawolves reduced touchdowns allowed from 53 to 32. The team also caused their most turnovers since the 2014 season and allowed their fewest points per game since 2021. Lewis guided Defensive lineman Rushawn Lawrence to the First Team All-CAA honors and two All-American awards, while freshman standout defensive lineman Sebastian Regis was named to the Freshman All-American team. He also helped cornerback Rudy Silvera to the All-CAA Second Team, linebacker AJ Roberts to the All-CAA Third Team and Anthony Ferrelli to the Phil Steele CAA All-Conference team. Lewis spent the last three seasons at Saint Francis (PA), where he guided the Red Flash to top-20 FCS ranks in four categories in 2022, ranking ninth in passing defense (176.8), 18th in total defense (332.8), 19th in red zone defense (75%) and 20th in scoring defense (21.5) in 2022. That year, Saint Francis surged to a 9-3 record and reached the FCS playoffs. "Going against Scott while at Richmond and at Western Michigan, I was always impressed by how hard his guys played and how multiple he was on defense," Cosh said. "He will bring energy and focus to our defense. Excited to work alongside Scott." Under his leadership, NEC opponents averaged just 14.6 points per game. Saint Francis players were consistently on award lists, as Lewis coached 11 All-Conference selections, two All-America selections, two defensive NEC Rookies of the Year and the NEC Defensive Player of the Year in Donnell Brown in 2022. Brown's 2022 pick as Defensive Player of the Year was the first in school history. Prior to Saint Francis, Lewis spent three seasons (2017-19) at the University of Nebraska Kearney as the defensive coordinator, helping the Lopers to its first winning season in the MIAA and a Mineral Water Bowl victory in 2019. He guided 16 players to All-Conference awards and added two All-Region picks. Lewis' defense held nine opponents to 14 points or fewer across his three seasons. His career as a defensive coordinator began at Eastern New Mexico University in 2015. He helped lead ENMU to consecutive winning seasons, and his defense ranked 15th nationally in rushing defense and limited conference opponents to 84.4 rushing yards per game. The Greyhounds also allowed their fewest points per game in 10 seasons under Lewis. Before becoming a defensive coordinator, Lewis had served stints at both SFU as a linebackers coach/special teams coordinator (2014) and ENMU as a linebackers coach (2011-2013). These stints included coaching a punt return unit which finished 20th in the FCS in punt return yards allowed, averaging 12.47 per game and a linebacker unit at ENMU that led the conference in rushing defense in 2013. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in history from Saint Francis in 2011 and a masters in physical education from ENMU in 2013. As a player at Saint Francis (2007-10), Lewis was a five-time All-American selection and a team captain his last three seasons. In the Northeast Conference, he was a three-time First Team All-NEC pick and garnered both the NEC and ECAC Rookie of the Year honors in 2007. He finished with 524 career tackles, which ranks fifth all-time in FCS history. Lewis also picked up several academic awards in school, including National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame Scholar Athlete and William V. Campbell Award Semi-Finalist. The Johnstown, Pa. native was inducted into Saint Francis' Athletics Hall of Fame in 2022.

Adam Lovan

On January 17, 2024, Stony Brook football and head coach Billy Cosh announced the hiring of Adam Lovan to the program. In his first season on the Island, Lovan played a key role in one of the most dramatic turnarounds in the country. Helping guide a team projected to finish last in the CAA, he was instrumental in Stony Brook’s rise to an 8-4 overall record (5-3 CAA). The 2024 campaign marked the program’s first winning season since 2018, its highest national ranking in six years (No. 16), and a No. 24 finish in the final Stats Perform FCS regular season poll. Under Lovan’s leadership, the offense saw significant gains — nearly doubling its scoring output from 15.2 points per game in 2023 to 29.6 in 2024. Total offensive yardage climbed from 314.2 to 403.9 yards per game, with passing production improving from 210.1 to 223.6 yards per game. The Seawolves set single-season program records for passing yards (2,858) and completion percentage (62.8%). He also mentored quarterback Tyler Knoop into one of the most productive signal-callers in school history. Knoop set the program record for single-season completion percentage, ranked 11th all-time in single-season passing yards, and delivered a record-breaking six-touchdown performance at Towson on Oct. 19. He also recorded the third-most passing yards in a game in program history with 408 yards vs. Monmouth on Nov. 23. Lovan was part of Cosh's offense at Western Michigan as a graduate assistant quarterbacks coach takes over as Stony Brook's quarterbacks coach and offensive recruiting coordinator. As a team last season, WMU was second in the MAC in passing offense (211.2), third in total offense (365.0) and average first downs (19.8) along with fifth in scoring (23.7) and offensive efficiency (123.3). His prior coaching stops included as a graduate assistant at Arkansas State (2021-22), a volunteer assistant at VMI (2020-21), and an undergraduate assistant at Indiana (2017-19). At VMI, Lovan served as an offensive assistant working with assistant coach Patrick Ashford and the wide receivers group. During his time with the Hoosiers at Indiana, was a student assistant for two years working primarily with the wide receivers and helped run practices and aided in scouting. He was a part of VMI's FCS Playoffs appearance in the 2020-21, working with the wide receivers and running backs, and coaching All-American wideout Jakob Herres. VMI put up at least 400 yards of total offense in six of eight games that season, including against No. 1 James Madison in the playoffs. Lovan played two years at quarterback at Wabash College before transferring to Indiana University where he received a degree in public financial management in 2019.

Anthony Davis II

Under the program's new head coach in Billy Cosh, Stony Brook football announced Anthony Davis II as the program's next offensive coordinator, the program announced on January 16, 2024. In his first season running the offense, Davis helped the Seawolves to the largest turnaround in the FCS in 2024 by going 0-10 (0-8 CAA) in 2023, projected to finish last in the conference for 2024, to an 8-4 (5-3 CAA) record in 2024. This remarkable improvement marked the team's first winning season since 2018, its highest national ranking in six years (No. 16), and finishing at No. 24 in the Stats Perform final regular season poll. On the offensive side, the team improved from 15.2 points per game in 2023 to 29.6 points per game in 2024. Total offensive yardage jumped from 314.2 to 403.9 yards per game, including a surge in rushing yards from 104.1 to 170.3 and passing yards from 210.1 to 223.6. The team's touchdown count skyrocketed from 19 in 2023 to 44 in 2024. The Seawolves tallied their most passing yards in a season in program history and the most rushing touchdowns and yards since 2019. They also recorded their most points in a season since 2017 and their most total yards since 2019. He helped Roland Dempster become the program's first Walter Payton Award finalist after he finished third in the FCS and second in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) in total touchdowns. He also guided Cal Redman, Nico Papic, and Cole Bunicci to the All-CAA team. Davis, who will also serve as the wide receivers coach, will re-join Cosh from Western Michigan, where he previously served as the running backs coach for the 2023 season. There, he coached freshman Jalen Buckley to 1,003 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns for the season, finishing third in the league with 91.2 yards per game. Buckley earned All-America Team (College Football Network) and MAC Freshman of the Year honors for his efforts. "Anthony is a great teacher and human being," Cosh said. "Being with him over the years, I've always respected how he works and how he communicates with his players and staff. He will do a great job with our offense and wide receivers." Before Western Michigan, he also served as a running backs coach at Chattanooga (2022), Akron (2021), and with Cosh at VMI (2019-20). He led FCS All-American Ailym Ford to a SoCon-leading 119.5 yards per game and 12 touchdowns in 2022. His average rushing yards ranked eighth in the FCS and his rushing touchdowns ranked tied for 26th. Alongside Cosh, who was the Keydets' wide receivers coach in 2019 and the offensive coordinator in the 2020-21 season, Davis served as both the running backs coach and recruiting coordinator in those two seasons. In his first season with VMI's running backs, Alex Ramsey led the SoCon and finished tied for third in the FCS with 15 rushing touchdowns along with seventh in the nation with 1,355 rushing yards. The next year, VMI reached the FCS playoffs with Korey Bridy finishing top 10 in the league in average rushing (68.3) and rushing scores (4). Prior to VMI, Davis had served on the strength and conditioning staff and as a graduate assistant coach (2016-18), coaching on both sides of the ball with both the wide receivers and defensive backs. Davis played two years at Indiana in 2013 and 2014 before transferring to Western Kentucky as a graduate transfer in 2015. Combined with playing and coaching, Davis won two Conference USA championships with Western Kentucky (2015, 2016) and reached three straight bowl games from 2015-17, grabbing wins in the Miami Beach Bowl in 2015 and the Boca Raton Bowl in 2016. The Indianapolis native earned a Bachelor of Science in Public Affairs from Indiana in 2015 and later earned both an MA in Organizational Leadership along with an MBA from Western Kentucky.

Kevin Elliott

Kevin Elliott was named the Stony Brook football special teams coordinator and outside linebackers coach, as the program announced on January 17, 2024. Elliott joins the Seawolves after spending the past two seasons at Missouri State. In 2023, Elliott moved to the safeties position coach under new head coach Ryan Beard. The 2024 season was nothing short of historic for Elliott and the Seawolves. After finishing 0-10 (0-8 CAA) in 2023 and being projected to finish last in the league, the team completed a stunning turnaround by going 8-4 overall and 5-3 in conference play. The dramatic improvement marked Stony Brook’s first winning season since 2018, its highest national ranking in six years (No. 16), and a No. 24 finish in the final Stats Perform regular season poll. Under Elliott’s guidance, kicker Enda Kirby earned All-CAA Second Team honors and rewrote the record books, setting program records for most field goals made in a season, most attempts, and the highest field goal percentage in Stony Brook history. On kickoffs, Spencer Biscoe helped the Seawolves rank third in the CAA in both touchbacks and total kickoff yards. In the punting game, Elliott coached Clayton Taylor to the third-best punting average in the conference (39.7), while Taylor’s 42.3-yard average ranked second all-time at Stony Brook. The special teams unit also contributed two blocked punts on the season. In his first season at MoState, Elliott mentored the outside linebackers and was part of a solid Bears defensive unit in 2022 that included four all-conference selections. Elliott's position group boasted a number of young standouts, including sophomore stalwart Tahj Chambers who racked up 35 total tackles, 4.5 for loss, a pair of interceptions and 2.0 sacks. In his second season at MoState, he helped Todric McGee and Devin Goree to the All-MVFC squad and guided corner back Avery Powell to the FCS Freshman All-America Team. The team ranked top-five in numerous defensive categories for the conference such as interceptions, fumbles forced, and fumbles recovered, and Prior to coming to Springfield, Elliott served the previous two years at Greensboro (N.C.) College as the defensive coordinator and secondary coach from 2020-21. Prior to his stint in Greensboro, Elliott enjoyed a two-year stint at Concord University where he served as the assistant head coach and defensive coordinator. During that time, Elliott’s defense ranked fifth in the NCAA Division II fumble recovery rankings, while leading the Mountain East Conference. In addition, Elliott coached five All-MEC selections, including an Academic All-American. Elliott previously served as a defensive graduate assistant at the University of Louisville under current Bears head coach Bobby Petrino. While with the Cardinals, Elliott helped bring an ACC Atlantic Division Championship to Louisville in 2016. In addition, the Cardinals also made appearances in the Citrus Bowl and the TaxSlayer Bowl. He was also on the staff that produced Heisman Trophy Winner Lamar Jackson, while also having three players named All-ACC, two NFL draft picks, and one freshman All-American. During this time, the Cardinals ranked 14th in the nation in total defense, 12th in rushing defense, 10th in third-down defense, 22nd in interceptions, and 24th in takeaways. Before joining the Cardinals staff, Elliott spent three more seasons at Concord where he coached the secondary for three seasons and adding the title of special teams coordinator in 2015. During that time, Elliott had eight All-Conference selections, five All-Region players, and three All-Americans, while also leading the team to the NCAA Division II National Semi-Finals in 2014 and going 13-1. During that season, the Mountain Lions also won the Mountain East Conference title and the Regional Championship. As a player at Concord, Elliott was a four-year letter winner and was named to the All-Conference team in 2012, while also serving as a team captain. That season, Elliott also finished second in the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with four interceptions. The year prior, Elliott and the Mountain Lions won the WVIAC title for the first time in 21 seasons, qualifying for the NCAA Division II playoffs for the first time in program history. Elliott holds a B.S. in Physical Education and Health Pre K-Adult (2013) and a M.A. in Health Promotion (2015), both from Concord University. Elliott and his wife, Nikki, have three children and reside on Long Island.
