Coaching Staff (11)

Anthony Gilardi

Head Coach

Anthony Gilardi enters his seventh season at the helm of Stony Brook men’s lacrosse. The Long Island native guided the Seawolves to the CAA Championship Game in their first season as a CAA member in 2023. Under Gilardi’s tutelage, 26 student-athletes have garnered all-conference recognition over the past five seasons. He was also pivotal in helping Dylan Pallonetti become the first student-athlete in America East history to win both Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year honors in the same season back in 2021. In 2024, Gilardi was named to the coaching staff for the U.S. Men’s U20 National Team that represented the United States at the world championship in Seogwipo, South Korea. In the summer of 2025, Gilardi earned a gold medal as an assistant coach with the U.S. Men’s U20 National Team at the world championship in Seogwipo, South Korea. Gilardi served as an assistant coach on Shawn Nadelen’s (Towson) staff along with Connor Buczek and Ryan McClay. Stony Brook is coming off a 7-7 season in 2025, looking to bounce back and make its return to the CAA postseason. Last season, Robbie Smith and Kian McCoy were selected to the All-CAA Second Team, while McCoy also joined Brendan Marino and Caleb Yeung on the CAA All-Rookie Team. In 2023, Gilardi’s team finished as the nation’s leader in man-down defense, and five Seawolves were tabbed All-CAA at season’s end. In 2021, a total of six Seawolves earned All-Conference honors. Pallonetti joined teammates Mike McCannell and Michael Sabella as All-Conference First Team selections. Chris Pickel Jr., David Miele-Estrella, and Austin Deskewicz earned All-Conference Second Team honors. In addition, Sabella joined Pallonetti on the All-Rookie team. In his first season, Gilardi guided Stony Brook to a 5-2 record during an abbreviated season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He was officially named head coach on June 20, 2019. Gilardi returned to Long Island after spending eight successful seasons with Towson, including the final six seasons as associate head coach. He helped guide the Tigers to five CAA championships and NCAA Tournament appearances, and a 2017 Final Four berth. In 2019, the team made program history, earning a No. 1 ranking in the national polls for the first time. In his role, Gilardi masterminded Towson’s attack as the offensive coordinator while also being tasked with attracting the nation’s top talent as recruiting coordinator. Off the field, Gilardi played a pivotal role in the team’s academic success, serving as a liaison for the Academic Support Services at Towson. Gilardi previously served as an assistant coach at the United States Naval Academy, Ohio State, and Denison. In his three years with Navy, the Midshipmen earned a Patriot League title and an NCAA Tournament appearance in 2009. At Ohio State, his alma mater, the Buckeyes reached the 2008 NCAA quarterfinals. Gilardi played collegiately at Ohio State from 2000-04. He was a three-year starter, a two-time All-GWLL selection, and a team captain his senior season. Following graduation, he signed a free-agent contract with the Long Island Lizards of Major League Lacrosse and began his coaching career as a volunteer assistant coach with the Buckeyes.

Craig Gibson

Assistant Coach

Gibson also guided the man-up offense which ranked 11th in the country. Under Gibson's tutelage, the Seawolves' first midfield combined for 62 goals and 58 assists, led by all-conference selections, Jeff Tundo and Robbie Campbell. Stony Brook also ranked in the top 10 in shooting percentage (.324) in 2012. Gibson's influence also extended on defense as goalies Sean Brady and Ryan Keneally combined to allow only eight goals per game during conference play. Prior to Stony Brook, Gibson served five seasons under Jim Nagle at Colgate. Under Gibson's watch, the Raiders scored upset wins against No. 9 Army and No. 5 Maryland in 2011. The South Salem, N.Y. native tutored Brandon Corp, one of the most prolific scorers in Colgate history. Colgate won at least 11 games in three of Gibson's five seasons, finishing with a No. 12 ranking in 2009. Along the way, Corp earned Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year honors three times and was named a first-team All-American, Colgate's first in 79 years. Gibson started his coaching career at Western New England College. He mentored Adam Cherry, the 2006 Pilgrim League Player of the Year who led the conference in goals (49) and points (69). He also worked in the Golden Bears' athletic office, working in the compliance department. A four-year starter at Springfield College, Gibson led the Pride to three NCAA Tournaments. JN

Jim Nagle

Assistant Coach

Nagle joined the Seawolves in 2012 after 10 seasons as head coach at Colgate. Stony Brook went 13-5 in 2015, advancing to the America East Championship game for the first time since 2012. Mike Rooney posted one of the best seasons in NCAA history, registering 111 points, and finished as the school's all-time leader in assists and points. Nagle led Stony Brook to seven wins in each of his first two seasons and a total of three berths in the America East Championship. With one of the youngest rosters in Division I in 2013 & 2014, seven of the team's top eight scorers were underclassmen, including five freshmen. For a second straight season, Nagle's squad was one of the nation's youngest as four of the top five goal scorers were sophomores. Sophomore Brody Eastwood led the nation in shooting percentage and the Seawolves were one of the teams in man-up offense and face-off win percentage. Six freshmen played in all 16 games, including Eastwood and Rogers, who each ranked among the top freshmen last season. Eastwood led the Seawolves with 44 goals, which was tied for first among all freshmen in the nation, and Rogers ranked third on the team with 44 points. Charged with taking over a program that graduated the winningest senior class in school history, Nagle guided Stony Brook back to the NCAA Tournament with a convincing win over Albany in the America East Championship game. Despite a 7-10 record, the 2012 America East Coach of the Year led the Seawolves to their third straight regular-season conference crown. Six players earned all-conference honors and Mike Rooney was named America East Rookie of the Year. The sixth head coach in the 29-year history of Stony Brook men's lacrosse, Nagle was 86-64 (.573) in 10 seasons with the Raiders, winning at least 10 games in four of the last six seasons. He is the winningest coach in Raiders history and is a two-time Patriot League Coach of the Year. Nagle mentored four All-Americans during his tenure, including Brandon Corp, Colgate's only first-team All-American and a three-time Patriot League Player of the Year. In 2011, Nagle led Colgate to an 11-5 record, an appearance in the Patriot League championship game and a win over NCAA runner-up Maryland. The team ended the season ranked No. 12 in the USILA Coaches Poll and No. 14 in the Nike/Inside Lacrosse Media Poll, and narrowly missed earning an at-large berth into the NCAA Tournament. In 2009, Nagle overcame a rough start in the regular season to lead his team to a program-record eight consecutive victories and finish 5-1 in the Patriot League, good for second place. The team was ranked as high as No. 13 and boasted the school's first ever Tewaaraton Award finalist in Corp. In 2008, Nagle led Colgate to its only Patriot League championship and a berth in the NCAA Tournament. That season included a second straight victory over Syracuse, which was ranked second at the time and went on to win the national championship. The Raiders finished the season ranked 10th in the USILA Coaches Poll. When Nagle took over Colgate, the Raiders had been 7-19 over the previous two seasons. Nagle led the team to a 7-7 mark in his first season in 2001 and then followed up with an 8-7 overall and a 4-2 conference record to help him earn Patriot League Coach of the Year honors. After two more seasons of .500 or better records, Nagle led Colgate to its best-ever Division I finish in 2006, posting an 11-4 record and 5-2 in conference, good for the school's first-ever regular season title. He was named the Patriot League Coach of the Year once again. He continued to reach new heights by taking Colgate to the Patriot League Championship final for the first time in school history in 2007 before finally breaking through with his milestone 2008 campaign. Nagle's first head-coaching job was at Oneonta State, where he was 65-39 (.625) in seven seasons. In 1999, Nagle led the Red Dragons to a No. 11 ranking and a berth in the NCAA Tournament, earning USILA Division III Coach of the Year honors. In his seven seasons, he was named conference Coach of the Year three times, and in 1998, Oneonta State boasted the nation's best regular season record at 12-1. Nagle got his coaching start as an assistant coach at Springfield College from 1992-94, helping the Pride to an ECAC Championship in 1993 and an NCAA Division II Championship in 1994. Nagle played collegiate lacrosse at Loyola College, where he was part of a Greyhounds squad that advanced to the NCAA Tournament four times, including a spot in the 1990 title game. Nagle earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Business from Loyola in 1992. He also earned his master's degree in Physical Education from Springfield in 1994. Nagle played on Ward Melville's 1988 state championship team, which went 24-0. He was an All-Suffolk County selection. Nagle and his wife, Kelly, have three daughters, Jamie, Ryan and Meghan.
